Hysterectomy and the bladder

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and the bladder

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn t see your post. Since the uterus helps to keep the bladder and bowel anchored, hysterectomy can lead to prolapse of bladder and bowel. Does she really have a prolapse or maybe some other cause for frequent urination? As women age, frequent urination seems to be fairly common even without prolapse. If her bladder is truly prolapsed, a pessary can be used to suspend it (along with the uterus). There are some that don't have to be changed very often.
Avatar n tn I am 52 yrs and had 2 myomectomies so far. But the fibrods are back and huge. I feel the pressure of it and my belly protrudes so I look very pregnant. I have been advised not to have a hsterectomy as I may have adhesion and that can cause compilcations in surgery eg. perforation of my bladder resulting in me having a urine bag. I have also developed a fear of anasthetic. To put it sismply the doctorsaid I may go in with a condition that is not a medical problem and come out with one.
Avatar f tn The urogynecologist said there is no fistula, but rather her bladder has become over active because of the hysterectomy and the sling procedure. She also said that it is a temporary condition, but put her on Detrol. Her condition had not improved. In fact, it seems to be worse. Has anyone else developed an over active bladder after a hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn He says he will use the mesh sling to hold up the bladder. I ask about the law suits with bladder meshes. He said this kind is different. Worried about having surgery now. I need to have urinary catheter, was wondering how long it needs to stay in?

