Hypoglycemia while sleeping

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia while sleeping

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn NPH insulin has very definite peaks and a peak while he is sleeping is of dangerous if he is not digesting food to cover the insulin. I myself used to have lows when sleeping often enough to frighten me and my husband when I was taking NPH. I switched to taking a 24-hour insulin called Lantus, and this solved the problem for me. So if he is not interested in switching to a pump, beautiful control without severe lows can be acheived with this newer-than-NPH insulin.

Avatar n tn Lipitor is well known to work while you are sleeping, because the Liver makes most cholesterol at this time. Other statin brands can be taken at any time, probably because they sit in the blood for longer or something, but Lipitor strictly instruct you to take in the evening. There are many reasons for trembling/shakes, perhaps your Dr should start with a blood test to look at your electrolyte levels. These are metals which you consume in food and assist the nervous system in conductivity.

4569058 tn?1356624189 The machine might have been old, or broken. I'd still consult a doctor if this continues. If it had to be one of the two, it'd probably be hypoglycemia. Here are some symptoms of it you need to watch.
Avatar n tn I keep asking about diabetes but they keep saying she would be much sicker and blood draws were done while in the hospital for the gallbladder and not even a hint of it so I rested my case yesterday. In her case, we now think they are illness related as it happened in the hosp with the gallbladder pain, etc. and a week ago at school and yesterday was at the Dr for an ear/sinus infection which is dragging her down. Keep us posted. I'm glad you have an answer but no cure yet!

Avatar f tn While sleeping I was awakened by a major dizzy spell. When i sat up the room began spinning so bad i had to lay down at which time I started feeling sick on my stomach. Avatar n tn The cramps could be due to the hypoglycemia, while other possibilities such as electrolyte abnormalities, vascular issues etc may need to be considered as well. In episodes of acute hypoglycemia, finely grained sugar or candies work better than chocolate along with a little water. Since this was a single episode it may be ignored, however if it repeats you may consider a detailed evaluation by a primary care physician or an internist for suggestion for an appropriate management plan.

Avatar f tn t touch any additional problems with hypoglycemia. So hypoglycemia probably should be ruled out so it does not complicate the issue. If hypoglycemia is suspected, then you should try to keep some sort of juice handy and drink a small quantity if you start to feel "off" at all just so as to make sure that this is not the cause. I happen to be a tightly-controlled diabetic who occasionally does find myself hypo and I have learned to really listen to what my body is telling me.
Avatar f tn I was also prescribed Lexapro, Lamictal, and Welbutrin for dystymia and anxiety. I recently taperd off the Lexapro. I now have all the symptoms of hypoglycemia: tingling in lips (its constant, no break) and dizziness at just the slightest turn of the head, heart rate that is averaging 100 beats per minute (this has been constant not in little bursts for about three days now), and tightness in the chest/lung area, slight muscular type pain during deep breathing (also for about 5 days now).
Avatar n tn Are weight loss and drops in blood glucose levels side effects of tamoxifen? I had a lumpectomy for DCIS one year ago and have been on tamoxifen for 10 1/2 months. I started taking the tamoxifen in the evenings; however, I found that I wasn't sleeping well, so I began taking it in the mornings. I find that if I do not take it with my breakfast or immediately after, my blood gluclose levels drop sharply.
Avatar f tn I have been having this weird body shakes of the top half of my body, my arms and chest feel tensed and can't move whilst this is happening. It happens as I am going to sleep and now it is starting to wake me up through the night. After it has finished I am then unconscious and don't wake until the morning with a horrible headache and not able to function and have memory loss that can last for a day or two.

Avatar m tn Hi there! I'm a 28 year old male and I have a problem with sleeping too long. When I go to sleep I sleep too much like as little as 9 hours to almost 12 hours a day sometimes a little more. I never seem to keep the same sleep patterns either. I will sleep during the day and night. When I wake up I can't seem to get motivated to get out of bed. I just fall right back to sleep. I'm tired when I'm awake, I often feel drowsy and mentally dull, I can't focus or concentrate.
Avatar f tn Does he get coldsweats, sweat while he is sleeping in a cold room, headaches? Hypoglycemia can also mix with Diabetes, make sure he gets tested for both. If that is the case, Essentially, he will have to eat every 2-3 hours small meals mainly consisting of complex carbs and simple sugars to keep his levels steady throughout the day. Its not epilepcy. Also have his protein levels checked. I suspect he is not eating enough red meat. Low protein diets can cuse similar symptoms to appear.
Avatar f tn At your age, Sara, during a growth spurt, orthostatic hypotension can be frequent or hypoglycemia, but the occurrence prior to your meal makes other possibilities to rule out. I recommend checking out your cardiac status (with an ECG)--even though remote, it could be a serious problem which is just now surfacing. Check out your GI status (Gastroenterologist) with the relation to your meal and heartburn. And check out your Gynecologic condition with a specialist in this area.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I'm a type 1 diabetic and I had a severe hypoglycemic episode 2 days ago while I was sleeping, requiring my wife to give me glucagon. It was three days after a previous episode (also sleeping), and I am still feeling a bit "foggy." I feel woozy and vaguely off-balance, and the closest analogy I can give to the feeling is that of a vicious, vicious hangover.
Avatar f tn part (which is a characteristic as well of Type II diabetes) in people diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia is related to the chemical process that causes the Hypoglycemia (an excess of insulin). My quick search turned up dozens of articles so you should have no problem getting more information. I would also speak more to your doctor. I'm curious about that 166 blood sugar you mentioned as that is high (hyperglycemic) not low (hypoglycemic). Good luck on figuring it all out.
Avatar f tn A while back, last summer, I had been on a road trip from minnesota back to missouri, I hardly ate anything but a little bit of puppy chow and some cheese curds, that night while trying to unpack before eating I got really dizzy and shaky, I realize at this point it was most likely from low blood sugar due to not eating, but not every time I go for a few hours without eating when I start to feel hungry I get really shaky and anxious, do you think this is hypoglycemia developing or just associati
