hysterectomy

Avatar m tn My sister is a 45 postmenopausal female which is because of two much fibroid(30 pcs) did hysterectomy two days ago and one ovary removed , one ovary remained ,I need to know does this one ovary can support enough hormone(Estrogen ,progesterone) for her body and does she have menstrual cycle or no ?
Avatar f tn And then there are the problems associated with hysterectomy such as pelvic floor dysfunction and prolapse, altered anatomy and skeletal structures (spine, hips, rib cage placement and alignment leading to back, hip, midsection pain) and sexual dysfunction (reduced libido, arousal, response). Estrogen has been shown to mitigate some of the risks of the loss or failure of ovaries and to improve quality of life.
Avatar n tn m not sure if this is the right decision as heart disease and bone demineralization (osteoporosis) runs in my family. Keeping the ovaries is risky, but having another 4 or 5 years of natural hormone production could be a plus. Anyone else given the 'order' for a THS? Shouldn't more diagnostic work be implicated before such a radical procedure? And....as an aside....why is there not more information available regarding andenomyosis?
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
1809377 tn?1316520328 Even so, sometimes they will atrophy about three to six months after a hysterectomy and so you might experience a drop in Estradiol and a drop in Testosterone. If, of course, you have your ovaries removed, then you have lost your ability to create the sex hormones and will most likely choose to use supplemental estradiol and a little bit of testosterone. That's what I have done and it's made a world of difference in more ways than just in the area of sexual response.
Avatar f tn They have likely atrophied due to your hysterectomy and loss of blood flow and feedback loop with the uterus. The ovaries naturally shrink after menopause but they continue to produce hormones at least until age 80 in women who have all their parts. These hormones are essential to every aspect of health. Do a web search for "pubmed bilateral oophorectomy long term health" to understand the many repercussions / adverse effects of having ovaries (part of the endocrine system) removed.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
1931832 tn?1398880449 I had undergone Total Abdominal Hysterectomy last April 2012. And then after a month, I felt back pain. I thought it was the after effect of drugs during the procedure...as days went on, my knees had the same too..I went to see my OB and required blood tests for Potassium and Uric, it was found Negative, and immediately prescribed Difenax for pain, it helped though, but I had to see an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper evaluation. Undergo series of x-rays for my knees.
Avatar f tn I choose to have both my ovaries removed when I had my hysterectomy because many people who keep theirs do have to go back sometime in the future and have them removed and I just did not want to do that. The down side to having them both removed it that you do go into menepause and will need some form of hrt. It really is a personal choice.
Avatar n tn I am 56 and just had hysterectomy about 8 weeks ago for prolapse. I had surgeon check my ovaries, and if they looked good keep them. The reason for this on my part was I am already at high risk for fratures with osteoporosis and the little drip left in the ovaries I thought was something I would try and keep. If there is nothing wrong why take them?Hope you make a decision you are happy with. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn at 42 I am sick and very TIRED of extremely painful cysts forming on my right ovary (had lap to remove nasty one less than 2 yrs ago and have had 3 or 4 b/t then and now). GYN & I are trying to set date to remove ovary. I am very happy about that too! But I am also thinking about having my uterus removed. I have had extremely painful periods since they began. Hovering over toilet, not being able to eat, nausea, faintness, crazy mood swings, etc.
3046028 tn?1340538562 However I started exercising and I now have a constant ache cramping and spasms. The pain is in my buttock, hip, bladder and vulva area. Sometimes it feels like my insides are following out. I am concerned could this be ligament pains? I am 50 years old and had no hormonal therapy because my hysterectomy was due to cancer of the endo lining. Anyone can offer any information would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn No, it's not necessary. Why remove body parts that are perfectly functional? Find another gynocologist. I had to see three gynocologists before i was happy. A hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) has long term effects on a woman's health, longevity, and sexuality. Women who have undergone a hysterectomy have a greater risk of a heart attack (triple the risk according to some studies), osteoporosis, and depression.
Avatar f tn However prolonged Endometriosis does caus arthritis also as its an eostrogen related disease, I`ve had it so long that my hair falls and I have nails like paper and creaky joints....its only a matter of time for me! but asprin and Flax seed each day is underrated.
Avatar f tn weird, i think the danger zones are 2.4 osteopenia and then 2.
Avatar n tn I'm 65 and of course, post menopausal. I had a 5+cm cyst on my right ovary and my Gyn suggested removing both ovaries just in case - to prevent future cysts on the good ovary. I went for a second opinion to a Gyn/Onc and he did not feel that it was necessary to remove both if one ovary was perfectly healthy. He's a specialist in this type of procedure so I definitely respected his learned opionion. So, I had him do the surgery and he removed only the ovary with the cyst and the tube.
Avatar f tn But if you and your S/O have discussed it and you are done having children and your Ob suggest it because of the health complications that are being caused then I would go forward with it. I know its scary because what if you all decide you want another baby because you are so young. If you are a spiritual person, I suggest praying about it and maybe mention it to you pastor or spiritual leader. Have them pray with you and ask God to lead you and guide you in the right direction.
Avatar m tn Many women have experienced joint pains and increased risk of osteoporosis and arthritis after hysterectomy. Was it a total hysterectomy or partial one with ovaries retained?Lack of estrogens due to ovary removal may be responsible for bone loss and hence widespread pains. So I feel that a simultaneous consultation of a rheumatologist and gynecologist will be the best. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your child is doing or if you have any additional queries.
605893 tn?1220181685 Osteoporosis is most common in women after menopause, when it is called postmenopausal osteoporosis, but may also develop in men, and may occur in anyone in the presence of particular hormonal disorders and other chronic diseases or as a result of medications, specifically glucocorticoids, when the disease is called steroid- or glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I am 49 a single mom with three kids, one is special needs. I have been diagnosed with high grade DCIS and LCIS. I also have MS. First does anyone know if it is possible to have double mastectomy, reconstruction and hysterectomy at the same time? I'm in good shape, well other the above mentioned of course. Second if I did all this would I still be put on the anti-estrogen drugs. Yes I'm post menopause so it would be the ones that totally block estrogen like Femara not Tamoxifen.
Avatar m tn Osteoporosis is a common condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile, creating an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is usually painless until a fraction takes place, and osteoporosis is a major contributing factor to bone fracture, including hip fractures, which are more common as people age. There are almost 2 million hip fractures annually around the world. While in the U.S.
