Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy complications fibroids

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I have 2 cysts on an ovary and 2 fibroids. The doctor has talked to me about a myomectomy option vs. hysterectomy for the fibroid removal. I don't know which way to go on this. I'm concerned about the success rate of a myomectomy and don't want to go through a surgical procedure and then end up having to have a hysterectomy in the long run. Naturally, I also don't want to have a hysterectomy and end up with complications and am really afraid of menopause.
Avatar f tn 7 percent) had serious complications, and 48 (4 percent) were readmitted to a hospital within the year following surgery because of conditions related to hysterectomy. The most common serious complications were related to the incision or urinary tract problems. Avatar f tn Ladies who undergone hysterectomy or similar procedure, and happy with your surgeon, please help me with referrals! I would prefer Cedars Sinai, but any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!
Avatar f tn Waiting on biopsy results to give him a yay or nay. My mom had a hysterectomy and suffered huge complications. I dont know what to do to be honest and could use some insight..Thank you.
Avatar n tn Is Uterine Hysterectomy the only solution to fibroids. Menstral period so heavy, has caused enemia. Ultra sound confirmed fibroids. The largest 3.5 cm. G.P. recomends hysterectomy. My age 46.
Avatar f tn Your lifetime cancer risk is low unless you have the BRCA mutation (which causes ovarian and your issue seems like fibroids). They will probably suggest a hysterectomy. I would definitely keep my ovaries since they are so important to a woman's life time health. I had to have my ovaries remove due to ovarian cancer. I have lost my sex life all together which is tough when you are married. I would not have otherwise had my ovaries removed.
1087834 tn?1256647396 It turns out that I have 2 uterine fibroids, each the size of a tennis ball, and now she wants to give me a hysterectomy. I scheduled it yesterday for Nov. 6. Here is what I am wondering...I have been seeing my ob/gyn for 20 years, I have gone faithfully every 6-12 months to see her for a pelvic exam and pap smear, she is the only ob/gyn that I have ever had, so my question is: why didn't SHE know that I had these tennis ball size fibroids???
Avatar m tn I also would like some advice on what to talk to my doctor about, future MRI or CT scan, certain blood work, or maybe hysterectomy. This is the second scare I have had in the last year with all this menopause. Most recent was a swollen lymph nod in my breast that appeared on my mammogram which after an MRI doctor says nothing showed up so we have moved on, so now this endometrial situation has me concerned something serious maybe going on with my body.
Avatar f tn My first pregnancy went smoothly with no complications. I had an ectopic pregnancy about 4 years ago and a miscarriage earlier this year. When I found out I was pregnant again I was excited, not as excited as my fiance. We'll I'm 9 weeks now and had an ultrasound last week that showed that I have a cyst on my ovary and 2 fibroids on my uterus. My doctor didn't seem too concerned and said I am still considered low risk but I'm scared and freaking out.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Even if you are experiencing early menopause, that isn't really a common pattern. You do bleed heavily in the early stages of preparing for menopause but it is typically for much shorter duration like 2 days instead of your old period which was 5 days. I'd think more along the lines of fibroids or a hormonal issue based on what you've written. And I would not recommend hysterectomy unless your doctor feels it is absolutely necessary.
Avatar f tn Is hysterectomy the best option. My gyno says I have 4 fibroids and 1 ovarian cyst. I have no pain and no problem with the fibroids. The cyst is giving me problems for its sore almost every time. If I do a lot of walking, exercise, physical work etc, i feel pain on the right and I think thats were my ovary is. I also feel pain during my period. The pain goes down my right leg at times.
1740983 tn?1312873366 Hello twinkie756, I don't have enough details to know whether a hysterectomy is your only management option. I rcommend that you have a discussion with your gynecologist specifically on treatment options that do not involve hysterectomy if desired. Some necrosing fibroids within the uterine cavity may be associated with abnormal vaginal discharge. I recommend that you be evaluated for more common causes fo vaginal discharge however such as vaginitis and STD's.
Avatar f tn That is odd.. what was your doctor's reason for suggesting you have a hysterectomy? 39 years of age is quite young to have even a partial hysterectomy done, so there has to be some reason for the suggestion. Do you have bad endometriosis? Some other problems? I would definitely find out exactly the reason for the suggestion and get a second opinion from a reproductive endocrinologist.
Avatar n tn Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid. The only option is a partial hestorectormy to remove my utereus. My ovaries are fine. The only reason I need to go ahead and do something is the fibroids are pushing up against my kidney and causing that to inflame and has caused pain in my lower stomach and my side/back.
