Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and fertility

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn She said thats not going to fix the problem you need a hysterectomy. 13 years of heavy bleeding and severe pain on left side and dermrod and 2 other kinds of cyst removed.
Avatar f tn I am still in pain, during intercourse, as well as everyday cramping, and lower back pain. I talked to doctor and she suggested an abdominal hysterectomy. Should I do this? Will it really help?? I have tried lupron, and had two laprascopies with removal of adhesions as well as countless chocolate cysts. Was told by fertility specialist after last lap that tubes are completly blocked as well as being tangled with my bowels.
Avatar f tn I have stage IV endo. I was diagnosed at 25 by a fertility specialist. I have had to different surgeries to remove the scar tissue, endo & cyst. I was not successful with the fertility treatments and we moved forward with adoption as our option for our family. Seven yrs ago I went to my gyno and asked for a hysterectomy. He then recommended the IUD, which at the time was still a trial for treating women with endo.
195145 tn?1255636447 I am posting this here because I know many of you and appreciate your advice (I will post it in a few other forums also). As many of you know, my mom passed away due to ovarian cancer (12-6-07). I have a beautiful DD that was conceived via IVF, took lots of fertility meds. I was with my mom during one of her consultations for OC. Her oncologist asked mom about her daughters (there are 3 of us).

When I explained to the oncologist about my IVF and fertility meds, he looked me straight in the eyes and said, "When you are finished having children or before you are 40, get a hysterectomy, ovaries and all.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis. I've been offered a choice of treatments: either an hysterectomy/bilateral oopherectomy or hormonal therapy (Lupron for a few months, add-back therapy and then the pill).
Avatar n tn With this said, I guess my question is, Is it possible for me to have my eggs frozen, and also is it necessary for me to have a hysterectomy. He wants me to make a decision next week and is trying to get me to schedule the procedure, but I don't feel comfortable with him and I know that if I do, he will NOT do the procedure.

