Hypoglycemia vs diabetes 1

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia vs diabetes 1

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn I am a Type II diabetic and what you have described sounds like hypoglycemia vs. hyperglycemia (diabetes). I have experienced hypoglycemia on several occasions and my symptoms were quite similar to yours. See your doc right away.
Avatar n tn As Zoe suggested, talk with your doctor to help get your glucose under control. Conditions associated with type 1 diabetes include hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis and celiac disease. Avatar m tn I'm a 31 year old Hispanic male. Current weight 232lbs, (height = 6'1) with most of it concentrated around my waist. Still, this is also the lowest I've been since I was 13. About a year ago I had a GTT done which revealed me to be a flat-line hypoglycemic. (Fasting = 79, 1/2hr = 81, 1hr = 71, 2hr =79) I have a very strong family history of diabetes and am working to prevent it in myself At least, that's what I hope.
Avatar f tn I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if this is true hypoglycemia or if there is some element of diabetes going on here. She was in Children's hospital as an infant and had a really heavy fluid load (going from 9lbs to 14lbs over night) due to a heart problem which is now alright. I'm wondering if there was some possible damage to her pancreas as a baby that we are just now seeing the result of and should I be worrying about these numbers.
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar n tn Type 1(juvenile) diabetes is most often diagnosed in childhood, but young adults and seniors can develop type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the persons pancreas stops producing insulin, resulting in the rise of blood sugar. Because Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmunine disease (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), the person's own immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. More than 1 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes, for which there is no cure.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed Type 1 (1.5) much later in life but I have spoken with many young diabetics and unfortunately, this rebellion stage is not uncommon. After being forced from a young age to be so disciplined they miss the freedom that their peers have and then stop for a time managing their diabetes as they should. You really can't make your son control his diabetes even though I know how hard this must be for you. One thing that might help is if he could connect to other diabetics his age.
Avatar n tn t say if you have type 1 diabetes. How low does your blood sugar drop at how long after eating. Then how high does it spike? Are you on medication or insulin?

885280 tn?1289562555 Hypoglycemia can lead to diabetes if not watched. I was told by my doctor that we are going to have to watch me for diabetes as I am hypoglycemic. Because there is a history of diabetes in my family.
Avatar f tn You have posted on the type 2 forum, hyperglycemia, not type 1 aka juvenile diabetes. Prepare yourself to ask your doctor questions by using Google and search on 'hyperglycemia testing' and/or 'type 1 diabetes testing'. Also, call the doctor's office and ask if you should fast 8-10 hours prior. To add to allymarbles, an endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diabetes care and treatment. Most PCP's know only basic care - here take this pill, call me later.
Avatar f tn I am little confused after reading some info on Diabetes & Hypoglycemia. I have been told I am Insulin resistant & Hypoglycemic.....does this mean I am borderline Diabetic? I am 37 years old. I am on Metformin twice a day....any info would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn sputters and eventually fatigues into diabetes. Not everyone who has hypoglycemia develops diabetes. Managing diabetes or managing hypoglycemia allows folks to live long, healthy and happy lives -- and yet it takes a lot of learning & a lot of work.
649848 tn?1534633700 ve had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia... Because of the pre-diabetes diagnosis, I have tried to follow a diabetic diet for some time to prevent full blown diabetes; however, since having this test, I find myself starving and getting weak/shakey within a short period of eating, no matter what kind of food I eat. I also have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes, and my physician at the time immediately put me on actoplusmet (no discussion of diet and excersise control first). I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly.
Avatar n tn My son, now 9-1/2 was dagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 3. My sister was diagnosed 8 yrs. ago at the age of 24. She was diagnosed before my son, so we had some info. on symptoms and knew something was wrong right away. When someone is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, there blood sugar would be higher than the normal range.
Avatar n tn 1) Could I have REACTIVE hypoglycemia? If so, what is the best test for that? 2) Don't get hives/rash after food so my Doctor won't test for food allergies. Should I? No, I don't smoke or consume caffeine. Have normal blood pressure (more on the low side of normal), no heartburn/GERD, no anxiety/depression. I've covered the basics.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn i no longer drink unless my wife and i go to a restaurant and then i only have 1 or 2 beers and do this only once or twice a month. i find i can keep better care of my diabetes without alcohol.
