hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn A while back, last summer, I had been on a road trip from minnesota back to missouri, I hardly ate anything but a little bit of puppy chow and some cheese curds, that night while trying to unpack before eating I got really dizzy and shaky, I realize at this point it was most likely from low blood sugar due to not eating, but not every time I go for a few hours without eating when I start to feel hungry I get really shaky and anxious, do you think this is hypoglycemia developing or just associati
2154088 tn?1336592380 My dog has been having the symptoms of hypoglycemia for most of his life, which have started becoming severe lately. He has a serious food aversion from an illness he had as a puppy, so he tends to miss meals and be an extremely picky eater (an issue we are constantly working on). There are times he may go without eating much for nearly 24 hours and when this happens I give when Nutri-Cal or a product called Stat.
Avatar n tn You need to take this puppy to a vet IMMEDIATELY! We cannot diagnose anything on a message board and if we could, the description you have given us of what is wrong with your puppy is so lacking in details there is nothing we could tell you anyway, A nine week old chihuahua puppy who has not eaten or had anything to drink for two days is in grave danger of dying. It is almost a given that it is dehydrated already and probably has been since the end of the first day without anything to drink.
1743760 tn?1311413441 Yesterday my 5 week old Chihuahua puppy was lively, very active and playful, eating fine with proper bowel movements. This morning she threw up a few times and now has diarrhea and has slept all day very lethargic, except to get up and pee and poop on her pad or go get some water. Since it came on so suddenly I am under the assumption she ate something she shouldn't have. She has not vomited since this morning. Just lethargic and diarrhea.
Avatar f tn s and metabolisms they are you feeding the puppy a very high fat diet. Puppy kibble should be very fatty you want them eating all the time and the high fat foods even if they get a little pudgy it's all good because at about 10 months old you switch them to the adolescent formula and they lose all the baby weight. Either way you should see a vet shots are very important and the puppy should be fixed soon. Let us know how he is.
Avatar f tn Hi, the day after I brought home a then 6 week old puppy she had a seizure. I took her to the vet the next day, did bloodwork and all that came back was some anemia and low protein (hypoalbuminemia). She is a happy pup, eating and drinking, no vomiting or or diarrhea. She did have tapes and I had her dewormed. We thought the funky labs and seizure may have been caused by hypoglycemia from the tapes.
482907 tn?1208416453 We gave one to a neighbor and a few weeks after we gave the puppy to her, she said the puppy was getting sick. We had already given puppy his parvo vaccinations, so we were pretty sure that it wasn't parvo. Anyways, the neighbor started giving puppy penicillin and another antibiotic, and she was giving it to him about two times a day for almost 2 weeks. Also the puppy was getting fed with a big dog and we are pretty sure he wasn't getting hardly anything to eat.
Avatar m tn I am glad to hear that your puppy is feeling better. One thing to keep in mind though,Is if a puppy goes to long without food he can get develop Hypoglycemia...(Low blood sugar).Sometimes it can be due from stress .It is usually seen in puppies between the ages of 6-12weeks.Usually it is outgrown.I try to keep some Caro syrup on hand just in case. Please let us know how his vet visit goes.Take care.
Avatar m tn My puppy was sleeping and during her sleep she started breathing weird. I tried moving her so she would wake up and she didn't wake. I tried picking her up and calling her and she would not move, she felt lifeless. I shook her a bit and she still didn't move. After a few seconds she woke and snapped out of it. A few days before this she sat down and didn't move at all she just stared at me and looked very dizzy like she was going to pass out.
Avatar f tn Hello & welcome......First of all, this puppy is too young to be away from it's mother.....That's my first clue that she came from a bad breeding practice....(And could have many things wrong with her). Have you taken her to your Vet for a checkup, since you got her? You need to have her evaluated....Puppies can get very sick quickly and dehydration (From no food or water) can kill them even quicker...
Avatar f tn I have a 6mth old Chihuahua puppy that's has been having episodes where he starts yelping and then goes stiff then limp and for a split second stops breathing. Afterwards he seems as if he is extremely week and lays there, when he tries to lift his head he is really shaky. After bout a min or so he is fine and just wants alot of water. I have heard of Chihuahua's have hypoglycemia and seizures. But when i have looked up the symptoms of them both these do not match.
543578 tn?1214412007 I have a 2 1/2 year old male Reindeer Chihuahua, and a few weeks ago while my friend was puppy sitting and called me and said to come home that he thinks Buster (my dog) is having a seizure. So of course I came home and he seemed fine. I asked what happened he said that Buster just started to shake and making this weird face and his mouth was like distorted and he started foaming at the mouth then it was over.
Avatar f tn We rescued our male puppy about two months ago. He is about four months old. About two weeks ago he went blind one evening. Was very restless and confused. We took him to the vet and they put him under rabies observation. About two days of being at the vet he was all better. He could see again and eating normal and being a regular puppy. So we brought him home. Then about three days later it happened again. Again in the evening. This time his mouth was hanging open and he was drooling.
473883 tn?1322853038 Oh that poor puppy. Something was seriously wrong and I'm glad she is no longer suffering. If the other pups appear to be eating and elimating normally, they should be OK. However, I have to recommend that you get a veterinarian's advice. Both the mom and the pups should be examined post-partum anyway. Don't forget to make certain the mom has a high quality food and vitamin supplements.
Avatar n tn You need to get her to either an Emergency Center tonight or your Vet first thing tomorrow morning......You may have waited too long....A tiny Chi (Especially a puppy) cannot go without nourishment for this long....Without food, tiny dogs can go into hypoglycemic shock....Plus, the diarrhea you speak of in your other post will cause dehydration....Dehydration alone can be deadly....Do not force feed her, but you need to get liquids in her till you can get her to a Vet.....
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having hypoglycemia (which is low blood sugar abt an hr or 2 after meals)? I'm 26wks and been having it for around a week now.How do u usually deal with it when it strikes?
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar n tn 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn (I think he was embarassed to call and say I was having leg cramps). I told him this was something more than just leg cramps. The hypoglycemia episode followed by SEVERE leg cramps and then nausea concerns me. I have hypoglycemia episodes once or twice a week but do try and control the with diet and excercise. Sometimes I really do not know why they come, yesterday was one of those instances. I have NEVER had any sort of cramps or nausea following an episode. Is this normal? Common?
2088051 tn?1334542007 So I Was Diagnosed With Hypoglycemia When I Was 15.. I'm 18 Now. It Seems Like It's Gotten Worse As I've Gotten Older. I'll Eat.. Then Not Even An Hour Later, I'll Start Shaking. This Stuff Is Horrible. I Just Need To Know If It's Because I'm Not Eating Enough Or It's Because Of The Food I Eat. Help!
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar f tn I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
