Hypoglycemia can lead to diabetes if not watched. I was told by my doctor that we are going to have to watch me for diabetes as I am hypoglycemic. Because there is a history of diabetes in my family.

Recently I started passing out and my doctor ordered a 5 hour fasting. About hour 3 I crashed to a blood sugar level of about 37. I have met with a nutritionist and I am trying to adhere to this diet. However, it isn't making me feel any better. My head is very cloudy and I have difficulty concentrating. Alcohal has many different effects on diabetics which is why the American Diabetes Association recomends diabetics only drink two drinks a day. If you take insulin for the alcohol it will just lower your blood sugar since alcohol doesn't need insulin for it to be digested. Alcohol malso has the further effect of lowering blood sugar without the extra insulin, so alcohol should only be taken while eating.

I have been told in the past that I have hypoglycemia. That was over 5 Years ago, but now my symptoms are more severe and happen without food issues. I begin to shake and feel extremely weak. Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.

I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes, and my physician at the time immediately put me on actoplusmet (no discussion of diet and excersise control first). I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.

I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. I was almost killed recently while in the hospital, because they thought it was regular hypoglycemia and drew blood without giving me anything to eat or drink. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I was diagnosed Type 1 (1.5) much later in life but I have spoken with many young diabetics and unfortunately, this rebellion stage is not uncommon. After being forced from a young age to be so disciplined they miss the freedom that their peers have and then stop for a time managing their diabetes as they should. You really can't make your son control his diabetes even though I know how hard this must be for you. One thing that might help is if he could connect to other diabetics his age.

If you need to take glucose pills often because it feels sick and perhaps giddy you need to get your baseline blood sugar levels checked. You could be suffering from undiagnosed diabetes and slipping into spells of hypoglycemia inadvertently. Also the itchiness could also be tingling due to peripheral neuropathy often seen with diabetes. An Hb1AC could be tested to see the long term glucose control in your body. I guess I just wanted to know if I could have both hypo and hyperglycemia and it makes sense that hypoglycemia would correlate with my eating habits and exercise (I go way too long without eating sometimes and I'm working on that). Hello. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. That doctor is wrong, 4 year olds can and do have hypoglycemia. You don't say for sure that she has diabetes, but you're testing blood sugars and talking about the honeymoon, so I suspect she is. I would talk to a endocrinologost, not a neurologist, as the conditions you describe are exactly the conditions for hypoglycemia.
