Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and no hrt

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn You really should have a follow up after your hysterectomy. Did they take out the ovaries? Are you on any HRT ? What type of surgery did you have for the hysterectomy? I had one done. I was only out a week from work. I was put on HRT the day after surgery. I had 2 follow ups after surgery. You do want to make sure they do test your thyroid.
1321741 tn?1304530624 I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 28 and immediately began HRT. I'm now 59 and still using HRT. My mother is 82 and is still using HRT. I think how long you take the meds is between you and your doctor and the risk factors you may or may not have.
Avatar f tn I also had a hysterectomy and did not start HRT until around 6 weeks post-op even though I was not having many symptoms (the main one being inability to sleep). However, the HRT was not adequate for me because I ended up being "slammed" with symptoms (with hot flashes being the least of them).
Avatar n tn The reason you need HRT after a hysterectomy is to avoid long term issues such as osteoporosis (sp), cardiac design, thinning skin, eye degeneration, and brain function declination. There are some that believe that by keeping your hormones balanced you may also avoid certain types of cancer. I recommend visitinga site called hystersisters that has a WHOLE lot of info on HRT. The fact that he is removing you suddenly instead of gradually is bad practice. I would go to a different Dr.
Avatar n tn Fibroids and polyps are almost always benign (~99%) so hysterectomy would be overkill. And hysterectomy causes lifelong harm. I call it the surgery that keeps on giving... problem after problem... even if the ovaries are "preserved." Intercourse or pelvic exams can cause polyps to bleed. And if they aren't removed at the base, they can recur and cause heavy bleeding. What were the reasons for the D&C's - as part of the polyp removal or was your lining too thick?
Avatar f tn I too have endo and had the complete hysterectomy which I so regret, I had no choice but to use hrt...because of my age and the risks of not being on them...I would STRONGLY suggest using bio-identical hrt as this is the safest route because they are an exact replica of the hormones your body made before you had your ovaries removed. I do not know if you will be thrown into hormone hell like I was but it took years to get any estrogen in my system...and I was suicidal or agitated...
Avatar f tn I am 5 weeks post op after hysterectomy but after suffering a few night sweats, my doctor gave me Premarin oral HRT. It is 5 days now and although the night sweats have eased, my acne has become worse. My doctor said that this eostrogen alone hrt may help the acne, do I need to give it chance? Is it normal to get worse before better?
Avatar n tn after my hysterectomy 2 years ago i have hot flashes and night sweats it is severe i have tried everthing at the wal mart pharmacy over the counter nothing is working im going crazy pls help me on wat to do
Avatar n tn I had them after not doing HRT. I have resumed my HRT and they cleared up.
Avatar f tn hi there, I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I would strongly suggest to go for a 2nd and even 3rd opionion. I had a total radical hysterectomy in my early 20's (I'm now in my 50's) and HRT introduced new problems. I would try to keep the one ovary.
Avatar n tn s like they ripped out my heart and soul in that operating room - no motivation, no joy, everything is overwhelming, not to mention severe classic "menopausal" symptoms. Estrogen helps some but I want my parts back! Whaaaaa!
Avatar f tn It has been found to increase the risk for BC, which is why so many women went off their long-term HRT use a few years back, and why doctors now recommend that HRT (esp. combined HRT) be used at the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible. (Didn't your doctor advise you to go off the hormones after the atypicla ductal cells were found?) Bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Reclast, etc.): no.
Avatar f tn m fine with HRT my mother has had it ever since her hysterectomy and is now 80 yrs old with no health problems. She says she would never do anything different. I have low blood pressure, low thyroid, and low blood sugar and no real family history of heart disease. Me and my family are suffering severely from my peri menopause symptoms. I have night sweats, no sex drive, extreme fatigue, weight gain even though I'm very careful with my diet and walk/jog 3 miles a day.
Avatar m tn I am 56, and had a hysterectomy when I was 39. I took HRT for 7 years also, I am still having awful hot flashes. Sometimes I can have 4--5 at night, and probably 3/4 in the day. The daytime ones are not as bad. I get a horrible anxious feeling with them as well at times. I am also wondering when this will all end. I have been to my doctor and had loads of test, according to him I am still in peri menopause.!! Lack of good sleep and feeling so awful is really affecting my quality of life.
Avatar f tn If you have endometreosis and ovarian cysts and opt to have a hysterectomy, DO NOT go on HRT. You should be made aware that unless your doctor was lucky enough to get out all of the endometriosis ( which he isn't), you will still have the disease. I had that problem myself and had a hysterectomy done and went immediately on HRT's not knowing at the time that HRT's feed endometriosis just like the ovaries did. The result was a second surgery 5 yrs.
Avatar n tn I had a full open Hysterectomy about 12 years ago, when I was 36. I was on HRT for 9 years. I couldn't start for 18 months after the surgery due to severe endometriosis. I went off HRT for no particular reaosn other than I felt OK w/o it. Now I am having what I think are hot flashes at night. My thyroid (which I have had trouble with since I was 18) is all off, I have swollen lymph nodes for 2 years. Can you go through menopuase symptoms anyway??
Avatar f tn Even with hrt. I am no longer on hrt, but I am on Welbutrin and Zoloft for the depression and help really does help. It seems like us women have all the luck, but God knew men was going to be wimps so we had to carry the burden. Ask your doctor about an antidepressant, it has really helped me. Have you gained weight since your surgery? I've gained about 20 pounds, all in the belly. I thought the hrt had caused it so I quit taking it.
Avatar f tn I was on vivelle patch for many, many years and ran into trouble just taking estrogen. What happened was my adrenals were having a hard time working and since everything was taken out during my hysto., I wasn't producing much progesterone. My adrenals started to steal progesterone and I started having daily anxiety and panic attacks among other symptoms. As soon as I was put on progesterone, anxiety got better. I'm on the road to recovery now but it's taking a bit of time.
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar f tn I had a spare total hysterectomy and bilateral silpango oophorectomy two years ago no hrt in the past yr my body has all but given up 40lbs later severe joint pain and mood,?
Avatar n tn What would make me bleed after hysterectomy 9 years later I have my left ovarie only its only when having sex?
Avatar f tn The HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy) is pretty rough. Trying to find the right meds and dealing with the risks of HRT can be challenging. All and all, if I could go back in time I think I would have refused the hysterectomy but of course I'm saying that now because I haven't experienced the serious pain as much. I say "as much" because there are still times when I have pain because apparently the endo.
1215943 tn?1268502753 I used estrigen patch for a year my only symptoms was hot flashes and night sweats bad at first and much less as time passed, I stopped hrt after a year and feel great, Here is the thing..some women are like I was or even better,,most fall in between.
