Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and thyroid

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn ve been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer (papillary) at 38. Could there be a connection between the Hysterectomy and Thyroid Cancer? No major problems before hysterectomy.
1183799 tn?1264186905 check for my poll and I think if would help you to atleast rule out hypothyroidism. I have hypor thyroid..and have had a hysterectomy...before I was diagnosed with thyroid disorder,,my drain in tub would get clogged because of hair loss and I had acne,,Is your skin in general dry..vaginal dryness, loss of libido constipation..if yes check and find a good endocrinologist...if he rules out hypo thyroid or Hashimotos tthen see your gyno and have your female hormones checked..

Avatar f tn Hi . I had a total hysterectomy 5 weeks ago,I'm 42 years old,I was recovering really well until these past couple of weeks and I haven't been sleeping,Its really getting me down now and I'm worried about when it's tme to go back to work,I wasn't told to go back to hospital for a follow up app either, any advice would be gratefully received.
Avatar n tn Can this affect the TSH and or the thyroid-certainly he knew this when he ordered the test as he prescribes the med, I was just wondering before I call to ask for the FT3 and FT4 tests if this could be skewing the results at all.
Avatar f tn i am now beginning to wonder if the hot flashes are related to the thyroid and not menopause. Would taking a brand name rather than a generic drug help? I do not take any other drugs and don't have any other medical issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have had a partial hysterectomy 2 and half years ago. My OB says that the ovary he left will produce enough hormone and I will be fine. So along with my left side of my thyroid being sore ( I dont have the right side no more due to a nodule) I feel like I swallowed a bouncy ball, I have my breast that is sore. along with my hair really falling out...I am a mess. Just a plain old mess...
Avatar n tn I was curious, in general, has anyone noticed menopausal symptoms being more severe and earlier onset due to taking synthroid and having a hysterectomy? I have 3 sisters and we are all close in age... 53, 52, 51 and 50. I am the only one who appears to have started meno and I have had very strong symptoms. My sisters say none of them have really started yet.
Avatar f tn I just concerned about breast cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer and I honestly want and Complete Hysterectomy. I had a tubal ligation in 2006 and even my 4th GYN was a little concerned about me going through menopause a little early. I forgot to mentioned I had a total thyroidectomy this year 8/2010 and my body and health has not been right since the surgery.
Avatar n tn I had a radical hysterectomy done 9 years ago. Since that time I have gained weight that I cannot lose, my cholesteral level has risen to a danger zone and now take medication also B12 injections. I suffer from fatigue, memory loss, cold sensitivety and other problems. I recently had a FSH test done and was told the levels indicate I am still producing estrogen.
Avatar f tn I would monitor and keep monitoring the thyroid, too. The thyroid can be affected or can affect the female organs. It also plays a huge role in our moods.
Avatar f tn If you had a complete hysterectomy (both ovaries removed), menopause was imminent at the time of your hysterectomy and you are now post-menopausal. As we get older, we need less of the estrogen and progesterone. Have you had a thyroid ultrasound to determine if you have swelling/inflammation or nodules on your thyroid? While both, your FT3 and FT4 are "in range", they could stand to be a bit higher in the ranges.
1828809 tn?1317784613 I had a TT due to an enlarged thyroid. It was determined to be just a goiter and nothing serouise. If anyone has heard of it growth this fast please comment.
Avatar n tn When I bring up to my doctor she states that it has nothing to do with my hysterectomy, I have been tested for thyroid and it is at normal levels. Does anyone have any ideas, at this point I do not know what else to do.
Avatar m tn Has anyone else had trouble with their thyroid after hysterectomy? I am 35 and have been in menopause for a year now and can not seem to get leveled out. I thought the hysterectomy was going to make everything better. Just seems to have went from dealing with endometriosis and PCS to all these hormone issues. Should I go back on the Prometrium and testosterone cream? At the time of my last lab work, my estrogen level dropped from 70 to 30. I'm just confused.
Avatar f tn My doctor then had me do an uptake and scan and said it came back normal and no longer thought my thyroid was an issue. Now my doctor thinks I am estrogen dominant but my thyroid levels are still out of whack. does any of this makes sense. is it related to my partial hysterectomy ? why if my levels are hyper thyroid can I not lose weight ?!? sorry this is kind of thyroid/hormone but I didn't find any other forums to Post in.
Avatar n tn I deeply regret my hysterectomy...so be 99% sure you really want this...and research, research and research some more...good luck!
Avatar f tn Weight gain is common after hysterectomy. Of course, your thyroid could also be a culprit. And your symptoms of hair loss, foggy head, inattentiveness, and memory loss could be signs that your ovary is "sputtering out" as a result of the hysterectomy. Post-hysterectomy ovarian failure happens about 40% of the time (sounds like your OB may not know this or may not want to admit it).
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar f tn You have to have adequate thyroid hormone levels, from your thyroid gland and/or from thyroid med. Although weight gain can be related to a number of things, certainly one is low metabolism due to low thyroid levels. If you will post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on your lab report, we can try to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment. Also, what thyroid med are you taking and what dosage? What symptoms do you have other than weight gain?
Avatar f tn In 2006 I had a hysterectomy and my TSH was 0.8. I started on Lexapro a few months later. In 2007, while on Lexapro, my TSH was 1.76. In June 2008, my TSH was 2.56 and my doctor told me that if the level reaches 3.0, he would like to start me on therapy. Not only have I had a hysterectomy, been taking Lexapro, and Spirnolactone (for acne), I have gained 13 pounds. I am still 5'9 weighing 135, but I have never gained weight.
1089270 tn?1257174234 You might also talk to your doctor about checking for other medical issues that cause weight gain, such as thyroid issues, insulin resistance, PCOS, etc. I have thyroid issues and when my thyroid quit working is why I gained weight, not because of my hysterectomy. Whatever the cause, we hope you will stay tuned in to our community and let us know your progress.
Avatar f tn Personally, I like to see results for TSH, free T3 and free T4, and (at least initially) TPO antibodies to assess health of my thyroid or efficacy of thyroid meds. As far as your statement that estrogen "apparently cancels out a thyroid test and makes thyroid look normal", that does not line up with my understanding.
Avatar f tn are you taking thyroid replacement? your t4 is high and your tsh is low, and that means you are a little hyperthyroid currently. maybe you are on too much thyroid replacement meds (ie. synthroid, levothyroxine)? i was taking synthroid when i was hypo. i had to slowly taper from 112 to 88 to 50 to 25 when my tsh became low.
Avatar n tn Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
Avatar n tn I was very heavy growing up and so I was a bit devastated by this uncontrollable weight gain, but I was eventually able to get a handle on things. I also had to have my thyroid evaluated and have been helped with thyroid meds over the past four years. I knew I probably could not answer your question directly, but wanted to give you some things to think about. There are some very good resources. I think the author's name who speaks to midlife weight gain is Deb Waterhouse???
