Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia blood brain barrier

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn Because our brain and spinal column is separately by this "blood brain barrier". Keeps critters 'n stuff (that's a scientific term, where I come from) present in our bodies from entering the brain and spinal column. I don't know the answer to that question, though.
Avatar n tn Hello vprrchk ~ we're glad you found us and so happy that you find our site helpful to you! The condition you are referring to is HYPOGLYCEMIA which means 'low blood sugar.' Every person's sensitivity level is different and therefore where one person may remain conscious at a level of 50, another may encounter a seizure at that same level. I did type "hypoglycemia" into google and many, many links showed up, so try doing that for additional resources.
Avatar m tn My mom heard a Doctor talking about this missing protein in the human body which allows certian substances from food not to be broken down properly and therefore being able to penetrate the BBB (Blood Brain Barrier). She doesnt remember which protein this was. How is your situtaion now? If I find out anything than I will keep you informed. Good Luck!
1042487 tn?1275279899 Brain tumors, unfortunately, do not respond to any known treatment. The blood-brain barrier performs a neuroprotective function by tightly controlling access to the brain; consequently it also impedes access of proteins as well as pharmacological agents to cerebral tissues. In order to treat brain tumors, it is therefore imperative to find vectors that can penetrate the blood–brain barrier and permit medications to do their part.
Avatar n tn How do you know if they are anything wrong with your brain like brain tumor, blood clot or brain cancer thank you for any help anyone can give
Avatar f tn I have been having problems with LOW BLOOD SUGAR. I am NOT a diabetic. Example: this morning i was dizzy, glucose was 115. I had a cup of yogurt, 30 mins later my level dropped to 95. After eating breakfast { 1 egg, 2 pcs whole wheat toast and 1 Tbsp peanut butter it dropped to 78. I can not seem to maintain my level and have been dizzy, nausuous and all the other symptons. It is hard to eat 6 meals a day as I work. I try to eat whole grains, and don't use sugar.
Avatar n tn org/forums/Diabetes---Adult-Type-II/show/46 While there is some degree of variability among people, most will usually develop symptoms suggestive of hypoglycemia when blood glucose levels are lowered to the mid 60's. The first set of symptoms are called adrenergic (or sympathetic) because they relate to the nervous system's response to hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I have read many times that blood sugar control is important for keeping away demyelination in diabetics, and I also know how harmful low blood sugar is on the brain. especially if you get 10 drops a day like i do.f Thanks guys.
382218 tn?1341181487 Hi All, I was reading one of my books on MS yesterday, and had a light bulb moment when reading the discussion of the blood-brain barrier. The author talked about the theory that a trauma can damage the BBB, triggering (not causing) the onset of MS, in someone who is already genetically predisposed to the disease. It was the examples given of what constitutes trauma (“a car accident OR a fall”), that gave me pause.
Avatar m tn 2 days ago i was in a friends house watching a film when i started to feel a liitle bit sick then moments later my head felt like it was "filling up" with blood my brain felt like it "switched off" for a split second i paniced and almost fell of my seat is this something i should be concerned about?? should i go see my dr??
Avatar n tn I was almost killed recently while in the hospital, because they thought it was regular hypoglycemia and drew blood without giving me anything to eat or drink. I need to find out the current, correct medical term for my condition so that this won't happen again. My symptoms: If I don't eat for a long time, my blood sugar drops rapidly and preciptously. Overexertion, stress, heat and dehydration also contribute. Having blood drawn almost always triggers an attack.
Avatar n tn ve had a few similar episodes before (other than the last few weeks, the last was 13 years ago - recent events have been caused by some difficulties with a change in my insulin therapy), and a few of them actually involved observable seizure symptoms (convulsions, etc.), always during my sleep. (When I get hypoglycemia awake, I get noticeable symptoms and just eat something - it only happens in my sleep.
1773104 tn?1314155711 Anyone familiar with anxiety attacks being caused by hypoglycemia? I read that when your brain isn't getting enough glucose, it will tell your body to release adrenaline to get it's glucose, thus, spawning an anxiety attack.
Avatar m tn Fatigue is a very non-specific symptom and could occur due to stress/ anxiety, inappropriate diet, low blood sugar, low blood pressure, micronutrient deficiencies, anemia, hormonal/ endocrine abnormalities/ metabolic disorders, primary neuro-muscular causes, sleep disorders, systemic causes such as infections/ inflammations, electrolyte abnormalities, a few auto-immune, side effect of a few medications/ drugs etc.
8398640 tn?1398042546 The protein in question is involved in regulating which immune white cells get across the blood-brain barrier to be able to cause inflammation in the brain. Women appear to allow more of the very inflammatory cells across - T-cel lymphocytes. This fits in with Tysabri's mechanism of action. Tysabri blocks T- lymphocytes from passing across the barrier from the blood into the brain. Tysabri is probably the most effective of all the DMDs discovered to date.
Avatar n tn you have Lyme, it is already entrenched behind the blood-brain barrier. The Lyme spirochete invades theCSF and can penetrate the blood-brain barrier within 12 hours of infection. Insist on full Western Blot, PCR, or one of the newer and more reliable tests. MD’s are still letting patients die or suffer debilitating, crippling illness because they are clueless as to how to test for, diagnose, and treat Lyme & other tick-borne diseases.
Avatar n tn I am dizzy and nausea after eating what is it, I have had my blood sugar tested several times at the clinic and all come back normal, a few years ago a doctor had me get MRI of brain done and it was fine but still no answers. I can go months with out a dizzy spell and all of a sudden have them all the time. Any comments or suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I am not presently having problems with extremely low blood sugars, but am getting more blood sugars between 70 and 100. I become seriously depressed at those levels. For example, last night I was working on a craft project and I started to feel blue and started to cry for no reason. My blood sugar was 80. Am I the only person who has this type of experience?
