Hysterectomy and laparoscopy

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and laparoscopy

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Hysterectomy, ovary removal or not, seems to affect metabolism because many women complain of weight gain. Although sometimes the surgery seems to cause transient bloating more so than permanent weight gain. This may be due to the effect on the bowels and maybe even the bladder (and hence the kidneys) since those organs are displaced (descend in the abdomen) after the uterus is removed.
Avatar f tn I am 44 yrs old, have never had children, been physically disabled (due primarily to pain and severe fatigue) with no quality of life for almost a year, have been suffering with progressively worsening pelvic pain which has become almost unbearable, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis, and am seeing an Ob/Gyn today about his experience with treating women via surgical hysterectomy...I'd appreciate some feedback on how a hysterectomy has helped your life.
Avatar f tn In 1994, she was first detected for ovarian cyst and got her laparoscopy done. In 2004, she got detected of Ovarian cyst again and got her hysterectomy done. now after almost 12yrs of her operation, she is having excessive fluid coming out of her vaniga and she is becoming very weak. Avatar n tn ), my endrometrial lining is thicker than normal and I have decided on a supra - hysterectomy. Two cancer drs. have advised the surgery...my gyn. dr. thinks an ablation would be a better choice. Please help me understand what would be the better decision.
Avatar f tn I had a laparoscopy hysterectomy 5 days ago and came home day two I am extremely bloated and although not eating a lot drinking plenty but the gas doesn’t seem to be dissipating at all. Is it to early to expect it to have gone or even reduced by now? The gas pain is far worse than the op itself with shoulder tip pain being the worse I was told to expect this do not to concerned about it but just feel so blown up. Eating seems to make it worse. Any advice would be appreciated.

