Avatar f tn Has anyone ever experienced, or a loved one experienced cirrhosis and lactic acidosis?
Avatar f tn For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.
Avatar n tn I was told that I have cirrhosis by an Internist who was treating my hypoglycemia in Nov. of 09, and now these masses? The first test was only an ultrasound, the second was a C/T. I am on SSI with only Medicare. My primary is a P.A. at a Rural Health Clinic. I have also fallen through the cracks. Also, I found out myself, that my pH is LOW. Under 7 in fact. I almost suspect metobolic acidosis, or diabetic acidosis, but I (again) digress! Sorry.
Avatar n tn In your case since they have been troubling you for more than two years, you should look at other causes of Phrenic nerve irritation like metabolic disturbances as in diabetes, smoking, alcohol intake and acidosis of kidney origin or uremia. Tumors or neighboring substances pressing on the nerve too can hiccups. A wrong sensation of something in the esophagus too behaves similarly and can be seen in GERD or reflux disease.
757137 tn?1347196453 I have long believed that most alcoholism was not a psychological problem, but a physical one related to hypoglycemia. Some years ago I had occasion to test my theory on a friend of mine who had become an alcoholic. She had all the signs of a hypoglycemic, the most notable being sugar cravings. (She was, by the way, very slender.) She told me she went on her biggest binges when she got out of rehab. I found out that in rehab they replace alcohol with lots of sugary foods.
Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
1353650 tn?1429463374 I lost my gall bladder in 2008 for unknown reasons, diagnosed with fibromyalgia 6 months after surgery, messed up my cycle pretty bad - thought I was going into early menopause, developed reactive hypoglycemia, pain in my extremities like a diabetic neuropathy, constant abdominal pain, and inflammation of the thyroid. My Endocrinologist told me that the body pain and extremity pain should subside while on the metformin. She put me on 500 mg. once daily and it has helped.
Avatar f tn I have a follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow question is is this something that I would have to take medication for regularly while pregnant. I already feel I'm taking too much medication now antibiotics for tooth infection plus tylenol #3 something for nausea prenatal vitamins and now this hypoglycemia. through all this I'm just praying that my baby is healthy.
Avatar n tn Hello you may have hypoglycemia-low blood sugar. Try eating some peanut butter crackers and juice or regular cola next time the symptoms start to see if it helps. If you can eat 6 small meals a day it will probably stop your symptoms all together.
Avatar m tn Do you have her on sucralose or aspterame? Both are deadly and causes severe problems. If so, change to stevia. Also Alpha Lipoic Acid, banaba leaf, and cinnamon (bought at health store) all help regulate sugar. Is she on a food-based vitamin/mineral?
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia in children is a puzzling problem, for until the root cause of it is discovered (and sometimes it never IS discovered why it happens to certain children), you are stuck simply responding to it whenever it happens instead of fixing the root health problem that causes it. A pediatric endocrinologist should be able to do tests to rule out some causes and narrow down possible causes in order to have a better idea of what the problem actually is as she grows.
1660049 tn?1326089018 Metformin is a wonderful drug BUT can cause DEATH from lactic acidosis...and it is most likely to happen when your first start taking it...make sure your doctor is doing blood tests! Metformin now carries a black box warning from the FDA because of this. Also, keep hard candy with you at all times in case of hypoglycemia. Are you monitoring your blood sugar levels? Metformin is a diabetes drug that lowers blood sugar.
Avatar f tn You should ideally avoid alcohol completely if you are on metformin. This is because it can precipitate acidosis and increase your blood sugar levels. You can however ask your doctor about taking an occasional drink in moderation. You doctor may allow this depending on your blood sugar profiles and diabetes control. However, as I said, its best to avoid. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn lactic acidosis can be lethal if uncontrolled, i dont know if there is a treatment to lower it, i know there are supplements to prevent this but i dont remember exactly, you should recheck online research coq10 and liposomal glutathione might help, especially coq10 possibly the brands with better absorption (coq10 nano from solgar decreased my creatinine).also fibroguard from heptech took my creatinine from 1.2 to 0.
Avatar m tn These are due to something called covert hypoglycemia. Intensive treatment to control diabetes by certain drugs leads to hypoglycemia which may not be recognised by the body. These hypoglycemic episodes are the cause of weakness and loss of energy.
Avatar n tn However, in someone who has a shunt and on examination and history there is no evidence of shunt problems, and if the hydrocephalus is under control, then a feeling of sickness with eating is not expected, and a search for other causes (gasteroenterologic, GI, causes) is necessary. Any food or liquids that contain sugar (that is broken down to glucose) is helpful in preventing or treating low blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms of headaches, shakes and lightheadedness sound like hypoglycemia, which is LOW blood sugar. Other symptoms would be if you get hot and break out in a sweat, find yourself feeling confused or perhaps depressed or irritable, or find yourself yawning for no reason. This can happen to people when they have not eaten in a long time or if they eat something that has a lot of quickly digested carbohydrates that cause the pancreas to be stimulated too much.
976897 tn?1379167602 The byproduct of using this less efficient fuel is a compound called lactic acid that builds up in the muscle and causes pain. This leads to destructive lactic acidosis in the tissue which, if unchecked, leads to death of the myocardial cells. Also, I postulate that that heart cells are not uniformally of sufficient degree of vulnerbility or lack there of.
Avatar f tn part (which is a characteristic as well of Type II diabetes) in people diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia is related to the chemical process that causes the Hypoglycemia (an excess of insulin). My quick search turned up dozens of articles so you should have no problem getting more information. I would also speak more to your doctor. I'm curious about that 166 blood sugar you mentioned as that is high (hyperglycemic) not low (hypoglycemic). Good luck on figuring it all out.
