Hysterectomy and radiation

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and radiation

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn Hi All, This may be an odd question, but I am looking for advice or if anyone has gone through this. My wife had a radical hysterectomy in March 2012 for cervical cancer. They left bothnovaries. After the healing process, they advised her she needed approximately six weeks of daily radiation treatments, and one internal a week. This, of course, killed the ovaries and sent her into menopause. The Doctor's did not put her on any hormone replacements during or after. She still is not.
675375 tn?1226399266 An average person in US receives an effective dose of about 3 mSv per year from naturally occurring radioactive materials and cosmic radiation from outer space. This is known as background radiation and it varies from region to region also. (http://www.radiologyinfo.org). The radiation exposure from one chest x-ray can be equivalent to the amount of background radiation exposure in 10 days.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately in November 2006 that ovary turned malignant as well and I had to have it removed and due to the fact that it was my second bout of cancer, and they still to this day cannot determine whether it was a new spontaneous cancer or a recurrance (I think this is because of the previous good pathology, and the fact that there was squamous cell on the outside capsule of the ovary) I had chemotherapy and radiation treatment with it completing in July 2007. I am currently in remission.
187666 tn?1331173345 Another woman (extended family) was given the diagnosis today. At least part of it: the abdomen looked clear at surgery time, they found some cancer in the ovaries but still testing the tumor in the uterus. The news was if it was ovarian only, she'll have chemo. If it involved the uterus, she would have radiation and chemo. I don't recall anyone here mentioning radiation treatment for cancer in that area. Anyone know about this? Yes, she had a full hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn After having a vaginal hysterectomy, my Mom (mid 60's) went back to her obgyn for her hysterectomy follow up and was told she had Stage 2 cancer. Here is exactly what the Dr. said: "invasive adenocarcinoma. Invasion into outer half of muscle of uterus. No extension to outside of uterus. Stage 2". He wrote this down for my mom. How does this all sound to you?

