Hypoglycemia blood sugar numbers

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia blood sugar numbers

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
1058898 tn?1275675151 People who have only low blood sugars may be suffering from hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. It's good you are seeing a dietitian. They will help you manage your blood sugars.
Avatar m tn First when your blood sugar rises too high, causing your pancreas to release a large amount of insulin that drops your blood sugar too low, and second, a slow drop in blood sugar caused by your liver running out of stored sugar. Doctors used to think that insulin-induced hypoglycemia follows meals and that your liver running out of sugar doesn't follow meals, but they now know that both types can occur any time.
Avatar f tn Well, as reactive hypoglycemia tends to occur after eating high-carb meals due to the fast spike and then crash of blood sugar, I would focus eating foods that do not cause this. Stay away from heavily processed starches (pastas, cereals, breads) and get your carbs from healthy sources like sweet potatoes, spinach, peppers, and other vegetables. A white rice or quinoa would be alright in small amounts and in moderation.
Avatar f tn Hypoglycemia/ low blood sugar would be considered blood sugar levels less than about 70. Your result of 103 is normal, not hypoglycemia. It is likely that your symptoms may be from other causes. Sometimes headaches can be a sign of not drinking enough - so a glass of water and a few minutes to relax / be quiet - may help a lot. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hello, sometimes after meal my blood sugar can be up to 190 mg/dl (if I ate a lot of carb-rich meals such as bread). The test with oral intake of 75 g of glucose gave a rise up to 210 mg/dl (after 50 min), and then a fast drop to 61 mg/dl (after 135 min). Is it considered normal and what should I do with this? Is such condition known and can it develop to diabetes? My fasting sugar is always around 90 mg/dl. Thank you!
Avatar n tn He was asking me what he needed to do for me but before he could feed me a second one, I was not even able to think about what I needed to do. I knew my blood sugar was low, I knew I was drenched in sweat, I was fully aware of my confusion as to what needed to be done to help me. I asked him to call 911. He wouldn't do that. He got me sugar instead (a chocolate swirly thing of his that I normally do not eat).
Avatar n tn Metformin is used to treat high blood sugar, and it can cause low blood sugar especially if not enough food was eaten. Yes unless I missed something I would say something is goofed. What was his blood sugar normally?
Avatar n tn Is this considered Hypoglycemia even though BS is 114 and if not why does he recover after an increase is sugar., and what can it be?
Avatar m tn t any spikes and then drops of your blood sugar. I have read that sometimes the symptoms of hypoglycemia can be more sever if the numbers are dropping fast, not necessarily how low they actually go. Also, you want to eat based on how much activity you are doing at the current moment. if you are sitting around watching TV, you won't need the energy from the sugar and calories the way that you would if you are going for a walk or even working out.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your question. Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar can indeed result in a headache and sometimes severe. https://www.migrainetrust.org/about-migraine/trigger-factors/hypoglycaemia/ You may find this treatment guide helpful as well. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373689. Are you having trouble managing your type 1 diabetes? I would talk to your doctor about how to keep your range at as consistent of a level as possible.
Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Avatar f tn Medication has lessened the attacks but I still have them once or twice a month. I have developed a bit of a theory that maybe the side pain, low blood sugar and panic attacks may somehow be related? The pain comes from the area of my adrenal glands and I wonder if there could be a connection? I have discussed all these issues with my doctor separately over the years, but never as connected symptoms. I've never had any satisfactory answers for the pain or hypoglycemia either.
Avatar n tn In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hello vprrchk ~ we're glad you found us and so happy that you find our site helpful to you! The condition you are referring to is HYPOGLYCEMIA which means 'low blood sugar.' Every person's sensitivity level is different and therefore where one person may remain conscious at a level of 50, another may encounter a seizure at that same level. I did type "hypoglycemia" into google and many, many links showed up, so try doing that for additional resources.
956433 tn?1255977108 just wanted to kno if anyone on this forum is dealing with hypoglycemia along with there anxiety..i have had the low blood sugar since im 15( im 21 now)..and i know if i don't eat right and take care of it it can make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, tremors and what not..and now that i have anxiety iv noticed alot of the symptoms mimic each other..also i have always been really thin..
Avatar n tn You must also realize that we type 1 folks are going to have wide variation at times in blood sugar numbers. The hemoglobin a1c is actually the best overall number to look at, for the average of all the daily glucose tests gives a better picture of whether you are damaging your body or not. An occasional high number is not going to harm you, nor is an occasional low number.
Avatar f tn t get up in the middle of night and eat something, feels like my blood sugar is off even with numbers in the 70s. I am having a hard time figuring out whether to wait until I see my endo again, or go to my internist. Having a thyroid uptake scan in two weeks, to figure out if I need biopsy.
Avatar n tn Within a half hour or so, she notices his abnormal behaviour and urges him to re-test. His blood sugar level is less than 2. She is concerned because he had a normal reading less than an hour before and eaten his normal snack - but what could be causing his sugars to be so low at this time? He has not engaged in any physical activity, including sexual, to bring on these lows.
Avatar n tn If your blood glucose was 61 an hour or two after breakfast, especially if your breakfast was fairly high carb (such as cereal, bread, etc) you might have a specific type of hypoglycemia called reactive hypoglycemia which is people who have low blood sugar after a meal high in carbs. I would suggest seeing your doctor and getting tested to see what type of hypoglycemia you have and to make sure you aren't pre-diabetes.
Avatar n tn any ideas please advise me - also my endo says that if my blood sugar is fine then this shouldnt be happening and all tests blood and heart and thyroid are normal as well, i am at wits end and miserable, the palps are much worse after eating also...
Avatar m tn Have they checked you for a pancreatic tumor which causes low blood sugar? Blood sugar that repeatedly rises and falls happens in a pre-diabetic person who is insulin resistant. You produce enough insulin but your cells aren't absorbing it. Hopefully, someone more knowlegable than myself can enlighten both of us on this.
Avatar f tn In the (1) condition, the simple carbs will deliver a bolus of glucose right into your blood, creating a spike in blood sugar, and then your body will react by secreting insulin to bring it low.
Avatar m tn Diabetes is all about (blood glucose) BG numbers. The Med. community decides where to draw the line. Used to be under 200 was good then they found out people under 200 developed complications. So the redrew the line at 180 guess what they too developed complications. So it went to 160 for a short time. We do know from studys and lab work that any BG over 140 causes damage to nerves and capillaries. Now most diabetics are higher at one hour and drop by hour 2.
Avatar n tn Hello MWood, As you may know, we're all volunteers here & are not medical professionals, so it's best to review your test results -- and any online research -- with your doctor. Your fasting number is well within the normal range. Your GTT numbers seem to be on the low side, as it is common for normal folks' blood sugars to rise to 140+ during a GTT. Your blood sugar also dropped rather quickly & to a very low level.
Avatar f tn All the sugary sweets and candy and simple carb foods (like cakes, biscuits, donuts) are spiking up your blood sugars very quickly, but then the sugar levels in the blood stream will plummet down very quickly too. The types of foods you need to eat are those that have a slow release. Make sure that you have a breakfast in the morning.