Avatar f tn some omentum removal, some lymph nodes removed, I think an apendectomy diaphram scrapping (my terms not his) and something else or do the the original surgery and take a wait and see approach? If in the rare instance it is malignant (which he does not think it would be) then the surgery would pretty much be the same. My question is if it is benign, mucinous or serous cystadenoma, should I just go for the hysterectomy anyway and get rid of all furture concerns?
11840874 tn?1421504748 Unless you are willing to consider adoption, the only possibility for a baby for you and your boyfriend to raise would be if he went to a fertility doctor alone and told them he wanted a child, and hired a gestational carrier ("surrogate mother") and used a donor egg and his sperm, and the surrogate carried the baby.
1467678 tn?1370941532 i had problems with acne and hairiness hence different pills, and i experienced depression and moodiness on different pills. Nuvaring ( I got continuous uti infections from having this inside me) Implanon- no sex drive at all ( relationship issues due to that) Depo provera injection worked for me was happy with this but I'm not sure its suitable to my above conditions.
Avatar n tn I had teratomas on both ovaries, the first doctor said he would have to do a total hysterectomy! I got a second opinion, and this dr saved both my ovaries and didn't even have to do a laparotomy. My advice would be to get a second, or even a third opinion - u have your whole life ahead of u and u need to make sure the dr knows how important it is to preserve your fertility.
Avatar f tn If it is borderline, there is no need, at this point to have a hysterectomy. A GYN/Oncologist would work with you, given your age, to attempt to save fertility and not want to put you into menopause, and would most likely remove only the ovary with the cyst. Your CA125 could be off for a lot of reasons, including where you are presently in your cycle. Are they repeating the scans and the CA125 prior to surgery? Have you thought about a 2nd opinion?
Avatar f tn As my doc says, pain is never normal! Don't trick yourself into thinking that it is, if you have pain it's your body's way of telling you that something is not as it should be. Since preserving your fertility is no longer a concern and you're 51, I'd say that unless your family has a history of late menopause, I'd have it yanked out. Think of the positives, no more pain, no girlie things to buy, no more ruining your favorite pair of undies...
Avatar f tn s been suggested that I have adenomyosis and that I should strongly consider having a hysterectomy. I have a very rare coagulapathy (a polymorphism) and am on Lovenox, so I've now seemingly run out of treatment options, as I can't use traditional BC. My main question is: Can adenomyosis alone cause infertility? If there is a chance that I could get pregnant, I would postpone having a hysterectomy as long as I could.
Avatar f tn s health issues are enshrouded in mystery, and it is amazing that an expert like you is willing to disseminate quality information. I have a few questions about my own fertility and reproductive health. 1.) I am a 25 year old female. I have not yet had vaginal sex, but I had one oral/mutual masturbation encounter over a year ago with a male my age (I gave with protection, received without). I learned later of his promiscuity, and was nervous enough to get STD tested around 11 months later.
1214188 tn?1272324207 I have endo and so does my sister. I was able to get pregnant and have 2 children and my sister has 4.
Avatar f tn So I have had abdominal surgery 7 times, 5 of which were open abdominal. I have had my right fallopian tube removed. I currently have large cysts on both of my ovaries. I have been trying for 4 years to get pregnant. My previous doctor wasn't super helpful and I'm actively searching for a new one. I cry all the time about my situation, I want to have at least one baby before I have to have a complete histerectomy. Any suggestions? I'm desperate...
Avatar n tn diagnosed with LMP tumor 2 years ago stage ll, had one ovary and fallopian removed and partial ovary on other side and showed a small growth on uterus. Wanted to preserve fertility but now another large growth on piece of ovary that is left gyn says looks like another tumor yet CA-125 is not elevated this time. First I thought these things were slow growers, next if the same type of tumor why is the CA-125 not elevated.
Avatar m tn Your Dr is right they often will perserve fertility in those of child-bearing age and then do a complete hysterectomy. But I would ask for first a referral to gyn-oncologist (ask around if you can find one familiar with borderline tumors as they are rare) and a second opinion on the pathology. Good luck and take care.
Avatar f tn My husband, after being tested, had some fertility issues. He sought medical treatment by a urologist and after a year of ruling out and trying things his sperm count and motility didn't increase. All along, he thought it was because of my condition that we were having difficulty, but really he was the bigger problem. We underwent IVF - one cycle and I am now pregnant. Bottom line, don't assume that your wife is hiding things from you.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else had my symptoms and had them go away on their own? Or have the symptoms without fertility issues and had a positive endo diagnosis with the surgery? I've seriously considered cancelling the surgery at this point but a friend of mine with endo thinks I need to go through with it just so that I can be sure. Please tell me what ya'll think!!
Avatar f tn My comment is similar to cj222. I have stage 1c as well and almost two years ago my doctor removed the cancerous ovary/fallopian tube and staged me adequately. I had 6 rounds of chemo. I waited 6 months after the chemo, got pregnant and now I'm set to deliver a healthy baby boy in three weeks. I'm having my second look surgery during my c-section delivery and then a full hysterectomy later this year.
4144828 tn?1351683716 she had a hysterectomy. In that time she had she had me, and seven years later my brother. I know that my grandmother had to have a hysterectomy early too, but I don't know about miscarriages & can't ask her....So the only person alive or that i'm in contact with is my dad, and he's less than thrilled to talk to me about his ex wifes fertility issues. Is this going to happen to me, am I going to have problems and have miscarriage after miscarriage ?
Avatar f tn Hello this is my first time writing on here I had a partial hysterectomy and in 2012.
211043 tn?1337050701 Thank you for your responses. Mary - Unfortunately I think it's the adenomyosis causing my pain, not adhesions. I have had just one tiny area of adhesions removed in each of my laps. Cherie - as I mentioned, my doctor did offer Lupron as a suggestion, but said he couldn't guarantee it would take away all my pain and that when I went off of it that it would probably come back. My uterus has been described as VERY "boggy" and enlarged.