Avatar n tn He told us that he had spoke with the gyn oncologist he is sending mom to next week and sent him slides etc and the gyn oncologist had told him the treatment would be radiation only. I'm not sure how he could no that. Is the prognosis usually good fis stage and type of cancer? Thank you so much for taking our question.
Avatar n tn These were found thru an ultrasound and then again with an MRI. For pre-op I had chest xrays and a cat scan which shows a hemangioma on the liver. They want to repeat the cat scan. Is the repeat cat scan necessary?? I am afraid that this may be way too much radiation. I am athletic & in fantastic health outside of the endometriosis.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had stage 2B cervical cancer. I went through external/internal radiation and chemo. I am not familiar with cyberknife surgery. Did the Dr.'s say if chemo & radiation is an option? Surgery was not offered to me as treatment. I went through my treatment fine. I'm glad you are there for your sister. How is she doing? I would be happy to answer any questions you both may have or listen whenever you need to talk. Please let me know if I can help in anyway.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry for your troubles. How thick is your lining? Was a biopsy done at the time of the D&C and again recently to see if you have hyperplasia? And if so, is it with or without atypia? I know tamoxifen increases risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer but aromisin does not, correct? Is it possible your ovaries were only temporarily affected by the chemo and radiation and have since "recovered" somewhat explaining the spotting?
Avatar f tn s undergo treatments like radiation and/ or chemotherapy that is targeted around the abdominal or groin area, the inguinal lymph nodes can be adversely affected. The affected lymph nodes leak... and, that leakage can then migrate down to legs and feet... thereby, causing excessive and painful bloating of the lower extremities, i.e. legs and feet. This condition is called Lymphedema and, it's unfortunately one of those negative after-effects of Cancer treatments.
Avatar m tn I wrote you few times earlier and got your valuable suggestions and advises. I need you your help again. just to remind you the history of my mom's OVCA. First detection March 2006. CA 125= 48..Total hysterectomy foloowed by cisplatin + Taxol. CA 125 remained 11-12. 2nd Detection January 2008 (After 21 months) Isolated recurrence on Omentum. CA 125 =62.5 Treatment: Infracolic Omentectomy done, 4 cycles doxrubicin +Cyclophophomide and 2 cycles of 5FU.
Avatar f tn I had a complete hysterectomy 5 weeks later, then a month of daily radiation, plus a radiation boost, then 6 rounds of chemo with doxyrubicin, cisplatin and paclitaxol. I was okay while we were actively fighting, but once we got to "wait and see", I fell apart emotionally. Can I relax now, or is it more likely to come back with time?
Avatar f tn Could adhesions cause temporary impingement on the bowel causing severe pain and constipation that spontaneously goes away in 1-2 days? Previous surgeries include hysterectomy and abdominal radiation for uterine cancer 40+ years ago, gallbladder surgery 30+ years ago and colon resection for cancer 10 years ago.
Avatar f tn Hotflashes (of on) since 08 Off / on mild moderate joint pain and stiffness in 38 of 40 joints with idiopathic pheriperal neuropathy UE LE 05 present with 2 point differential I have found no articles mentioning differentating side effects radiation therapy with Sjogrens and fibromyalgia Recent increase fatigue (radiation tx?) with increase sporadic low back siatic pain, muscle pain and joint stiffness UE LE (flare of Sjogrens and Fibromyalgia?
Avatar f tn My mom had vulvarian(sp?) cancer. They did a complete hysterectomy, removed her bowel, and did intense internal radiation (it was a new type at the time). It's been 2 years and everytime she has a check up i have a panic attack waiting for her to get home, i never hold out and usually call her cell. Go to your Dr, it will be the only way to satisfy your worries and most Dr's are very understanding when you have been through what you have, that you do worry about every little thing.
Avatar f tn Urologist then sent me to Gyn and she confirmed and said I needed a hysterectomy . She and urologist did hysterectomy , leaving cervix to help support bladder , cystocele (sling) and stitches in pelvic for vaginal prolapse . Discovered during surgery a pre cancerous polyp in upper inside wall of uterus and sent the remains of my hysterectomy to the lab because tubes and ovaries looked suspicious . Pathology report came back as high grade serous carcinoma .
Avatar m tn breast cancer in Nov 2010, under went a double mastectomy and total hysterectomy in March after trying to shrink the tumor on Tamoxifin. I have had problems with my prolactin since 1990 (discovered when I was trying to have my 3rd child), after parlodel did not work because of the way it needed to be taken for me to handle it, we decided to not worry about the irregular periods and go on.
Avatar f tn The standard treatment for ADH after surgical removal is Radiation and possibly also Hormone Therapy such as Tamoxifen or one of the other drugs with similar action. You need to discuss this with your Oncologist to determine the pros and cons as they apply to your specific condition. It is however the norm as treatment for ADH. Regards ....
Avatar f tn I took radiation to destroy my thyroid gland 11 yrs ago. With that radiation it made my ovaries poop out and as well as my adrenals. Now after yrs of changing thyroid meds, supplements and recently having a miscarriage, the doctors has discovered that my ovaries with constant hormonal changes are upsetting my thyroid, adrenal, supplemental levels. My body can not tolerate hormone creams or most birth control. I feel like a complete yoyo.
Avatar f tn Have an appt in 2 days with my genecologist. I had breast caner in 2005 and a lumpectomy and radiation. Have been taking aromasin for the past 2 years and other meds before that (about 5 years all together now). There is an odor as well, but no excessive bleeding. Would like to know what this could possible be? After 5 years, you don't expect anything like this.
Avatar f tn I had colpo and Dr stars he saw nothing suspicious and that those cells shouldn't even be there since those are in the uterus and I had hysterectomy. Going to have repeated in 6 months. So I get to wait some more.
Avatar n tn Im having a brown discharge the past few days with no pain, I have not had intercourse in about 1 week. This also happened 1 year ago and an exam and pap smear were all normal. Could I be having menopause this early? Can lack of hormones make one sort of bleed? The only symptom of menopause I have is night sweats. Ive been on antidepressants for the past 15 years so the tired, depressed, symptoms arent new.
Avatar n tn 2010, i had a total hysterectomy. my dr. said that i do not need chemo or radiation even tho my ca125 is 59.1 and before the surgery it was 952..why is that?
Avatar f tn Symptoms started 2 months after a vaginal hysterectomy (5 months ago) and I am suspicious as to the timing. Anyhow, my GI doc. just told me "Take 1000 mg Canasa suppositiories forever. See you next year." I do not accept that. Going for a second opinion next week! Canasa is making me worse and I stopped it for a week now. I was diagnosed Feb. 13/08. As a woman, how do you feel your symptoms?
