Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and you

hypoglycemia

1773104 tn?1314155711 Hypoglycemia is a condition that needs diagnosed by your doctor and treated by proper eating habits and monitoring of blood glucose. If you think you are having issues with hypoglycemia, a visit to the doctor is in order!
Avatar n tn it could be worse. you need to have your doctor check your blood sugar levels. and if its not the hypoglycemia then you need to find out what it is.
Avatar n tn Have you had a glucose tolerance test to see if your body produces too much insulin as a reaction when you eat? This is a different test from having a simple blood sugar test -- you must drink a sugary solution and blood is drawn several times to see how your body is reacting. Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test.
Avatar n tn If your son has only the symtoms you describe, then hypoglycemia or diabetes are not the cause of his problems. The main reason is that Motrin is not an effective treatment for either condition. Migraines are not common with either condition, and if you aren't seeing any increased urination or thirst, or any of the other symptoms of hypoglycemia (http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/download/NovoHypoglycemia.pdf), then I'd say your son's problems lie elsewhere. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Until you can discern a good pattern and figure out how much carb you need(and for how long), please do remember to check your blood sugars before you drive, especially after exercising, and definitely pull over if you feel unwell. Take care.
Avatar n tn Please clear this up for me. In your website, it says that prolonged hypoglycemia can cause seizures or loss of consciousness? By "prolonged" do you mean within the moment or do you mean prolonged meaning as in years? I hope you mean in the moment because one has hypoglycemia for life, right? Also, that doesn't happen often does it? If your blood sugar drops and you eat,and then feel better, that stuff should not happen right?
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia and diabetes are two different conditions. I will share with you my knowledge of both. Hypoglycemia occurs when a persons pancreas produces too much insulin and their blood sugar drops low enough to produce symptoms of a low blood sugar that may include shakiness, sweating or clammy feeling, or mental confusion. When this happens, glucose needs to be given to raise the blood sugar to a normal level.
Avatar f tn Trembling, fatigue and headaches after meals may be caused by postprandial hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. To verify this diagnosis, you need to check your blood sugar level ( a blood glucose level that falls below 70mg/dL). This condition usually occurs in individuals who do not have diabetes. Associated symptoms include sweating, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness and difficulty with speech.
Avatar n tn Though not a certainty, there are reports in animal studies of a possible connection between narcotic pain medications (Vicodin is one) and hypoglycemia. As you know, severe hypoglycemic reactions, like the ones you are now having, are dangerous, but it will be hard to know if Vicodin is or isn't the contributing to them without stopping it and seeing the result.
Avatar m tn yes, i was diagnosed with hypoglycemia of some kind, at the doctors office my blood pressure was 70/50 i felt dizzy, its always low, and my resting heart rate is 45 or so , and i do smoke which i think is wierd, i used to exercise a little, plus i also take klonopin and zoloft......
Avatar n tn When you start to grow a little, you start to reflect on things that are fleeting and pass you by, showing you the impermanent and quickness of living and consciousness as we know it.
Avatar n tn I agree that a nutritionist would help but before you see someone you need to contact your healthcare provider and ask what it means to you and baby if they say you are hypoglycemic. How does it affect your pregnancy, shd you worry about it and how you can remedy - i think thats what they shd provide you with. They can recommend a nutritionist who can work with a pregnant person with sich a condition.
Avatar n tn Low blood sugars can be VERY scary and hard to deal with. You may want to talk to your Dr. about getting a prescription and training as to how to use a Glucophage kit. This is essentially a large dose of sugar in the form of a shot to use in severe low blood sugar situations. Also you will need to have those around you trained in its use as well in case you can not get food and sugar fast enough on your own.
Avatar n tn Your doctor is probably going to try to get your a1c down to around 6, and the risk of hypoglycemia increases when control is this tight. Testing often and carrying 2 small cans (6-oz cans) of juice with you everywhere you go will provide a safety net in case your sugars drop when you are away from home. If you test every 2-3 hours, your sugar levels can't drop or rise too much before you catch it happening.
6918915 tn?1395932871 s healthy, peanut butter and crackers is a great snack to ride you over until lunch. Veggies and hummus or fruit. Try having your snack before you start to feel sick if you know it's going to happen at 10 have it before. If your on that schedule regularly you will prob eat lunch at noon and another snack around 3 and so on.. good luck. It's actually a super healthy way to eat as long as the snacks are healthy and not full meals..
Avatar f tn A typical LCHF meal looks like egg omelette with bacon, asparagus and mushrooms, or another example large salad with olive oil and steak, or another example broccoli sautéed in butter with roasted chicken thigh (with skin on). Try this for a week, and you will see a difference of how you feel, as you will gain control over insulin secretion, keeping your blood sugar rock steady and a feeling of being well fed.
Avatar n tn If so, experiment with Orange juice or grape juice or whatever juice you prefer...drink 4 ounces and wait 10-15 minutes and check your count again...depending on which lab you have your blood work done, the normal range is either 70-110 or 80-120...if you are not having a hypoglycemic event, sweating, shaking etc. it's possible that your count is fine...as everyone's symptoms can be different, you need to discuss this with your doctor or a nutritionist...good luck...
1523917 tn?1302215871 There are glucose tabs that you can take as you feel your sugar is too low if you cannot eat at that time. She is correct. I would not recommend seeking a second opinion for this. Make sure you eat at regular times everyday.
Avatar f tn But if you are taking your blood sugar when you feel the worst and it is not low, then obviously something else is going on. I'm sorry I'm not a doctor and couldn't begin to guess what it all indicates, and not even sure which forum would be useful to ask. My main concern is that when you are talking about accelerated heart rate, chest pain and difficulty breathing that it could be cardiac related which really should be ruled out ASAP.
946578 tn?1258663287 Does anyone with sphincter of oddi dysfunction have any issues withy hypoglycemia or type two diabetes? I have had all the symptoms of SOD and I am going in to get checked for it. I have the pain, nausea, elevated liver enzymes, back pain, etc. I have been misdiagnosed with everything everyone else has... 358971 tn?1330888975 i was just wondering if you have learned anything new with this. i also have PCOS and chronic Hypoglycemia that is not diabetes related. i was misdiagnosed with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). what are your weight issues...losing or gaining? i have been trying for over a year to gain weight. i am 5'1" and only weigh 90 lbs. this is all new to me. i have extreme highs and lows...more lows than anything.
Avatar f tn Also, be sure not to skip meals, eat a healthy breakfast everyday and a snack between meals. Many people think that with hypoglycemia you need to eat sweats but lots of foods produce glucose. Your saliva breaks carbs down into sugar so you could keep some crackers or something similar with you so you always have a snack.
Avatar n tn I am a 41 year old female that has hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia and am trying to lose some weight, about 10 to 15 pounds. I take meds for my thyroid, watch what I eat and exercise 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hrs a day 5 times a week. I've tried following a low blood sugar diet and was able to lose about 4-5 lbs the first week, but for the next 5 weeks I lost nothing. This last week I went off the diet slightly and gained 2-3 lbs. back. Am I eating the wrong things?
