Though not a certainty, there are reports in animal studies of a possible connection between narcotic pain medications (Vicodin is one) and hypoglycemia. As you know, severe hypoglycemic reactions, like the ones you are now having, are dangerous, but it will be hard to know if Vicodin is or isn't the contributing to them without stopping it and seeing the result.

This is because there are so many factors that can contribute to hypoglycemia -- stress, hormones, activity, what foods you eat, and a myriad more.
My father was detected diabetic 11 years ago. He is 70 now. He underwent by-pass surgery last year. He had to undergo another (minor) operation 6 months after by-pass due to infection in sternum. During the gap..he was diagnosed leaned more towards hypoglycemia. So much so that insuline dose was not required during preparing him for the second operation. Even after operation he started giving symptoms of hypoglycemia.i.e. shivering, confusion etc. He was advised and treated for hypolycemia.
t know much about pre-diabetes, however, I do know that hypoglycemia is a condition, in and of itself, that requires medical treatment. I have heard that some people with hypoglycemia develop diabetes at some point in their lives, but many do not. I suffer random spells of tachycardia, & chest discomfort. Ive seen 3 cardiologists & had every test minus a heart cath(I tried to get thst, but told NO). Including: 3 stress tests, 5 holters, 3 echos, 5 ekgs & blood work 3 times since 2013. Nothing found other than mild pvcs, & tachycardia.
t touch any additional problems with hypoglycemia. So hypoglycemia probably should be ruled out so it does not complicate the issue.
If hypoglycemia is suspected, then you should try to keep some sort of juice handy and drink a small quantity if you start to feel "off" at all just so as to make sure that this is not the cause. I happen to be a tightly-controlled diabetic who occasionally does find myself hypo and I have learned to really listen to what my body is telling me.
These are due to something called covert hypoglycemia. Intensive treatment to control diabetes by certain drugs leads to hypoglycemia which may not be recognised by the body. These hypoglycemic episodes are the cause of weakness and loss of energy.

I am a juvenile diabetic. I had cataract surgery(IOL) in my left eye (25/07/2011) & on 1/9/2012 my doc said that my operated eye vision is not up to the mark & der is some internal swelling in my eye so I've to undergo through another minor surgery in which they inject some medicine in my eye. It was really hard for me to prepare myself for another eye surgery that to without any local anaesthesia. My surgeon had given me Intra-vitreal injection Avastin 1.25mg+Trilon 4mg.
This has happened once 2 years ago, I would get hungry or really hungry for that matter at work and i would get shakey internally, sometimes i'd get very warm (I have panic disorder aswell so some of these symptoms could be associated with that) As soon as I eat, 10 mins or so the shaking stops. Not all the time I can get up and go eat at work. But in the past 4 months it's happened three more times. I was just wondering if this could be hypoglycemia?
howeve,r now i have been diagnosed with diabetes tyoe ii. have i had this autonomic hypoglycemia all these years and if so is that a sign of diabetes type ii? i'm 65 years old now.

On a recent visit to my periodontal dentist, I received an injection to numb my gums for surgery. After the injection, my blood sugar level sent me into hypoglycemia and I had to have some apple sauce to bring up my blood sugar level before continuing. I have never had hypoglycemia before.
For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise.
You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.

deficient can have constant problems with hypoglycemia, especially if there is deficiency of TSH and ACTH also. My son had hypoglycemia many times before his surgery, in spite of thyroxine and hydrocortisone replacement.
In fact, the insurance co. said they were denying coverage because my son had never done a G.H. stimulation test. The stim tests force hypoglycemia on the patient to see if the pituitary gland will respond - by releasing G.H. to correct the hypoglycemia.
The other term for Reactive Hypoglycemia is postprandial hypoglycemia. It is no longer diagnosed using the glucose tolerance test due to the number of severe reactions. I hope this helps.
