Hypoglycemia numbers

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia numbers

hypoglycemia

Avatar m tn There is a lot of noise on the internet regarding what are the 'Normal Numbers'. I believe oficial ADA numbers are < 100 for fasting, <140 1hr after meal and <120 two or more hours after meal. But then many articles say 'True Normal Numbers' are < 83 fasting and always < 100. What do they mean by 'True Normal Numbers'? Also are these averages or absolute maximums?
Avatar n tn I was getting nauseated. I was BEGGING him to call 911. I got the phone and put the numbers in but could not stop screaming to call. Again, he refused to call for me. (I think he was embarassed to call and say I was having leg cramps). I told him this was something more than just leg cramps. The hypoglycemia episode followed by SEVERE leg cramps and then nausea concerns me. I have hypoglycemia episodes once or twice a week but do try and control the with diet and excercise.
Avatar n tn This could possibly be a condition known as Hypoglycemia and is definitely worth asking your doctor about. Hypoglycemia occurs around two hours after a high carb meal. The pancreas over secretes insulin due to the rapid rise in the blood sugar and then the low blood sugar results. I would definitely have this studied further. Have a wonderful day.
Avatar n tn 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me. I had a stress test done and it was normal so I have no heart troubles, but I was also diagnosed with acid reflux. I've exercised all of my life, why would my blood sugars start dropping all of a sudden? Fasting it's always normal 85-92.........
Avatar n tn His fasting blood was 88, his next count after drinking the sugary liquid was 102, his next two were 69 and 61. It seems like he has hypoglycemia. He was told he has pre-diabetes and given a prescription for metformin 500 mg to take once a day for a week and to increase by a pill a day/week until he would be taking 4 pills/day within a month. Everything I have read says that this is given for high blood sugar. He is also very underweight.
Avatar f tn i am sure the hypoglycemia was a symptom of the thyroid condition because when my numbers are better i have no hypoglycemia but when i start having hypoglycemia i know its time for my t3 meds.
Avatar n tn NPH insulin has very definite peaks and a peak while he is sleeping is of dangerous if he is not digesting food to cover the insulin. I myself used to have lows when sleeping often enough to frighten me and my husband when I was taking NPH. I switched to taking a 24-hour insulin called Lantus, and this solved the problem for me. So if he is not interested in switching to a pump, beautiful control without severe lows can be acheived with this newer-than-NPH insulin.
Avatar n tn We are not doctors here, and any expertise that we can claim is with type 1, not type 2 diabetics, so you may want to go to the American Diabetes Association's website at www.ada.com for more information about type 2 diabetes. But I will offer some comments here... Type 1 diabetics have an autoimmune disorder that causes their bodies' immune systems to attack and kill off their pancreas insulin-producing cells, but type 2 diabetics have working pancreas organs.
Avatar n tn org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20373685 There is something called reactive hypoglycemia. In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar f tn i wake up in the middle of the night and drink 3 cups of water.the dr said i was hypoglycemia but my blood numbers are way off the wall.between 200 and 90s and 70s. then they said i had vasovagal. notthing seems to help me when i get dizzy i lay down (sometimes it takes hours)but the minute i sit up it comes back. it feels like i am in a car thats spinning it is really scary.i had ekgs mris cat scans. nothing shows up. besides the ekg and i have a fast heart rate and slow brain movement.
Avatar m tn I suffer from hypoglycemia, and from my experience the first way to detect it is through getting a meter from the doctor. When I went to the doctor about my symptoms, she gave me a meter for free, and a few strips (the strips are where they get you) I took my blood sugar when I wasn't feeling well and it was very low, confirming the diagnosis. At this point there isn't much medically that can be done.
Avatar f tn Does anyone get just awful stress/anxiety and hypoglycemia symptoms from your thryoid problem? Or could it be adrenal? I wake up so light headed (I do take 15 mg Dalmane - sometimes 30 mg). But right now if I don't get up in the middle of night and eat something, feels like my blood sugar is off even with numbers in the 70s. I am having a hard time figuring out whether to wait until I see my endo again, or go to my internist.
Avatar f tn What is the best, cheapest and most available treatments for hep c, and from your experience how bad off are you if the virus is affecting your blood sugar?
