Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and keep cervix

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn However once the healing takes place, everything should be ok. Cervical dilatation should help keep open the cervix to drain the secretions and menstrual blood. The chance of such women needing a hysterectomy is very less. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello, A total abdominal hysterectomy removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen and it also removes the cervix. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer.
1809377 tn?1316520328 Some talk about losing sexual pleasure if the cervix is removed and I got concerned. My GYN and I have agreed to keep my ovaries as long as they are not diseased, I am only 34 years old and in both sides of my family I have a history of heart disease & osteoporosis. Therefore, there is no reason to take greater risks & getting my ovaries removed. She mentioned women who get their ovaries removed at a younger age tend to have a higher risk of these conditions.
Avatar f tn s like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris. I Have also had a lot of painful periods. and have had 3 children all weighing 8'11 9' 9 and 8' 9.... I also have had Hypothyroidism since age 6mos.
Avatar f tn I have GAD and panic disorder and am getting ready to have a vaginal hysterectomy. My obgyn suggested taking my uterus, cervix and left tube and ovary. At first I thought I wanted him to take the right side as well but I'm just not sure. I am scared with having the anxiety problem anyway that it will throw me way out of wack. If I leave the right ovary will it help regulate my hormones or will I still need HRT.
351724 tn?1267537018 Yes...regardless ..they take everything out anyway your uterus, ovaries and cervix UNLESS yours is not a radical hysterectomy just partial that's different story. Sunes.
Avatar m tn I was referring to the pathology reports from the colposcopy (removal of cervical tissue) prior to your hysterectomy and the one from the removal of your uterus and cervix (hysterectomy).
Avatar n tn in 2004, they removed my uterus and left ovary and tube...I still have my cervix. I asked to keep it, for a few reasons....and my gyn/oncologist said I never had a bad pap, so it was not a problem. To be honest...never heard of any connection between ovarian and cervical. Ovarian, breast and colon, yes. Remember, sex for us, as females in many ways is "emotional"...more so than physical....soooo, if there is vaginal dryness, etc, there are creams and lotions...
Avatar f tn If your uterus and cervix were removed (total hysterectomy) and you did not have cervical cancer then you should not need any more pap smears. Ovary removal (oophorectomy) has nothing to do with it.
Avatar f tn A dr at a clinic gave me a pap test and told me that my cervix is bloody. I am 60 and have not had a period or any bleeding whatsoever in 8 years. What would cause this ? I'm waiting for reports to come back and it's driving me crazy. Will I need a hysterectomy ?
Avatar f tn Your cavity has not been successfully evaluated and your Gynecologist is now recommended hysterectomy which would allow reassurance and likely resolve your symptoms. Uterine Artery embolization would not resolve the concern of a possible underlying cancer. I suggest that you consider cytotec which is used for cervical ripening and try ultrasound guided EMB if you are resistant to hysterectomy.
7895403 tn?1395152718 yes I had a pap smear and ultra scan tests got to go back on the 2nd of April to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital for results saw Gyno Hansen there, do you think I must have a Hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn Only way to get pregnant after partial hysterectomy is the cervix wasn’t closed completely and a microscopic opening is there, or tubes wasn’t separated and closed in the stump. It’s so rare for this to happen. Better chance at winning the lottery.
Avatar f tn I assume you had a hysterectomy (versus a myomectomy) since you posted on the hysterectomy forum. It's hard to know if the problems are from the repairs/sling or the hysterectomy. Hysterectomy causes the bladder and bowel to drop down which can cause problems with elimination. Constipation is common after hysterectomy due to the displacement of the bowel which of course can cause hemorrhoids. And as Dr. Wanjari mentioned, vaginal atrophy can cause pain with intercourse.
1896954 tn?1323468296 I got a hysterectomy because I had lesions on my cervix from the Hpv and I had fybroid tumors that were making me heavy bleed. The reason I got the hysterectomy is because my doctor said Hpv never went away, once you got it you have it for life. I heard other women say the same thing and that it runs in the blood stream.
Avatar f tn I have had to have a partial Hysterectomy and i was able to keep my cervix and 1 ovary. It has been since 1992 that i had this done. Tonight I noticed that I was having a period just as I use to have before my surgery. I'm scared, it's been a very long time ago and I thought that the surgery had taken care of that. and I thought I would not do this anymore. What could be wrong with me??
Avatar m tn The hysterectomy you are going to have is a sub-total hysterectomy if the cervix is left behind. A lot of women prefer to keep their cervix as they believe it helps in achieving sexual satisfaction although this is open to debate with many doctors saying it has no effect. This type of hysterectomy is easier to perform with quicker recovery as less tissue is being removed. If your cervix is left behind you will still need to have pap smears.
Avatar f tn i have had a partial hysterectomy just over a year ago they left ovaries and cervix behind as i has been steralised year prior to hysterectomy to my horror after having mini periods as regular as clock work my doc decovered with an ultra sound scan that i have so womb left on and near my cervix and that my ovaries aint where they should be so he put me on the mini pill for the bleeding just need sum help and to find out if this has happened to anyone else
Avatar f tn When we try it is so painful, my cervix is so tight and has never failed me before. I had a hysterectomy, and my ovaries were also removed. someone please tell me what to do, what could it be?
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old. I had a baby 4 months ago as of April 26th and a hysterectomy 2 months ago as of April 21st. Yesterday out of the blue when I woke up I started bleeding. It was bright red and somewhat watery. It lasted only through that day. I am not sure why. I started running on Sunday and wasn't sure if that was why. I did get the clean bill of health after 6 weeks from my dr.
Avatar n tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy with lapraoscopy to assist. (cervix and uterus) 08/07. Dec I tried to have vaginal sex but the pain was so severe that I could not continue. I also had vaginal spotting that evening and the next morning had blood around my stools. Went to the doctor and he did an internal ultrasound of my ovaries and there appeared to be a small cyst. Since then I've been able to have intercourse without severe pain but still discomfort.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy Dec.2010 due to fibroids and heavy bleeding. I am 48 years old and sadly, didn't research things as much as I should have. Due to the economy, my husband had to take a job out of state and I work full-time and also raise my developmentally disabled adult daughter. I was afraid of having another bad bleeding "incident" and was extremely anemic.
Avatar m tn I am 43 and had a full hysterectomy 6 weeks ago but prior to that was having menopause symptoms. I went on the Vivelle hormone replacement patch the day of surgery and everything went away. Even all my menopausal symptoms prior to my surgery. I don't have any issues at all.
