Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia hypothyroidism

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn i am sure the hypoglycemia was a symptom of the thyroid condition because when my numbers are better i have no hypoglycemia but when i start having hypoglycemia i know its time for my t3 meds.
Avatar n tn I am a 41 year old female that has hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia and am trying to lose some weight, about 10 to 15 pounds. I take meds for my thyroid, watch what I eat and exercise 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hrs a day 5 times a week. I've tried following a low blood sugar diet and was able to lose about 4-5 lbs the first week, but for the next 5 weeks I lost nothing. This last week I went off the diet slightly and gained 2-3 lbs. back. Am I eating the wrong things?
1662361 tn?1302762372 To help treat hypoglycemia is to minimize the length of time between meals (5-6 small meals a day). It is recommended not to eat too much carbohydrate per meal and actually eat more protein to help the blood sugar not to decrease rapidly, plus eat a variety of health foods. Suggest consuming 1800 calories per day spread between the 5-6 small meals. That will help you lose weight, control hypoglycemia, and feel better. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar n tn You need to get examined to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension (fall in blood pressure, cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD or gastric reflux, and internal ear infections. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn t want to freak you out with my next statement because it might not apply, but I have read that reactive hypoglycemia *can be* associated with hypothyroidism and adrenal issues. In my case, I think it could be that my hypothyroidism is being undertreated. Hope this helps some.
Avatar f tn 2 and the very low end of normal is 4.5. Is this considered hypothyroidism? The results were sent to my endocrinologist (whom I just started seeing) but I have not heard back from him yet. His diagnosis (before the test) was he did not think it was thyroid related and just low blood sugar and vitamin deficiency. I guess I just want to know if I am considered hypo based on the test results. If anyone could let me know that would be great! Thanks!!!

Avatar n tn I had Hypothyroidism for an unknown time before I was diagnosed about six Mo. ago. I began taking Levothyroxin 75mg. Is it possible that this my have caused an arrythmia that has just arisen in the past few weeks?
Avatar n tn My daughter is 4 yrs old (adopted w/no Birth Family info) a year ago she had a "episode". She woke up and was very lathergic and she would fall over like a drunk her legs would not support her and ahe was not responsive just not her self. we gave her some juice and 20 min later she was fine. I took her to the dr and he said if it happened again to bring her in. 6 months later she had another spell in the morning same thing happened after a very long hard day of playing.
Avatar f tn Does anyone get just awful stress/anxiety and hypoglycemia symptoms from your thryoid problem? Or could it be adrenal? I wake up so light headed (I do take 15 mg Dalmane - sometimes 30 mg). But right now if I don't get up in the middle of night and eat something, feels like my blood sugar is off even with numbers in the 70s. I am having a hard time figuring out whether to wait until I see my endo again, or go to my internist.
Avatar f tn I am worried that he has some underlying problem that may be connected to his hypothyroidism or hypoglycemia and recently I found out that levothroid can cause serious side effects like chest pains. What should we do? Do we get a second opinion? Do we insist on a stress test (which wasn't performed in the hospital) Should we have them check his glucose levels (I have checked them here at home because sometimes he starts feeling "doped up" and dizzy so I check the levels here).

Avatar n tn reactive (postprandial, or after meals) and fasting (postabsorptive). Reactive hypoglycemia is not usually related to any underlying disease; fasting hypoglycemia often is. I won't go into them for its another whole subject. If it were me with TSH level as yours, I would not want to be treated and take pills.
Avatar f tn hypothyroidism is known for having hypoglycemia so yeah i would say that alcohol will be very bad for hypothyroid patients as it probably could cause a coma so be careful and speak to your doctor about it before going overboard
Avatar f tn What type of hypoglycemic issues are you having? Could the symptoms be those of hypothyroidism instead? With the drop in dosage, your Free T4 went from 51% of range to 39% of range. It's recommended that FT4 be maintained at the midrange point, so you're quite a bit short there. In addition, it's recommended that Free T3 be maintained in the upper half to upper third of its range; your latest Free T3 is only at 41% or range.
Avatar m tn My wife had a crainiotomy to remove and optic chiasm meningioma about a year ago. She is still fighting hypothyroidism due to the fact that the tumor was pressing on her pituitary gland. Since synthroid hasn't helped we recently went to a doctor that has prescribed armour thyroid. Any comments? Any negative reaction we should look for or expect? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Dehydration, certain medications, heart problems, untreated diabetes, and nervous system disorders can all cause hypotension or low blood pressure. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Addisons’ disease, hypoglycemia, VitB12 and folate deficiency can also cause hypotension. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
787406 tn?1339203183 I am currently have a diagnosis of UCTD, Raynauds, livedo reticularis, abnormal EEG-foal of other left and right temporal lobe, hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism after thyroid cancer, osteopenia, ocular migraines without headache.
Avatar n tn Various metabolic causes can also cause giddiness like hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism, anemia, panic attacks. Your neurologist should rule out cervical spondylosis, rheumatoid arthritis, alcoholism, and as a side effect to various antihypertensive and anti arrhythmic. You need to be checked for ischemic heart disease, a detailed evaluation for cerebrovascular disease and other possible etiologies.
Avatar m tn The symptoms can be due to acidity with H. pylori infection, hypothyroidism, hypoglycemia, low iron, or due to hormonal imbalance of PCOD. Since she has temperature fluctuations the first things to be ruled out are thyroid disorders, adrenal gland problems, anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, liver diseases, low Vit B12, and vasovagal attacks.
358971 tn?1330888975 does this mean that maybe all my weight issues are b/c of the hypothyroidism i have? (he upped my dose on Synthroid too). Also, I'm trying to understand this LH and FSH thing. My LH was 36, and my FSH was like, 6.2 or something (i'll have to check for clarification but it was around six something). So he said this was definitely an indication of PCOS. What I don't understand is, if my LH is so high compared to my FSH, why am i NOT getting a positive OPK?????? And....
Avatar n tn Some cancers, like lymphoma, hormone disorders like carcinoid syndrome and hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) and some neurologic conditions like strokes, autonomic neuropathy, and post-traumatic syringomyelia can also cause night sweats. Medications like aspirin, acetaminophen, niacin, tamoxifen, Viagra and antidepressants are often linked to night sweats.
