Hypoglycemia causes epilepsy

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia causes epilepsy

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn many infectious diseases including Lyme disease, endocrine disorders, hypoglycemia, toxins, parasites, cancers, and many more. Some seizures can cause damage to the brain, hyperthermia (which can effect all organs of the body), can cause additional trauma, can cause cardiovascular abnormalities (abnormal heart function). If the seizure is due to an insulinoma, for example, the hypoglycemia that the insulinoma causes can be life threatening, if untreated.
769013 tn?1234938239 It could be a neurological problem, but you need to have some blood tests done to rule out other causes. Adrenal caused hypoglycemia is not uncommon.
Avatar n tn The other term for Reactive Hypoglycemia is postprandial hypoglycemia. It is no longer diagnosed using the glucose tolerance test due to the number of severe reactions. I hope this helps.
2154088 tn?1336592380 My dog has been having the symptoms of hypoglycemia for most of his life, which have started becoming severe lately. He has a serious food aversion from an illness he had as a puppy, so he tends to miss meals and be an extremely picky eater (an issue we are constantly working on). There are times he may go without eating much for nearly 24 hours and when this happens I give when Nutri-Cal or a product called Stat.
Avatar n tn s symptoms which began recently could be diabetes. Initially I thought of epilepsy but now not so sure. He had an inital seizure a few weeks ago after a night with no sleep. He said he felt weird, his eyes rolled back and he began to convulse. Not sure how long that lasted. Since then he has been fine till yesterday and today he has said he felt dizzy and thought he may be going to have a seizure again. Today he said he felt "drunk" and then he ate his sandwich and he was ok.
Avatar n tn The flashing lights are called scintillating scotomas and are most commonly cause by migraines. Other less common causes are hypoglycemia or anxiety induced catecholamine secretion, epilepsy and other neurological disorders. See your family Doctor for evaluation and if necessary for a referral to the proper specialist.
Avatar n tn The worst part is sometimes the headache gets very bad and I get sudden sharp pains in one side of my temples. This can happen several times over an hour or two. It is so bad it causes me to jump in shock and I cannot do anything while it is happening it is so intense. It is enough to make me cry sometimes and it makes me feel like something is terribly wrong. One time for about a month dizziness enough to make me fall over seemed to replace the sharp pains but not the whole headache.
328381 tn?1269364102 primary and acquired. Primary epilepsy is the most common form of seizure activity and is directly related to the abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Acquired epilepsy is a result of damage to the brain from previous infections, trauma, or brain development that occurs at some point in the pet’s life. When a pet has a seizure, it is common that veterinarian’s, upon examination, will find a pet to be normal.
Avatar f tn See a doctor to rule out hypoglycemia. Severe hypoglycemia can cause seizures. So can diabetes. The weird taste in her mouth may be ketoacidosis.Your daughter should get checked for these sort of insulin/blood sugar-related disorders, as well as epilepsy to see whether they are co-morbid, or only epilepsy or something else entirely.
Avatar m tn I dont know too much about epilepsy except for its diagnosed using an eeg test..but u said she has epilepsy so finding out an effective way to treat it is the issue. I have been doing a lot of research as I feel that I have some amount of nerve damage in my head after injury eventhough my mri was clean except for what they called a small cyst in the frontal lobe of my brain...
Avatar f tn I have a 6mth old Chihuahua puppy that's has been having episodes where he starts yelping and then goes stiff then limp and for a split second stops breathing. Afterwards he seems as if he is extremely week and lays there, when he tries to lift his head he is really shaky. After bout a min or so he is fine and just wants alot of water. I have heard of Chihuahua's have hypoglycemia and seizures. But when i have looked up the symptoms of them both these do not match.
757137 tn?1347196453 I have long believed that most alcoholism was not a psychological problem, but a physical one related to hypoglycemia. Some years ago I had occasion to test my theory on a friend of mine who had become an alcoholic. She had all the signs of a hypoglycemic, the most notable being sugar cravings. (She was, by the way, very slender.) She told me she went on her biggest binges when she got out of rehab. I found out that in rehab they replace alcohol with lots of sugary foods.
Avatar m tn If the whole body is jerking then it could be epilepsy. A normal EEG does not rule out epilepsy. It is then diagnosed by watching the patient’s response to anti- epileptics. Another possibility is that cerebellum portion of the brain is involved. Spinal compression very high up close to cerebellum is another possibility. Tremors/jerking are often associated with drugs, alcohol, smoking, lack of sleep, stress and fatigue.
Avatar f tn If so, this is strongly associated with epilepsy. My advice would be to speak to your doctor, get your blood pressure checked and he or she might arrange an EEG (a trace which monitors the electrical activity of the brain) to see if there are any abnormalities. Hope this helped.

Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
Avatar f tn And you explanation of how gluten sensitivity affects vitamin B6 and subsequently causes hypoglycemia, is also appropriate. Glucose is essential for the neurons as their nutrition. If the nerve cells do not get glucose even for a short period, they start functioning differently. There are abnormal signals created and it may lead to seizures. I hope the gluten free diet will help your child grow out of the seizures.
Avatar f tn At times back and neck problems may persist for years before they really start giving trouble. Chances of TMJ too should be looked into. Other causes are anemia, hypoglycemia or low sugar and some endocrine problems, such as an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), and in some cases, diabetes, may lead to hypotension and hence lightheadedness and an off balance feeling.
