hypoglycemia

Avatar m tn If you are having a lot of hypoglycemia you need to talk to your doctor and reduce your insulin doses and also learn to carb count, figure out an Insulin:carb ratio to match your Novo Rapid doses to what you eat.

Avatar n tn However, in someone who has a shunt and on examination and history there is no evidence of shunt problems, and if the hydrocephalus is under control, then a feeling of sickness with eating is not expected, and a search for other causes (gasteroenterologic, GI, causes) is necessary. Any food or liquids that contain sugar (that is broken down to glucose) is helpful in preventing or treating low blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms of headaches, shakes and lightheadedness sound like hypoglycemia, which is LOW blood sugar. Other symptoms would be if you get hot and break out in a sweat, find yourself feeling confused or perhaps depressed or irritable, or find yourself yawning for no reason. This can happen to people when they have not eaten in a long time or if they eat something that has a lot of quickly digested carbohydrates that cause the pancreas to be stimulated too much.
787406 tn?1339203183 I have hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid and also have autonomic dysfunction and newly-diagnosed polyneuropathy. It is thought my neuropathy is from the autoimmune thyroid. You would need to get a muscle/nerve conduction test to verify if you have neuropathy which will test for the type which is large fiber. Small fiber can only be tested in certain labs with the ability to do the QSART test. There are over 100 types of neuropathy and the tx depends on the cause.
Avatar f tn This can be due to overproduction of insulin, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland, liver and kidney disease, and certain medications. The way to begin to treat your hypoglycemia is to work with your doctor to find the underlying cause. Treating the cause will help to treat the hypoglycemia. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Alcohol use also will diminish your awareness of the symptoms of hypoglycemia so you may not know your glucose levels are dropping. And if you pass out while out with friends, their reaction will be to leave you to "sleep it off" not knowing that severe hypoglcyemia can kill you or do lasting brain damage. Again, both of these increase your risks.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test. I have known people with classic symptoms who surely suffer from this problem who have had negative results from glucose tolerance tests. This is because there are so many factors that can contribute to hypoglycemia -- stress, hormones, activity, what foods you eat, and a myriad more.
757137 tn?1347196453 I think this has served it's purpose. If the intent was to just inform people of a possible link, then that's accomplished. People can read it and decide for themselves. I think it's important to note that there is no cure for addiction, and that we shouldn't imply that treating hypoglycemia will cure addiction. So this thread is closed. No more posts, please.
8485484 tn?1408936473 Shaking The urge for food or hunger causes a pregnant female to tremble and shake (generally her hands), which is one of the main symptoms of a hypoglycemic reaction. Lightheadedness It often happens that lack of blood supply to the brain and heart during pregnancy leads to weakness, dizziness, confusion, and thus lightheadedness. Anxiety Anxiety is a common major symptom observed during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn So it went to 160 for a short time. We do know from studys and lab work that any BG over 140 causes damage to nerves and capillaries. Now most diabetics are higher at one hour and drop by hour 2. I have NO idea why the medical community is so stuck on 2 hours. the ONLY thing that test will show you is that you have some function left in the pancreas. So many diabetics have a 2 hour that is under 120 but the Peek BG that happens much sooner than 2 hours is much higher than 120.
Avatar f tn I have hep c and recently diagnosed woith hypoglycemia im very scared what will happen to me TY KRISTINE SMITH
Avatar n tn I think she must do a complete study of possible causes of hypoglycemia, there are some other endocrine deficiencies, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland that can result in a deficiency of key hormones that regulate glucose production. I would recommend her to do much more tests (when the glycemia is low) to find out (exclude) the causes (ex. of some tests: insulin , C peptide, cortisol, ethanol, Hemoglobin A1c ....) .
Avatar n tn Those first fiew years went quite smoothly. Then he got the pump and went off to college. I think he may have started a little rebellion at this point. He started guessing at his BS and would give too much insulin.... anyway, he now has hypoglycemic unawareness. It happens a lot during the night. He s doing a lot better about taking his BS more often but he is possibly still approximating the carb counts ( I think that may be where he is messing up occasionally).
Avatar m tn I visited emergency 5 times immediately but they could detect hypoglycemia. Diamicron and Metformin still harming. My family physian, Zuzana gross, sent me to heart specialist. But found nothing, After two months she stopped Metformin and dia micron. I was feeling little better, Now sugar wnt high, 10 to 16 MMOL. She could not not give any medicine lower sugar. Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
Avatar n tn I was on the verge of collapse and quickly drank a 12 oz soda and some orange juice. My sugar then shot up to 145 and although shakey I felt a lot better. 30 more minutes rolled around, I ate rice and chicken, and in the middle of my meal I began feeling lightheaded again...sugar had dropped back to 52, so I drank another soda.
Avatar n tn I posted a similiar question not long ago about tremors and trembling coz I get them a lot. I have thyroid problems, menopause, and sjogren's syndrome, but I'm not sure which causes the tremors. But I do no they are definately caused by these hormone disorders.
Avatar f tn Sometimes babies of mothers with gestational diabetes develop low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) shortly after birth because their own insulin production is high. Severe episodes of hypoglycemia may provoke seizures in the baby. Prompt feedings and sometimes an intravenous glucose solution can return the baby's blood sugar level to normal. Jaundice.
Avatar n tn When you start to grow a little, you start to reflect on things that are fleeting and pass you by, showing you the impermanent and quickness of living and consciousness as we know it.
4915340 tn?1360965940 Hi All, For the past four months I have been battling a medical mystery - severe fatigue, low body temperature, headaches, high blood pressure, and assorted back and body pains; previous to Oct 22, 2012, my BP had historically been 110-120/80 and I never had headaches. I was a rock-solid 98.6 body temp previously but now average about 96.3. I've gained over 15 pounds as well.
Avatar n tn I know it can be expensive, but for me it has made the difference between being defeated by complications and other issues, and regaining my strength to go on and live a mostly normal and fulfilling life.
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar n tn Hello you may have hypoglycemia-low blood sugar. Try eating some peanut butter crackers and juice or regular cola next time the symptoms start to see if it helps. If you can eat 6 small meals a day it will probably stop your symptoms all together.