953787 tn?1246371213 Uterine fibroids are the single most common indication for hysterectomy. Fibroids can be present and be inapparent. However, they are clinically apparent in up to 25% of women and cause significant morbidity, including prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, and, in rare cases, reproductive dysfunction. Both the economic cost and the effect of fibroids on quality of life are substantial. Fibroids are not cancerous.
Avatar f tn i have just been diagnosed after years of misdiagnosis with, sub septate uterus, anterverted uterus, endometriosis ,adenmoysis, PCOS i am in severe pain im about to start taking Provera to completly stop my period and i was told today that hysterectomy is my only solution, im 28 i have only been married 12 months and i have little or no qualtity of life due to sever pain and other complications
1087834 tn?1256647396 My doc also order an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound which showed 2 6-7cm(tennis ball sized)uterine fibroids and normal ovaries.Doc asked ME if I knew I had fibroids when she has been my gynecologist for 20 yrs so I would think SHE would be the one to tell me.Anyway, now I have scheduled surgery in 10 days for a hysterectomy per her advice and I am worried.I have been researching online and it seems that women w/ovarian cancer and other severe conditions have CA-125 levels over 100...
1149921 tn?1297559913 Has your Dr confirmed that you have fibroids? It's true that you are having some of the possible symptoms. I'm glad to hear your getting the ultra sound. If you do have fibroids the treatment depends on how big they are. I wish I could be of more help to you but I've never had fibroids. You might want to pop over to the hysterectomy forum and look up our CL Cherie. You can send her a personal message. Just look for her name, she also has a purple star by her name. Take care.
1149921 tn?1297559913 Long story short I have only experienced minor complications. ie. constipation, and frequent unrination. My cycles are approximately 3 days without pain. I feel great. I am hoping to avoid having a hysterectomy all together if possible. Let me know what the my chances are.
Avatar f tn m nearly 47 and fertility is not an issue, but the surgical option still strikes me as a bit drastic for a number of reasons, among them sudden menopause, possible complications from the surgery, and the long recovery time (I also have fibroids and LAVH may not be possible if my uterus is too large). There is, however, one thing that makes me willing to seriously consider surgery, and that is the increased risk of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis.
10123610 tn?1408029225 Yesterday my gynecologist told me about the 2 I have now. I also have some fibroids in the muscle tissue. I will be scheduled to have the cysts removed along with having endometrial ablation within the week. I am 46 and have been having issues with HEAVY menstrual cycles and bleeding between cycles. I am wondering if I should just opt for the hysterectomy instead. Since I do not know much about ablation I have been trying to find out which option would be better.
Avatar f tn I have dealt with large fibroids for the past 5 years. Generally my fibroids haven't caused pain or bleeding. But now I have worse bloating than i did before and I am very uncomfortable. My uterus is as large as a 4 or 5 month pregnancy and I cannot fit in any of my clothes anymore. I can't walk on my feet like I used to, since I am carrying this extra load. I almost feel like I have to shop in the maternity section to cover this buldging belly.
Avatar n tn I suffer painful fibroids and at the moment receiving Zolodex injections which are only licencened for up to 6mths. I have been offered the option of a transvaginal hysterectomy but I don't know what to do.Apparently, fibroids shrink during the menopause and as I am 49 next birthday, should I put myself through this op. Many thanks.
Avatar f tn However, most of the women in my family have had cervical cancer, and while that does put them at higher risk for vaginal cancer none of them have had a single abnormal result after getting their hysterectomy. So keep in mind that a hysterectomy can be very very effective. That being said, I have never heard of a biopsy making a tumor (cancerous or non) grow worse than it would otherwise.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't think there's any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar n tn Lindyy, I have many friends who have had a hysterectomy and wanted to throw a party afterwards! They lived with painful fibroids for many years, and became so much happier after the hysterectomy. It's not an uncommon result when fibroids cannot be controlled. I would listen to your GYN, or consult another if that makes you feel better. But, is sounds like you may be heading that direction.
Avatar n tn You don’t have to have a hysterectomy to remove fibroids you can have a myomectomy which also preserves your uterus if you wish to have children in the future.
Avatar f tn I'm 46 and I have 4 fibroids, 3 are embedded in the walls of my uterus and one is outside my uterus. My doctor told me I need a hysterectomy. I have some pain and bloating, my periods are the same, no increased bleeding with the fibroids. I'm scared to have a hysterectomy, is there any other way to get rid of them? Any advice please?
