Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and recovery

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Remar is right if you absolutley must climb stairs think it through what you need and minimise trips up and down,...to the bare minimum. Hold the hand rail and do not carry objects, you dont need a fall. i would advise you to NOT climb stairs while home alone.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a laporotomy recently (last week) and wondered if anyone had any useful info re recovery? I am off work for 4 weeks and have been told not to lift anything too heavy and not drive or exercise for 4-6 weeks but it all seems a bit vague. What does 'too heavy' mean? Can I lift a saucepan of water? A container of milk? Also, I love doing exercise and want to get back into it asap. I know I can't do anything for 4-6 weeks, but after that what can I do?
Avatar f tn or growth on my ovaries, and I am going to go ahead and have a full hysterectomy. I have to travel out of state to get this done because of my high risk for cancer. Does anyone know how long after surgery before I will be able to travel home on a plane?
Avatar n tn Hi, I had ovarian AND uterine cancer, at the same time. Boy, I wish I'd had a hysterectomy younger! If it were me, I'd have my uterus removed in a jiffy. Recovery really isn't bad at all.
Avatar f tn m scared to have the hysterectomy because the recovery process seems so long and painful and one of my biggest fears is pain. Any and all positive stories and tips will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had prolapsed uterus for 7 years in different degrees ,and had terrible excruciating at times back pain....4 weeks ago I had hysterectomy and vaginal, bladder and rectal repairs..........I think the back pain is gone......I wont be certain until I am fully recovered, because you have a bit of back pain during recovery...but it is a different pain, and I think the old back pain was due to this prolapse.........
Avatar f tn I firstly hope this will resolve the issue but am a little scared in case it dosent and going through surgery for nothing. What does this operation involve and also what is the recovery time. My GP has been fantastic but we both think enough is enough. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. Didn't think much about til last year, got referred to urologist.he did testing and said I needed a sling for stress I continuance. I wasn't interested since I have had 5 addominal surgeries. Avatar f tn In 2004, she got detected of Ovarian cyst again and got her hysterectomy done. now after almost 12yrs of her operation, she is having excessive fluid coming out of her vaniga and she is becoming very weak. Can you please suggest, what may be the cause and also the way of recovery?
Avatar m tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy 8 years ago was great for me and I had a quick recovery. Surgeries change throughout the years. Laparoscopic surgery is great as well as the healing time is much quicker. Myself, I would go laparoscopic as it is a much faster recovery as I stated before. But I would definite talk to you gyn first. Good luck.
Avatar f tn If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.
Avatar f tn If you ask them only to take the cyst it is a quick recovery. If they do a hysterectomy that is major surgery. It can take weeks. Just a few in the hospital. It is best to keep at least one ovary. For your over all health you need at least one ovary. Just having the cyst out would be ideal.
Avatar m tn Ok so in 2012 I had a hysterectomy but they left my ovaries and tubes in tact. I am nervous because Friday I go in it has my tubes and ovaries removed as well as thinning of scar tissue from my hysterectomy. What do I need to expect as well as recovery since I have 3 kids under the age of 6. Also any information on different hormone replacement therapies would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?
Avatar f tn m not in the same boat but my mother in law just had a full hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. She stayed in the hospital only one night and was up and walking about the next day. I think you can pretty much expect your recovery time will be similar to that of a regular C-section. The C-section is the more major of the two procedures. However, the fact that you're asking on this forum troubles me.
Avatar n tn I am 52 yrs and had 2 myomectomies so far. But the fibrods are back and huge. I feel the pressure of it and my belly protrudes so I look very pregnant. I have been advised not to have a hsterectomy as I may have adhesion and that can cause compilcations in surgery eg. perforation of my bladder resulting in me having a urine bag. I have also developed a fear of anasthetic. To put it sismply the doctorsaid I may go in with a condition that is not a medical problem and come out with one.
1053613 tn?1255987994 Im having the robotics hysterectomy on Dec. 30 and was wondering how the recovery has been for someone who has that type of surgery.
Avatar f tn They told me that the steroids they give you to prevent chemo side effects would make me gain weight -- and I did gain weight. I wish I had exercised to turn that fat into muscle. Please talk with your doctor about your anemia concerns, and please don't take any "potent remedies" without your oncologist's permission. Congratulations on completing the six rounds. I wish you good luck and good health for the future.
Avatar n tn It does sound like it would be the best solution. I can see what the doctor means. If they leave the ovaries, at least you wouldn't experience surgical menopause, which can be a bit brutal. But you would say goodbye to your womb. How do you feel about that? It might be a good idea, for the sake of your general health. Fibroids naturally shrink after menopause, and often cause no more trouble, but with the kidney involvement, I would say it's best to have the surgery.
Avatar f tn I just had a full hysterectomy and I did not have any issues healing or any more pain then what I expected. I was only out a week from work. FM did make any difference to me in the pain I felt or in how I healed.
955060 tn?1251260239 Hi. I'm 26, have three kids and on August 6th. I'll be having a total hysterectomy. I've been dealing with severe endometriosis since I was 16 (shortly after the birth of our first daughter). it has spread and gotten so bad that I have to take prescription pain pills for the pain. I sometimes have to skip doing things with my kids (ages 10 years, 2 years and 2 months) because it hurts so bad.
Avatar n tn Hi taxasgurl, Personally, one week is not enough time. I'm sure your doctor told you 4 to 6 weeks and they'd give you more if needed. You have sutures and need to heal on the inside and out. Making one wrong twist or turn could complicate your recovery. You don't mention what you do for a living but at one week, just walking to the bathroom can tire you out. I've had a total hysto 6 weeks ago and still get a little tired and am still sore.
