Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia symptoms thirst

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
Avatar n tn The previous posting seems to be indicating that your symptoms may also be of diabetes, but this is not really the case. Symptoms for diabetes do not include shaking hands or nausea, but are the following: thirst that is noticeable, weight loss although the person may be eating a lot, fatigue (also a symptom of low glucose), frequent urination because the person is consuming lots of liquids to quench the thirst.
1055725 tn?1265869375 m just going to speak to the symptoms you are experiencing and the possibility of hypoglycemia or diabetes. Hypoglycemia is one of the symptoms of diabetes and just means low blood sugar. Some people however, have a diagnosis of just hypoglycemia, without the diabetes. That is very different. Your symptoms might relate to either one, or they might not. Some other symptoms of diabetes are increased hunger and thirst. Some people however are diabetic without experiencing any symptoms at all.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if this is true hypoglycemia or if there is some element of diabetes going on here. She was in Children's hospital as an infant and had a really heavy fluid load (going from 9lbs to 14lbs over night) due to a heart problem which is now alright. I'm wondering if there was some possible damage to her pancreas as a baby that we are just now seeing the result of and should I be worrying about these numbers.
Avatar n tn If you think you have diabetes, Dee, you might want to do some reading for yourself and more important, see your doctor for a test. But the most common symptoms are excessive thirst and urination, especially at night, feeling tired all the time and possibly weight loss and vision problems. You may also experience symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if you skip meals, which can be feeling shaky, sweating, blurry vision, and feeling cranky or "spacey".
Avatar n tn Yes, the symptoms you report do sound like hypoglycemia-low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can be experienced by both type 2's and type 1's, though severe hypoglycmia is more often associated with insulin use. You don't say what treatment(s) you are using: low carb diet, oral meds or insulin. You also don't say what your blood sugar is when you experience these symptoms. You need to test your blood sugar on a regular basis especially when you feel "off".
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. If your son has only the symtoms you describe, then hypoglycemia or diabetes are not the cause of his problems. The main reason is that Motrin is not an effective treatment for either condition. Migraines are not common with either condition, and if you aren't seeing any increased urination or thirst, or any of the other symptoms of hypoglycemia (http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.
Avatar n tn org/forums/Diabetes---Adult-Type-II/show/46 While there is some degree of variability among people, most will usually develop symptoms suggestive of hypoglycemia when blood glucose levels are lowered to the mid 60's. The first set of symptoms are called adrenergic (or sympathetic) because they relate to the nervous system's response to hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I did not give you a complete list of symptoms of hypoglycemia. Below are symptoms that can mean that your glucose is low. You may not feel all of them, and may experience only one of them.
Avatar n tn Since you have a family history of diabetes, you should have a blood test done. You could have this done at your doctor's office or since November is Diabetes Awareness Month, you may be able to find an organization doing diabetes screenings in your area. Fasting blood sugar over 126 mg/dl would be considered diabetes and fasting blood sugar between 100 and 126 mg/dl would be considered pre-diabetes.
Avatar n tn Some of the symptoms you write about are certainly typical symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I will list all the symptoms that I am aware of after 36 years of type 1 diabetes. When blood sugar gets too low, you may experience ANY of these symptoms or all of them or any combination. Furthermore, symptoms can vary greatly from one episode to another, meaning that one time you may get a headache while another time you just notice hands shaking.
Avatar n tn I HAVE A QUESTION IN REGUARD TO HYPOGLYCEMIA I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE HYPOGLYCEMIA WHEN I WAS 7 YEAR OLD. MY MOTHER TOLD ME I ALWAYS HAD THE SHAKES WHEN I WAS A BABY. IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE HAD RE OCCURING BOUTS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA AND AFTER EVERY MEAL FEEL EXCESSIVLY TIERD. I HAVE SYMPTOMS AFTER HAVING COFFEE IN THE MORNING. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT I GET A RESTLESS LEG WHEN I LAY DOWN TO GO TO BED AND FEEL VERY TIERD BUT UNABLE TO GO TO SLEEP. ALWAYS THIRSTY AND FREQUENTLY URINATE.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, your symptoms do appear to be the same symptoms as diabetes, or at least hypoglycemia. I would make an appointment with your doctor to get your blood sugar checked. If you do have diabetes, the only way to treat it is with insulin. Good luck. Hypoglycemia is slightly different, but related. Basically you just have low blood sugars, and the primary fix is primarily by diet. Good luck.
Avatar n tn If your glucose levels are running too high, usually the person shows the typical symptoms of unusual thirst and fatigue. If low, dizziness, inability to concentrate, headaches, yawning for no reason, shaking hands, irritability or depression, sleepiness, or a dry mouth or eyes can be present. I would ask my doctor to perhaps do a glucose tolerance test, which will sometimes show if a person is having hypoglycemic episodes.
Avatar n tn A simple test can give you a definate answer. Shaking is sometimes a sign of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). This is different than diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin to offset the sugar you eat. Hypoglycemia is just the opposite. It occurs when your body puts out too much insulin. Your symptoms could be any number of things. Your doctor will be able to help you more than we can here.
Avatar n tn i am wondering if everyone thinks this might be hypoglycemia, if this means i have diabetes or not necessarily, or might be something else entirely? within the past month i have had frequent awful headaches, within the past year i have developed severely dry skin, especially on my feet. is an endocrinologist the best person to consult in this situation? (i was blood tested when i was diagnosed with PCOS and had moderately low levels of HDL.) thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn Most healthy people find that their bodies fix the situation pretty quickly once the brain sends out signals for emergency sugars to be released from the liver, which would mean that the symptoms are temporary. So hypoglycemia spells could be the cause of passing out... and of course the number might be very normal when you are discovered and blood is drawn because the body has already released emergency sugars.
Avatar n tn Those are some symptoms of diabetes--the excessive thirst and hunger and when you say she cannot see do you mean blurred vision, because that could be a symptom of diabetes as well. If she is frequently urinating, that is another symptom of diabetes. I would take her to the doctor and get a fasting plasma glucose test. Getting blood work is much more accurate than getting her urine tested. You will keep worrying and wondering until you take her to the doctor and get her checked out.
Avatar n tn Other symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, excessive thirst, feeling lethargic all because your blood sugar is rising too high. Your symptoms sound as if you are maybe getting low blood sugars. Does your mother have a glucose meter? Maybe try testing your blood on it-just to give you piece of mind.
Avatar f tn Yes I think a test for sugar level wouldn't hurt him usually there are other symptoms like thirst, tiredness, light headed if the level drops, Does he take a multiple supplement that may be a good thing to try , an anti oxident Vit C and B Complex..they do some good ones for children that they like taking .I asked about school as if children are bullied or have a problem with school it may affect how they feel ,but it sounds as if thats not the problem .I would still have his eyes tested .
Avatar n tn Hi, We're not doctors, just volunteers who either have diabetes or a child with diabetes, so obviously we can't diagnose anything. But I can tell you the symptoms of diabetes are very consistent: extreme thirst, frequent urination and weight loss. That is not what you are experiencing, I take it. So I highly doubt you are diabetic.
Avatar f tn These are vague symptoms for hypoglycemia. I would see an Endocrinologist and have some bloodwork done.
