Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and periods

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn ll want you to try a ton of different birth control pills and meds, and estrogen-stopping meds before you get the hysterectomy, because the hysterectomy is permanent, and even at 39, they don't think we can make our own decisions regarding having children or reproductive health. Get the cysts removed if they don't clear up with your next period, or if they are masses, but remember that the more surgeries you have, the more scar tissue you'll get. (Totally a double-edged sword here.
Avatar n tn She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
Avatar f tn I saw my obgyn today and was told in order to relieve my menstrual cramping the next step would be a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had an oblation 2 years ago and it wasn't helping anymore. I was wondering if i will still get my period, he said he would be leaving my ovaries in.
Avatar n tn But you should get it out before it grows any bigger, and it will definatley grow..thus increasing odds of hysterectomy. Drs must tell you worst case senerio...for example when I had a d/c they told me my bladder may be lacerated...happens almost never. I have heard of grapefruit size polyps..I can understand your concerns. I would be worried too, I am glad you came here for advice. If I was you I would go for the removal vs hysterectomy..I had one of those, I am very much fine now..
Avatar f tn They wont do a hysterectomy on you. Youre too young. And no, once you get a hysterectomy, you dont have any more periods. They take everything out (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes) for a complete hysterectomy making it impossible for you to have children. Your doctor can give you medication for nausea (metoclopramide works wonders) and may do a D&C. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn I have had fairly regular periods as long as i can remember. I 47 and in November of 2008 I began bleeding and thought it was just time for my period until it continued into Dec. (it began around Thanksgiving) It completely stopped on Christmas eve day. I had nothing in January not even a period until the end of Feb. or first part of March It started again and has continued since. I had a pap today and the Dr. thought she could feel fibroids. She scheduled me for an ultra sound.
Avatar f tn So now my doctor Says we can do a partial hysterectomy, removing the cervix and uterus and the tubes but leaving the ovaries. I have no history of any cancer is in my family. Says we can do a partial hysterectomy, removing the cervix and uterus and the tubes but leaving the ovaries. I have no history of any cancer is in my family. My doctor did not say anything about an organ prolapse for any long-term potential risks.
Avatar n tn It started out as occasional spotting between periods and has progressed to feeling bloated, more frequent bleeding between periods, bleeding after intercourse every time, and cramping after intercourse. My periods are heavy and irregular - one month it will be 12 days in length, the next 2 days in length. I've had 3 OB/GYN's who have suggested a partial hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries). They suspect fibroids as the cause because of an ultrasound I had.
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy at age 49 and all hell broke loose although I was still having regular periods.

1043568 tn?1253450188 After I started taking Tamoxifen (age 52) my periods stopped for about 6 months and then started again about once every 3 or 4 months with the last one being quite heavy. I am 54 years old and I was still pretty regular before the Tamoxifen. My gynecologist is recommending that I get a radical (abdominal) hysterectomy since I am still having periods. I had a D&C last year and had a benign polyp removed. Just had a trans-vaginal ultrasound 2 weeks ago and everything was fine.
Avatar f tn i have had a partial hysterectomy just over a year ago they left ovaries and cervix behind as i has been steralised year prior to hysterectomy to my horror after having mini periods as regular as clock work my doc decovered with an ultra sound scan that i have so womb left on and near my cervix and that my ovaries aint where they should be so he put me on the mini pill for the bleeding just need sum help and to find out if this has happened to anyone else
Avatar f tn I don't know if you realize that hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis. Since endo implants can be found throughout the pelvis, you may very well be left with pain or get only temporary relief after your organs are removed. And then you are left with the pain as well as the adverse effects of hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I want to know if this is normal. The hysterectomy was done because i had fibroids and heavy periods.
Avatar f tn I had prolapsed uterus for 7 years in different degrees ,and had terrible excruciating at times back pain....4 weeks ago I had hysterectomy and vaginal, bladder and rectal repairs..........I think the back pain is gone......I wont be certain until I am fully recovered, because you have a bit of back pain during recovery...but it is a different pain, and I think the old back pain was due to this prolapse.........
Avatar n tn I started to panic as she was throwing around words like incurable and hysterectomy... all of this immediately prior to surgery. I had the surgery in mid-July and have not been the same since. I have a constant dull pain in the middle of my pelvic area, weird urinary issues, pressure, some spotting, brown discharge, what feels like pressure on my tailbone.
Avatar f tn No I haven't had a hysterectomy yet .
Avatar n tn Also my periods were extremly painful to the point of taking heavey duty medication and being off work for 2 days every month. I was ver anemica too, I was 95 and the norm is around 120. On my doctors advice I was taking 900mg of iron a day. Ask your doctor to check your iron and he should have you on a supplement if your anemica.
Avatar n tn 28 and the pcp considered that normal so he did no othe testing. I also take estrogen for that total hysterectomy that I had due to the heavy periods. Can this affect the TSH and or the thyroid-certainly he knew this when he ordered the test as he prescribes the med, I was just wondering before I call to ask for the FT3 and FT4 tests if this could be skewing the results at all.
Avatar f tn If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.
Avatar f tn my question is, when you have a baby by hysterectomy and some of the placenta is left behind can this then lead to endrometriosis as thats what i have and now i am having to have a hysterectomy which i am really scared off. im having it done in 3 weeks time.
Avatar n tn Heck yes it will. That is why I had mine. I think it was the greatest thing I have ever done.
Avatar f tn After seeing the Dr. she scraped my uterus and ran tests,I was given birth control to help regulate my periods and I was feeling very confident. Then a few weeks later the Dr. calls me in and when I get there she tells me that my test results came in and that it seemed like I had cancer in my uterus. But the weird thing was that she said "Yes" I had cancer but then she said "But the only way to be 100% positive is for you to get a hysterectomy.
