Hypoglycemia and orange juice

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and orange juice

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn If so, experiment with Orange juice or grape juice or whatever juice you prefer...drink 4 ounces and wait 10-15 minutes and check your count again...depending on which lab you have your blood work done, the normal range is either 70-110 or 80-120...if you are not having a hypoglycemic event, sweating, shaking etc. it's possible that your count is fine...as everyone's symptoms can be different, you need to discuss this with your doctor or a nutritionist...good luck...
Avatar f tn Yep. Fastest thing to relieve the hot flashes, dizziness and shakes when they hit you is juice!
Avatar n tn Last Sunday, I happened to take her bs 30 minutes after a breakfast of eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and orange juice. It was 67. It is a week later and the strange feelings have gradually gotten worse now with a tingling, numbing sensation in her extremities with the other symptoms as well...slight nausea I showed her how to do the monitor... This morning after breakkfast she felt really bad & so she did her reading. It was so low the monitor said LOW, and the instructions say call a doctor.

Avatar n tn hey, My friend has Hydrocephalus and has a shunt. unfortunately, this causes her to not eat much because everything she eats makes her sick, which I'm assuming is what resulted in her also being hypoglycemic. I've read that orange juice, apple juice, and grape juice are good ways to help hypoglycemia but both of those make her sick! aside from getting IV's is there anything she can take, or eat that has a low chance of making her feel sick, but will help her hypoglycemia?
Avatar n tn your blood sugar is low you need to eat! Orange juice with sugar mixed into it will help you and follow that with a protein snack, also take your blood sugar to see what it is. If it does not rise with in 15 mins drink some more orange juice. I hope this helps. you blood sugar should not stay permanently damaged and what ur are experiencing are side effects of hypoglycemia.
968908 tn?1274871115 9 (180) is not a normal reading, though generally we check our blood sugar two hours after eating not one hour. A banana and a glass of orange juice is very high carb and since you have imparied glucose tolerance I would suggest limiting your carbs more to try and maintain your levels as long as possible. You might want to check your fasting numbers as well to see if you have progressed to pre-diabetic readings or diabetic readings.
Avatar f tn Even just a sip at times. Just now I have been drinking a cup of 7 up mixed with Orange Juice, the first pop I have had in probably a year, but half way through my drink and I litterally feel like I am going to pass out! Though it is worst with pop, it is beggining to happen with other drinks too. I can't drink Fruitopia anymore, it's progressing to just as bad as pop. And sometime even water.
Avatar n tn I was on the verge of collapse and quickly drank a 12 oz soda and some orange juice. My sugar then shot up to 145 and although shakey I felt a lot better. 30 more minutes rolled around, I ate rice and chicken, and in the middle of my meal I began feeling lightheaded again...sugar had dropped back to 52, so I drank another soda.
Avatar n tn I've had orange juice and 2 cookies and it has continued all day--this day the longest it's ever lasted. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn and suddenly he was fainting, my parents thought it was because og low sugar levels so they gave him some orange juice. And then he couldn't walk, and started to make some sounds. What happened to him?
Avatar n tn If you suspect that you are having hypoglycemic episodes, you may want to try drinking a small amount of orange juice when you feel this way (about a half cup to a cup) and then see if you feel better within about 15 minutes as the juice is digested. If your problem is hypoglycemia, you should feel better.
Avatar f tn This has happened to me 4 times already... Started at 27 weeks and now I'm 32 weeks. Actually happened to me today. I asked the doctor and he first asked me if I'm having something with high sugar for breakfast, because it usually happens to me in the afternoon between 12pm-4pm. He says that at about lunch time, my sugar would drop if I had something with sugar in the morning.... He basically told me to not have anything with sugar for breakfast.
Avatar n tn Gave me orange juice and a lady gave me a glucose tablet. They called family to pick me up. Spent rest of day in bed, was absolutely freezing. Severe abdominal pains as well. Now, two days later, still weak and a little shaky. Could it manifest this way and do I need an emergency room visit?

Avatar f tn It happened to me to. I also really like orange juice. I found minute made orange juice with low acid and that did the trick. So you should try that.
13724114 tn?1440985203 Not really a question, but i didn't feel my baby all day, and i tried the orange juice thing and she started kicking like crazy! It made me so happy lol.
Avatar f tn I have hypermesis gravidarum and for the longest time orange juice was the only thing I could keep down! It also helped a ton with the nausea!
3112100 tn?1379614659 yes!! with all my ultrasounds I've had i drank a ton of orange juice so my baby would wiggle everywhere. i had some earlier and now she's wide awake wiggling around. i believe it does wake them up!
Avatar f tn No diabetic medication should be administered without the availability of a glucose meter, and testing, with the availability of a simple sugar (orange juice, for example) to handle hypoglycemia readily available. There are arguments against taking Metformin before going to bed, because the hypoglycemia may not be noticed in the sleep condition.
Avatar f tn After searching I saw a few people mention hypoglycemia for a couple others with the same symptoms, I tried drinking a bit of orange juice every time and it seems to help a bit. Especially after looking up the symptoms and even a friend of mine had a look and agreed I had every single symptom on the list on wikipedia. It definately seems tied in with the BM's, cos more often than not, right after I'll have energy again. Would it be odd that this can cause symptoms of hypoglycemia?
Avatar n tn I believe this is because it happens so slowly that the body is without necessary sugar for a long time, and lengthy periods of hypoglycemia are harder on the body than when it is caught quickly and fixed. All that being said, I suggest that you encourage him to start testing every 2-3 hours. I find that it is pretty much impossible to drop severely low in that period of time with Lantus, if the dosage is correct and the last blood test was normal.
Avatar n tn You might want to try sipping about a half cup of orange juice when you feel this way, and see if you feel better within about 15 minutes to a half hour. If so, then this would indicate that your blood sugar is running too low. There are dietary changes that might help with this problem -- I would suggest that you go to your doctor and have a glucose tolerance test done to see how your body is reacting to sweet foods or sugar.
Avatar f tn Very easy to fix, Eat three balanced meals, reduce sugar, increase proteins, and if you feel an attack coming on eat something sweet (i.e. orange juice, an orange or chocolate bar) and then follow with some protein to balance it out. Good luck.
