hypoglycemia

1654177 tn?1319838494 Hi everybody! In the past 3 months, I wake up in the morning and my feet are numb. After I get up and walk around the numbness goes away within about 5-10 minutes. I also urinate often and get fatigues (which may be normal, plus I drink a lot of water). I seem to keep my weight down too easily these days, I eat a lot, and I only mildly exercise (walking, hiking and pilates). Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting).
1770925 tn?1365618522 I have hypoglycemia for years and I don't eat sugary foods or fried foods. I eat small meals 6 times a day. Fruit and vegetables and soy products. Just fish etc. I am just saying that small meals often is the way to go with hypoglycemia. This eating regime helps my sugar stay level and not low, but if I stress the sugar drops and ginger helps me. I am not on any medication. See your Dr for advice.
Avatar m tn so i thought i had hypoglicemia for all these years. i even told doctors and there was no test done.. howeve,r now i have been diagnosed with diabetes tyoe ii. have i had this autonomic hypoglycemia all these years and if so is that a sign of diabetes type ii? i'm 65 years old now. thanks, bigdaddy601 This discussion is related to autonomic neuropathy.
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar n tn You don't say if you have type 1 diabetes. How low does your blood sugar drop at how long after eating. Then how high does it spike? Are you on medication or insulin?
Avatar n tn The other term for Reactive Hypoglycemia is postprandial hypoglycemia. It is no longer diagnosed using the glucose tolerance test due to the number of severe reactions. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn In the past I have been told I have Reactive Hypoglycemia because I get nausea if I do not eat every 3 or 4 hours and I get headaches, sweating, dizziness, etc. that goes away if I eat. I recently moved and am having trouble finding a doctor because all of the doctors I have seen so far say it is normal for people to have nausea when they wake up. My fasting insulin results are 5 uIU/mL. My glucose numbers peak in 45 minutes at 120 mg/dL and then drop although they rarely go below 65 mg/dL.
Avatar n tn Thanks I heard that I just wondered how it affected pregnancy. My doctors office basically called me and told me I was diabetic this time I was hypoglycemic and that they would keep a close eye on me but didn't say anything else so I just wondered. And the last thing I want to do is google anything cuz its always worse case.
Avatar n tn He told me it has been that way since he was 18 (he is 34 now) and that he was told by his mom (who is not a doctor) that it is from Hypoglycemia. She assumes because she is Hypoglycemic, that he is too. She does not have black under her eyes. No matter how well he eats, the black never goes away. My questions are....First, is this where the black eye comes from? Second, should he be on medicine if he is Hypoglycemic?
Avatar n tn Though not a certainty, there are reports in animal studies of a possible connection between narcotic pain medications (Vicodin is one) and hypoglycemia. As you know, severe hypoglycemic reactions, like the ones you are now having, are dangerous, but it will be hard to know if Vicodin is or isn't the contributing to them without stopping it and seeing the result.
Avatar n tn Hi there...my name is Rena and I am the person to which sllowe was referring. I am diagnosed with MS and recently had a bit of a relapse of my paratrigeminal neuralgia which apparently is related to my MS. I was treated with IV steroids for three days and apparently this can cause hypoglycemia. I have loser's for doctors and have a hard time getting information from them.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test. I have known people with classic symptoms who surely suffer from this problem who have had negative results from glucose tolerance tests. This is because there are so many factors that can contribute to hypoglycemia -- stress, hormones, activity, what foods you eat, and a myriad more.
1835973 tn?1318617713 intravenous Rheumatoid arthritis drugs through the years all after a while have hardly any effect or relief. Just as i was giving up hope I began treatment for my hypoglycemia with a hypoglycemic diet & eating 7 tiny meals a day instead of 2 or 3 regular meals & my arthritis pain completely disappeared but the most I could keep up the food plan was for 2 months but 2 great months without any pain!
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
Avatar n tn does a fasting or glucose tolerance test need to be done to diagnose diabetes (or hypoglycemia), or is this non-fasting number sufficient to suggest there is nothing wrong? thanks.
Avatar n tn hey, My friend has Hydrocephalus and has a shunt. unfortunately, this causes her to not eat much because everything she eats makes her sick, which I'm assuming is what resulted in her also being hypoglycemic. I've read that orange juice, apple juice, and grape juice are good ways to help hypoglycemia but both of those make her sick! aside from getting IV's is there anything she can take, or eat that has a low chance of making her feel sick, but will help her hypoglycemia?
687079 tn?1230948612 what could cause reaccurent severe hypoglycemia in a type 2 diabetic who does not take any medicine or insulin and is diet controlled?
Avatar n tn t know much about pre-diabetes, however, I do know that hypoglycemia is a condition, in and of itself, that requires medical treatment. I have heard that some people with hypoglycemia develop diabetes at some point in their lives, but many do not. Hypoglycemia is a condition, according to my understanding, where your body metabolizes the sugars you eat very quickly, essentially leaving your body without the fuel it needs to run on.
Avatar f tn Chronic dizziness, fatigue, lightheadeness, nausea, extreme belching(sometimes hundreds of times a day), diagnosed last year with a rare form of hypoglycemia.. Reactive Hypoglycemia. I suffer random spells of tachycardia, & chest discomfort. Ive seen 3 cardiologists & had every test minus a heart cath(I tried to get thst, but told NO). Including: 3 stress tests, 5 holters, 3 echos, 5 ekgs & blood work 3 times since 2013. Nothing found other than mild pvcs, & tachycardia.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have reactive hypoglycemia. One of the best websites to learn about hypoglycemia is reactivehypoglycemia.net. I don't think it's possible to grow out of hypoglycemia. I'm a teenager and I've had it since I was two or so. I really wish though!!
Avatar f tn t touch any additional problems with hypoglycemia. So hypoglycemia probably should be ruled out so it does not complicate the issue. If hypoglycemia is suspected, then you should try to keep some sort of juice handy and drink a small quantity if you start to feel "off" at all just so as to make sure that this is not the cause. I happen to be a tightly-controlled diabetic who occasionally does find myself hypo and I have learned to really listen to what my body is telling me.
Avatar m tn yes, i was diagnosed with hypoglycemia of some kind, at the doctors office my blood pressure was 70/50 i felt dizzy, its always low, and my resting heart rate is 45 or so , and i do smoke which i think is wierd, i used to exercise a little, plus i also take klonopin and zoloft......
Avatar n tn Detection and diagnosis of hypoglycemia can lead to treatment that can totally correct this condition. Even if the symptoms are vague and seemingly subjective (which makes most doctors want to shy away from this diagnosis), if you're the one experiencing them, they can destroy the quality of your life." You will notice that sugar cravings is a symptom that is listed. My son had symptoms of high blood sugar for approx.
Avatar m tn I' am not a diabetic; I' am a hypoglycemic and everyday I experience fasting hypoglycemia upon waking. My morning blood glucose is between 25-30mg/dL and I always feel like crap, I only experience reactive adrenergic symptoms like, moderate hypertension, sweating, arrhythmia, headache, lightheadedness, shaking and nausea during the episode.