Avatar f tn Could you say a bit more about the hormone pills? What are you taking and at what dose? Also, regarding the bladder pain... when did that start approximately and do you feel pressure and pain? Any other bladder issues? I can check back later... others may respond here as well, too, of course. But this info would be helpful before I attempt a suggestion.
Avatar f tn My question, has anyone had the bladder repair surgery that uses stitches to anchor the bladder? He will perform the hysterectomy through the vagina and will perform the bladder tie up by making two holes in lower pelvic area and then stitch bladder up. What is the success rate for this type of surgery?
Avatar m tn so my friend's mother has a benign tumor in the uterus and she's confused between choosing to completely remove the uterus or just the tumor and i don't know what is the type of the tumor or how much it has invaded ..can you help?
Avatar f tn ll answer the book ?? on a PM to you; it falls into the category of self-promo and we try to keep the MedHelp site as clean as possible (others can comment, I should not). Is there a urologist there? If so you can call that office to see if they take care of POP concerns, some do, some don't.
1380711 tn?1281410086 She had another surgery to put mesh in place to hold the bladder. Both the hysterectomy and this surgery were where the surgeons went in through her vagina. Since then, her bladder has fallen again, and then mesh part is coming through her vaginal wall. To make matters worse, her intestines are also falling and are now somewhat hanging out of her body. Her doctors have no answers for her. She is uncomfortable and scared to have another surgery because it could make things even worse.
Avatar f tn I have been wondering that myself I had a uterus up lift a couple of years after I had my son about 10 years ago I started to get really bad periods and was really sick all the time about five years ago I went to see an obgyn and he told me I needed to get a hysterectomy they tried to do it laparoscopic but every time they turn me upside down I would die after twice the cut me open and he said that my inside was really messed up and if I had waited to much longer I would been dead but now this
1710955 tn?1309446473 Laura, what ended up happening? I am 2.5 weeks post op from hysterectomy and having the same, god-aweful pains and my intuition told me it's my gall bladder...i have had issues with it in the past. But, like you, this came about suddenly here. When I googled "gall bladder angry after hysterectomy", your post and the other gal's came up. How are you?
Avatar f tn However during surgery both my ureters were covered in scar tissue and attached to my bowel and one to the ovary. I also had laser residue on my bladder flap and so I am not sure what it was or if it was just adhesions but I no longer have those symptoms. It is also possible that you have IC (interstitial cystitis) which go hand in hand with Endo and I would think Adeno as well. So hearing you speak I would think its one or the other, scar tissue causing an obstruction or IC.
Avatar f tn And removing the uterus will cause other problems with the bladder and bowel because the uterus is a placeholder and separator for the bladder and bowel. Once it is removed those organs drop and no longer have the uterus to separate them which can cause pelvic organ prolapse and fistulas. The vagina can also collapse / prolapse without its connection to the uterus. I'm 10 years post-hysterectomy and my vagina has been like a crumpled up shirt sleeve for some time now...very disgusting.
Avatar n tn The only way I would advocate that is if you have already had all the children that you want. But otherwise, no way. I've had endo for years. It's unpleasant certainly, and at times, quite painful. But a hysterectomy is pretty drastic. But if you are sure you're done having children, then I guess it's worth considering.
Avatar f tn I`m 56 years old and have had a partial hysterectomy about 15 years ago, then had a vaginal prolapse, had 2 surgeries to correct that, then had 2 bladder repairs, lately I have been having lots of cramping and aching in the pelvic area and all down my legs, my doctors nurse after my pap said it could be from my bladder dropping again, has anyone else had the same experience and what was the cause for your cramping.
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar n tn I am curious as to what you mean about tissues thinning and affecting the bladder and urethra? the urinary bladder and urethra are not part of the reproductive system, the uterus of enlarged may sometimes put pressure on the bladder, but it does not cause thinning of the bladder tissues.
Avatar n tn I am 48 yr old woman who had total hysterectomy 7 yrs ago and went to er with pain pelvis and back and they did catscan and found bladder diverticula and free fluid next to bladder and 18 mm cyst in pelvis that they said was in my overy which I told them I had everything out 7 yrs ago and they also found a granduloma in my lung and I am a non smoker.Should I be worried that it is cancer since there is something in all three places.
167426 tn?1254086235 I read about the 4 levels and since level one was mentioned could be helped with HRT, which she has avoided, can the bios do the same thing, strengthen the ligamnets and muscles that hold the bladder in place? She first some pain in the low pelvis, then a feeling she was "sitting" on something. No problems urinating, no UTI. Last scans were clear, vag and abd, pelvic hurt more than normal, She is waiting for a Cysto, they put her on macrobid {sp} today.
Avatar m tn I am 47 years old and am scheduled to have a hysterectomy this Wednesday and I am very confused on what to do. I have fibroids in my uterus, I just had a biopsy on my cervix 2 weeks ago due to abnormal cells (it was OK) and I have a complex cyst on my ovary. I have had a crampy pain on that side for 4 months. I am prone to ovarian cysts as they come and go for me though not always complex like the one I currently have.
Avatar f tn i have two doctors and one says no and the other says to see how I feel after i have recovered. I have accepted the fact that it willbe awhile if at all before I can run. The problem is that running is a stress reliever for me. The initial prolapse was caused by giving birth to three good sized babies. One doctor says that the benefits I get from running, ( weight control, low blood pressure and colesteral) are just as important.
Avatar n tn Totaling I have had 25 surgeries and since the hysterectomy I had the most painful bladder pain. I was later diagnosed with IC, and prescriber 100 mg of amitripteline. It only works for a very short time and then the pain is back full force.I have had the bladder distention and many trips to the urologist. Can HPV cause IC and if so, how? I always wondered if the two were related- but now i am hearing of a new procedure- Sacrum nerve stimulator.
Avatar f tn I guess yesterday was just a bad day especially with not feeling like someone was taking the pain aspect of me seriously and just assuming it was my bladder. Thanks for the quick response....I will keep looking.
Avatar f tn i had severe diverticulitis last November, with 7 day hospital stay. Things haven't felt right since. Infection gone but after colonoscopy last week, Gi doc says he couldn't get past recto sigmoid junction, so virtual colonoscopy next week. All of my other colonoscopies have been fine . Biopsies done . All normal. I have bladder discomfort and back pain. I'm assuming I now have adhesions. Have had hysterectomy in 2007 and further prolapse surgery in 2015.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you're dealing with these after effects of hysterectomy. Are you saying the pain stops when you take bladder spasm pills? Have you seen a doctor and were any tests done to determine that it's your bladder? Do you know the cause of the bleeding? Could it be from vaginal atrophy?
Avatar f tn I only had a hysterectomy not a full hysterectomy. The doctor removed all the endo on my ovaries and left them. After the surgery I asked him if that was it or if I would get them back and he said that I could get the endo back in 5 years because the ovaries is what produces them. He also had to tack up my bladder which I ended up with a major bladder infection that took months to go away. My bladder fell again about two months after the surgery. I guess my questions for you to is.
Avatar n tn Hi Sheila, I know how you feel. I had the same thing done and I had to cath for three months! I got it to the shower and the warm water helped me get the sensation back I started to go. Good luck and may you feel better soon.
