hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Sometimes even just below 80, I can experience symptoms of hypoglycemia. I believe this is usually when my levels are on the way down, dropping quickly. And exercise can cause levels to drop for over a day after the exercise... sometimes as long as 2 days.
1662361 tn?1302762372 I have noticed lately tho when I test because my mom and grandma are diabetic that my sugar levels are from 50 to maybe 75 no matter what I eat. I snack on granola and some times hard candy and sometimes cookies. I just feel sick all the time, and dizzy and i get really shaky and, Nothing I have been doing is working. I Have noticed my stomach hurting alot and i went to the dr for that and I had a Bactria infection. A friend told me that I could have an ulcer or it could be my sugar levels.
Avatar f tn His symptoms do sound suspiciously like hypoglycemia. All of the things you mentioned are symptoms that can appear when glucose is low. The test that we recommend in the United States to check for hypoglycemia is a glucose tolerance test. I suspect from some of the foods you are listing that you do not live in the United States, so I don't know what this test would be called in your country.
Avatar n tn lately my blood sugar levels have been dropping low then spiking after i eat, which is making me vomit, is this hypoglycemia, or something different?
Avatar n tn I do think that you can feel it when your glucose levels are perhaps normal but are in the process of dropping quickly. In my case, I trust my symptoms and treat it as if I am low even if the number is normal. You probably want to do the same. The symptoms are pretty unmistakeable when you know what to look for. It sounds as if you have nailed the symptoms down well. I truly swear by small 6-oz cans of juice.
2088051 tn?1334542007 Yes, as sally mentioned, by all means get a home glucose test meter and test, test, test to learn when your glucose drops below normal levels. Carbs are your worst enemy. After a high carbohydrate meal your blood sugar increases which forces your pancreas to produce more insulin. This in turn may cause a hypoglycemic episode. It's probably in your best interest to carry glucose tablets and/or hard candy to combat the lows. G-tablets can be purchased at most drug stores OTC.
Avatar f tn i am sure the hypoglycemia was a symptom of the thyroid condition because when my numbers are better i have no hypoglycemia but when i start having hypoglycemia i know its time for my t3 meds.
6918915 tn?1395932871 pasta etc As these will sustain your energy levels for long and are richer in nutrients. Kiwis are great for when you feel like that or jam on toast. I know the feeling though it's horrible like your going to faint. Eat lots of nuts..and dried apricots are good as they are rich in iron which will give you more energy.
Avatar f tn I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly. Due to this it was decided that I would take the medication only once per day instead of twice.
Avatar n tn In situations of pre-diabetes, we often hear that people have bouts of hypoglycemia. This happens when the glucose levels start to rise too much and the person's body over-compensates by producing too much insulin. Many hypoglycemic folks eventually do end up being diabetic after the pancreas wears itself out and is no longer able to lower those glucose levels. Most doctors recommend a diet fairly low in carbohydrates to avoid stimulating the already over-active pancreas.
Avatar n tn In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar m tn I posted the answer originally and now am wondering if you are perhaps NOT a diabetic at all, but perhaps have come to this web site seeking to find out what the normal ranges of glucose are. Your question about hypoglycemia leads me to wonder if you have a glucometer at all. If not, then you cannot check for hypoglycemia yourself, so your questions are smart ones. I do apologize if I misunderstoon originally and thought that I was answering a diabetic who was taking the medication Elavil.
Avatar f tn These are vague symptoms for hypoglycemia. I would see an Endocrinologist and have some bloodwork done.
Avatar n tn They are absolutely wrong in saying that hypoglycemia cannot cause seizures. A very severe low like the one your son had CAN indeed cause seizures. And those seizures stop as soon as the blood sugar levels are normalized. Usually, some twitching of muscles, sometimes shaking hands, sometimes twitch to face, happens first, so watch for those symptoms. I would suggest that you look very carefully at his diet, avoiding all high-glycemic index foods and caffeine.
Avatar n tn ve done a little research on pancreatic tumors, as they relate to hypoglycemia, and below are excerpts from a couple of websites, which I would encorage you to look at: http://endocrine.niddk.nih.gov/pubs/men1/men1.htm "Occasionally, a person who has MEN1 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1) develops an islet tumor of the pancreas which secretes high levels of pancreatic hormones other than gastrin.
Avatar f tn t understand the reason people get hypoglycemia. I read online is when diabetic people are taking their medications their sugar level go very low sometimes it can cause Hypoglycemia episodes. Is there any other reason why I would have hypoglycemia if I don't have diabetes? Also is there a high chance that hypoglycemia can turn to diabetes?
1654177 tn?1319838494 Hi everybody! In the past 3 months, I wake up in the morning and my feet are numb. After I get up and walk around the numbness goes away within about 5-10 minutes. I also urinate often and get fatigues (which may be normal, plus I drink a lot of water). I seem to keep my weight down too easily these days, I eat a lot, and I only mildly exercise (walking, hiking and pilates). Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting).
Avatar f tn I have been recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, i guess about 2 months now. During the summer I continued to run cross country, and after about 2 weeks I figured out how to keep my levels up enough for practice. Now that school has started my whole routine has changed. I've changed from practicing at 7 in the mornign to 3:45 in the afternoon, and first I couldn't practice, but then I got the hang of it and my levels were conrolled.
Avatar f tn I took my 1 hour Blood Glucose test over a week ago and I got the results back and I failed. I believe average is 69-139 and my levels were a 159. What are the chances that I can pass my 3 hour fasting blood glucose test? Diabetes runs in the family and I'm kind of worried?
649848 tn?1534633700 56 L Over the past 5 years, my fasting glucose levels have ranged from around 97 or 98 all the way up to 125, but never over 125. My A1c has ranged from 5.5 to 5.8 over the same period and my doctor has said I'm pre-diabetic. Insulin levels have only been measured a couple of times. The last time it was measured blood glucose was 125, with insulin at 8.1. Blood glucose was considered to be in pre-diabetic range, while insulin level was considered to be normal.
Avatar n tn Your body was probably using those carbs as fast as they were digesting after the treadmill workout. I notice that if my glucose levels are dropping quickly, I feel horrid, even before they reach the "abnormally low" numbers. Maybe you were just feeling the drop since it was happening quickly.
Avatar n tn can you tell me which lab tests I should be sure to get for a thorough evaluation? Do I need things such as insulin levels, cortisol, etc.? Are there other tests outside the lab I would need to be sure something serious isn't wrong with me? And, I know you can't diagnose me over the internet, but what do you think is wrong with me? What does your gut tell you? Also, any weight loss advice with my symptoms? Thank you.