Avatar f tn I actually went in to have a cyst removed, but the cyst had already ruptured, but they found endometriosis. I have hurt and hurt and I still hurt. I go tomorrow to my ob to discuss further options. At my 2 week post op, he mentioned about the Lupron shot which I do NOT want to take for various reasons. I hurt mainly on my right ovary, but when he did the lap. he said my ovaries looked fine.
Avatar f tn Marci, Hi, yes it is normal. You are swollen from the surgery. Did you have your surgery done by laparoscopy? You had major surgery so give yourself more time. I've just had a total hysterectomy via laparoscopy and tried to wear my jeans after 3 weeks and they were so uncomfortable. Now, at almost 6 weeks, I notice it is lots better. A year and a half before my hysto I'd had my right ovary/cyst and tube removed and it took a while for the swelling to go down.
Avatar f tn The type of surgery may start out as a laparoscopy but end up an laparotomy based on the size of cyst(s) and/or what the doctor finds. This will determine your hospital stay, if any. You will most likely be having those cysts removed and possibly the ovary. Your doctor may have told you that he/she just doesn't know until he can get in there and look. So, I have had 2 laparoscopies. One was to remove a cyst from my right ovary which resulted in the removal of my right ovary as well.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had pelvic pain for 2 months, now gone, ultrasound showed a lesion at the vaginal vault which appears to be a hydrosalpinx. My gynacolagist wants to do a laparoscopy to gain histological diagnosis & removal. I had a abdominal hysterectomy 10 years ago leaving my tubes and ovaries. I am reluctant to have this surgery as the pain is now gone and it is going to take 6 months before the hospital can do this surgery. Is it likely to resolve if it is a hydrosalpinx?
Avatar m tn I had a Myomectomy 3 years ago. Family history my Mom had a hysterectomy 51 many fibriods and heavy bleeding. Will I have to take hormones if I get a hysterectomy? Thank you for your quick comments!
Avatar n tn s an easier recovery period than open surgery and shorter hospital stay. Of course, they can schedule laparoscopy and then go with something bigger like laparotomy if they see something that requires more room to operate. Assuming you just remove the cysts now and all tests are benign, it doesn't guarantee that cysts won't form again. The question is, do you want to be done with all the surgeries now, or are you willing to possibly undergo another one in the future?
Avatar f tn i had total hysterectomy done on Sept. 1, 2010. The procedure was a da Vinci laparoscopy or a robot assisted lap. and the uterus was removed thru the vagina. I had D& C thru the same procedure done on Feb. 22. 2010 and never had any problems after that but the second one, the hysterectomy, i'm experiencing severe spasms and pain on the left side of the stomach. The pain is described as squeezing, tightening feeling that never stops.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn t mention what kind of surgery you had (hysterectomy or just the cyst and/or ovary removed) or how it was done (laparoscopy or laparotomy). It sounds as if you had a laparoscopy with something done vaginally. That is so much easier on your body. It's possible that one of the instruments bruised you. Please call your doctor so that they can evaluate it, though. If it is a cut you definitely don't want to get an infection. Take care and let us know.
Avatar f tn Has the doctor sent you for an ultrasound scan/xray or MRI scan and checked this lump out? Have you been checked out to find out if you have a prolapse of the bladder and bowels? It clearly sounds like you have some problem, possibly even lax muscles that do not support your other organs. Go back to your doctor with your problem, otherwise he will just think you are fine on the new medication, when clearly you are not.
Avatar f tn In 2010 I went in to have polyps removed and to have a partial hysterectomy , it turned out that I started hemorrhaging and they did a full leaving in my overies , and tubes , back in 2010 I had pain in my ovaries and they did nothing they said the pain and bleeding was from the polyps , it is now 2015 and I still have pain with intercourse , pain in my left ovary , that goes into by back , they did pelvic ultra sound , just showed that my ovaries are extremely small for my age of 47 , they n
Avatar f tn I need to get a second opinion since my OBGYN seems to think my only option is a total hysterectomy. Due to my current issues, I am seeing a GI doctor and will have another colonoscopy done. Please help me find another option! I live in St. Louis, MO.
Avatar f tn Dear Doctor: I have posted here in this forum before due to the presence of a fibroid and ovarian cysts. In the left ovary, there is a septum so the doctor ran the CA - 125 in January . It came elevated (95 UI/ml) so he told me that I needed to get operated and depending on the frozen biopsy of the left ovary they would decide if they needed to do a total hysterectomy. Since then, they have repeated the marker several times and it continues being in the same range.
Avatar f tn I am 46 and have battled fibroid problems most of my life, with history of previous laparoscopy and hysteroscopy about 9 years ago to clean out some of the fibroids and endometriosis. Now that I am perimenopausal, my fibroids are out of control, growing fast & multiplying in number. I've had flooding periods for 22 days duration with huge clots, severe cramps, anemia, fatigue, etc.
Avatar n tn But you should get it out before it grows any bigger, and it will definatley grow..thus increasing odds of hysterectomy. Drs must tell you worst case senerio...for example when I had a d/c they told me my bladder may be lacerated...happens almost never. I have heard of grapefruit size polyps..I can understand your concerns. I would be worried too, I am glad you came here for advice. If I was you I would go for the removal vs hysterectomy..I had one of those, I am very much fine now..
Avatar f tn Hi, I am getting Horrible lower right side pain with my period. I have had this happen the last few cycles. I also get it on and off throughout the month but nothing like during my period. I have a 2cm complex cyst on my right ovary and my uterus is about the size of if i was 2 1/2 months pregnant. I am scheduled for a Histeroscopy with D&C and a Laparoscopy in about a weeks time as i am moving and he wants to check me out before i leave just incase its something that needs taken care of.
Avatar n tn There are various types of cysts, and a dermoid cyst mature cystic teratoma containing hair (sometimes very abundant) and other structures characteristic of normal skin and other tissues derived from the ectoderm. The term is most often applied to teratoma on the skull sutures and in the ovaries of females (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teratoma#Dermoid_cyst). And there's no need to be concerned, they are most often benign (only 2% are malignant). I had a 6.5 cm dermoid removed last month.
