Hypoglycemia and milk

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and milk

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn For children, it is more dangerous, since their brains are still developing and they are more sensitive to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and the effects of both. You may have to watch him carefully, and if he goes to bed before you do, wake him with a glass of milk or something like that if he goes to bed without eating.
Avatar f tn Eat a healthy breakfast with slow release energy goods like porridge, egg on brown bread toast, wheetabix with soft fruit and milk, shredded wheat with milk and soft fruit, home made porridge made with milk or water with some cinnamon and a few raisins. Two hours later, have a healthy snack - a piece of fruit, celery with peanut butter, a handful of nuts, a yogurt (read the label for sugar and fat content) - "low" does not necessarily mean healthy.
Avatar f tn Been checking it on and off and reading a lot on the subject but no definite answer as to what I need to be watching for in the future. It ranges from being in the 60s to 120s. The highest I've ever saw it go is 122 but that was two hours after eating.
Avatar n tn I am a 41 year old female that has hypothyroidism and hypoglycemia and am trying to lose some weight, about 10 to 15 pounds. I take meds for my thyroid, watch what I eat and exercise 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hrs a day 5 times a week. I've tried following a low blood sugar diet and was able to lose about 4-5 lbs the first week, but for the next 5 weeks I lost nothing. This last week I went off the diet slightly and gained 2-3 lbs. back. Am I eating the wrong things?
Avatar n tn If you find yourself in this condition and suspect that your blood sugar may be low, you probably need to take in some slower-acting carbs so as not to further stimulate the pancreas to start a snowball effect of insulin-low-hypo. Some people find that drinking milk gives some slower-acting carbs (about a cup of milk) and will help. Others swear by adding protein to the diet, which slows down the absorption of carbs so as not to overly stimulate the pancreas.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms of headaches, shakes and lightheadedness sound like hypoglycemia, which is LOW blood sugar. Other symptoms would be if you get hot and break out in a sweat, find yourself feeling confused or perhaps depressed or irritable, or find yourself yawning for no reason. This can happen to people when they have not eaten in a long time or if they eat something that has a lot of quickly digested carbohydrates that cause the pancreas to be stimulated too much.

1208118 tn?1265877425 This can be managed with medications and quick fixed foods such as honey, candy, milk, regular softdrinks, and fruit juice. Take care and best regards.
Avatar n tn So mainly we need to build her fat stores, and a younger infant does not have that many stores, so we give her a high fat shake before bed, protein powder, Peanut butter, banana or strawberries and whole milk. HI fat and HI carb being the most important, Just milk is only about 3 carbs per 4 oz, so they recommmended something like apple juice in the middle of the night if she has a cold or virus etc-----since it has more like 8 or 10 carbs per 4 oz......
1773104 tn?1314155711 Certainly hypoglycemia can trigger anxiety and panic, but rarely would it be the sole cause behind it. It is common for someone new to anxiety to do serious soul searching to try and find a logical "reason" behind the new emergence of anxiety and panic. We turn into detectives and try to find a sensible reason why it showed up (most times seemingly "out of the blue").
Avatar n tn well this could be the hypoglycemia, i too have it but dont often have symptoms because i eat constantly and eat candy often. but i am no doctor so you should definately ask your doctor about it. hypoglycemia seems to be thought of as not serious, but in fact its just as serious as diabetes, and also can progress like diabetes. you may have been told this 5 years ago but it may have progressed to a higher level. it could be worse. you need to have your doctor check your blood sugar levels.
1153903 tn?1307740400 It helps cleanse the liver and helps to fight cirrhosis. The hypoglycemia also weakens the liver and the milk thistle combo will help. I would stop drinking for a couple of weeks and try the combo to see if anything improves. If it doesn't or gets worse go to the doctors and have it checked. It would probably be wise to also moderate your drinking even more since your liver is weak. You do not want problems later on, getting old is enough of a pain without adding to it. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I would have tachycardia up to 199 bpm on a pulse ox. The muscle weakness increased and also included my arms and shoulders and soon accompanied by studdering, inability to talk, chew, swallow, my legs would give out intirely....normally always accompanied by tachy of some sort normally up to 150 pbm...sometimes it would be normal. I can always hear my surroundings, but not always able to respond, which lasts seconds to minutes or until I drink milk, or relax.
Avatar n tn 30. Around 10:30 I had a cinnamon bun, a muffin and a glass of Tang. About 45 minutes later I had the spell. Now, it did go away on it's own after about 20 minutes. Sometimes they happen at random times in the day, I do find eating something seems to help. Could these be hypoglycemia spells? At first I thought maybe they were anxiety attacks, I've had a couple of those in the past - but only due to legitimate reasons (stressful events in my life).
72351 tn?1281992542 My highest reading will be in morning (around 138-142 depending on if I have snacked along with the milk lol!) and throughout day it will be around 97-107 which I believe is a good count. I would appreciate any comments and input you all have. Again, thankyou soooo much for your help.
Avatar n tn Have you had a glucose tolerance test to see if your body produces too much insulin as a reaction when you eat? This is a different test from having a simple blood sugar test -- you must drink a sugary solution and blood is drawn several times to see how your body is reacting. Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test.
Avatar n tn asp Take this test and see if you do in fact have hypoglycemia. Just from reading from a few sites it seems like its possible for you. I have it pretty bad and I have to be very careful. It sure has made dieting a pain since I have to have snacks all the time just to keep it normal.
Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
Avatar m tn My symptoms are very similiar to low potassium, hypoglycemia, high blood pressure and anemia, but with the high iron, I don't think anemia is a possibility. Any suggestions on tests to get and could I have anemia or hypoglycemia with high iron? Thanks!
Avatar m tn yes, i was diagnosed with hypoglycemia of some kind, at the doctors office my blood pressure was 70/50 i felt dizzy, its always low, and my resting heart rate is 45 or so , and i do smoke which i think is wierd, i used to exercise a little, plus i also take klonopin and zoloft......
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?
Avatar n tn s good that you are seeing the appropriate specialists, and I would urge you to be patient and keep focused on getting better. As for the hypoglycemia turning into diabetes, I'm not a doctor, so I don't know for sure, but I don't think having hypoglycemia is any guarantee of getting diabetes. Some people are just hypoglycemic.
Avatar n tn Many people have some hypoglycemia(through increased insulin sensitivity) after they exercise and the effect can last for hours afterwards. If you are on insulin, you can decrease your dose prior to exercising. Otherwise, you can eat some additional carbs prior to exercising and also afterwards, with some complexed in a meal so that it lasts for a while to prevent hypoglycemia later.
Avatar n tn If not, then perhpas the narcotic medication is to blame and another medication should be considered. Pain is miserable, but hypoglycemia can be life-threatening (especially when driving), so an alternative medication would perhaps be the smarter approach even if pain is not treated quite as well with it.
Avatar f tn Trembling, fatigue and headaches after meals may be caused by postprandial hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. To verify this diagnosis, you need to check your blood sugar level ( a blood glucose level that falls below 70mg/dL). This condition usually occurs in individuals who do not have diabetes. Associated symptoms include sweating, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness and difficulty with speech.