Avatar n tn I have been monitoring my glucose levels for a few days now and was wondering when to go to my doctor. A little history. I am high risk for type II based on family history, two pregnancies with gestational diabetes and I am about 50 lbs overweight. I was also diagnosed with hypoglycemia at 16 (I'm now 32) On Monday I was feeling foggy, trembly and weak so I decided to check my glucose to see how low I was. I was actually at 187.
Avatar f tn I am 29 yrs old and I have had occasional ( once or twice a week ) lower right side pain and hypoglycemia issues my entire life. When I was in my early 20s I began having anxiety attacks on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Medication has lessened the attacks but I still have them once or twice a month. I have developed a bit of a theory that maybe the side pain, low blood sugar and panic attacks may somehow be related?
Avatar f tn Take the time to Google and learn about Hypoglycemia and also LADA [Latent Autoimmune Disease in Adults] which is a type of Hypoglycemia and often misdiagnosed as Hyperglycemia. Good luck.
Avatar n tn At about this level, all of the things you described MIGHT be explained by hypoglycemia. Sometimes when hypo, my stomach gets very upset, sometimes not. And muscle cramps can happen because of being low, too. Mood swings are another symptom... your suicidal thoughts could be an extreme reaction to the depression that can hit when hypoglycemic. As for any connection to the heat exhaustion episode, we can't tell you.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your question. Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar can indeed result in a headache and sometimes severe. https://www.migrainetrust.org/about-migraine/trigger-factors/hypoglycaemia/ You may find this treatment guide helpful as well. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373689. Are you having trouble managing your type 1 diabetes? I would talk to your doctor about how to keep your range at as consistent of a level as possible.
Avatar n tn In the past I have been told I have Reactive Hypoglycemia because I get nausea if I do not eat every 3 or 4 hours and I get headaches, sweating, dizziness, etc. that goes away if I eat. I recently moved and am having trouble finding a doctor because all of the doctors I have seen so far say it is normal for people to have nausea when they wake up. My fasting insulin results are 5 uIU/mL. My glucose numbers peak in 45 minutes at 120 mg/dL and then drop although they rarely go below 65 mg/dL.
Avatar n tn Strange thing is I ran across my old questions in this forum while doing a search, and My numbers were high during this stage of my pregnancy, but by the time I had my test at 28 weeks, they were very normal for the 1 hr glucose. No 3 hour was ever done. My first test during my last pregnancy was at 9 weeks which was normal. I can't help but think that maybe something goes on in the beginning of the second trimester that affects sugar levels.
Avatar n tn If you eat lower carb / avoid sugars, you may find you can also achieve lower post eating numbers. It will be best to have numbers as close to non-diabetic as you can safely achieve.
Avatar f tn m currently on 100mcg synthyroid and 15mcg Cytomel for almost 6 weeks (New) and been having issues with hypoglycemia issues after eating dinner (roughly hour or 2)after eating JUST after dinner not during the day. I've been trimming back calories mostly Carbs not a lot but eliminating bread, pasta and sweets and so far I've had not lost weight but it's the first time I haven't gained weight.
Avatar m tn i am 27 years old now and was diagnosed with hypoglycemia at age 4. it has been a significant problem from then on until my second child was born a year ago. ive monitered my glucose levels randomly and they had never gone above 114 until my second pregnancy when they started spiking. i have been tested negative for diabetes, and they hypoglycemia seemed to have diapeared after the second pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia does manifest with the symptoms you've mentioned. What a person will present with regarding symptoms depends on their glucose baseline. If her fasting is 110, 80 could be very low for her. When these symptoms present, check her glucose if you have a glucometer at home. If you see that she is low, give her crackers (grahams are great) and a glass of orange juice. But please start keeping a log/diary of when these symptoms occur. A food journal would also be beneficial.
Avatar n tn Fist thing in the morning my sugar is low most the time never gets above 115 after eating but for the last two days my numbers have been 135. My doctor never told me what my range should be only to check it and eat something if it's below 60, any input??
