2150728 tn?1336531601 I was having turkey burgers and french fries when I started to notice a strange numbness effecting my tongue wehich then spread to my mouth and then to my lips and face. My head started to feel funny(dizzy and floaty like my head would float away). I felt very hot,as well. Question: Can low or high blood sugars cause this?
Avatar n tn The symptoms are vary varied and might include dizziness, feeling generally out of it, fatigue, irritability, disorientation, tingling. Testing is the key as if your numbers have been high for awhile you will feel low even if you're not. You should treat any lows below 60 (some treat below 70) with a couple glucose tablets. You will learn the correct number for you.

2088051 tn?1334542007 To keep blood sugars stable you need to eat small meals frequently. these should consist of protein and fat (and a little bit of carb). AThe fat and the protein will help the food to be digested slowly and help keep sugars stable. Carbohydrates should be slowly digestible ones with fibre and fat included, ideally. Although you may feel like eating lots of carbs when you shake this may actually make things worse.
Avatar f tn hypothyroidism is known for having hypoglycemia so yeah i would say that alcohol will be very bad for hypothyroid patients as it probably could cause a coma so be careful and speak to your doctor about it before going overboard

Avatar n tn When my blood sugar was checked it read 30, and the nurses all looked at me and asked if I was okay, and they told me that patients here go into diabetic coma. They told me to eat something, so had a box of girl scout cookes that I had enten then after about 30 minutes or so I rechecked it and it was I think around 80. This happend all the time and after telling my doctor they did a fasting blood sugar, but it all was okay.
Avatar f tn t show up for work, and by the time her boss notified the family and my sister found her, she was in a coma. She never revived and we took her off of life support after 9 days. I believe that she accidentlly took her Lantus to bring down a high blood sugar. They had trouble in the E.R. bringing her blood sugar back up. Since I am also insulin dependent, I was scared into being extremely cautious.
Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
341655 tn?1240368839 You need to tell people near you what the warning signs are of hypoglycemia and to give you the glucose gel if you are disoriented. If you are not able to respond and swallow though they shouldn't try and give you anything but should call 911. You don't say if you are taking any medications. If so, and especially if it is insulin, it could be too high a dose for you and needs to be evaluated right away.

Avatar f tn Please get your child investigated in detail for possible insulin dependent diabetes mellitus since she was detected with hypoglycemia and urinary ketones. the fainting could be hypoglycemic coma. Then you need to get your neurologist to rule out absence seizures which can occur. Rule out hypocalcaemia as the cause of joint pains. Consult a neurologist for a detailed evaluation and appropriate investigations to hasten her treatment. Take care.
Avatar n tn A glucose level of 29 is extremely low and is considered to be hypoglycemic. Hypoglycemia by itself can cause seizures and coma. Addison’s disease is not the only cause of sudden hypoglycemia, though. Other causes that could have occurred in your dog’s case include Insulinoma (a tumor of the pancreas that produces excess insulin) and overwhelming infection (possibly secondary to the surgery, in your dog‘s case).
Avatar n tn Alcohol consumption in patients with diabetes poses them at a risk for both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. While the former is associated with worsening of diabetes the latter can be acutely dangerous. It can also increase the effect of hypoglycemic medication and pose a risk for pancreatitis associated with worsening diabetes and hence is best avoided in patients with diabetes. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn Normal blood sugars should range between 70 and 120. I do know that coma, brain dmg and death can occur when blood sugars go to low. That number is different for everyone. Here are some suggestions, always remember, dont guess, test. Testing is the initial format for your father to know where is at. Second, help your father find a good medical professional to assist with testing, fine tuning insulin intake. Thanks for the question and I sincerely hope all goes well.
Avatar m tn You need to see a doctor ASAP and get treatment to correct your hypoglycemia symptoms. Test your thyroid and, for sure, get an insulin test to see if your pancreas is responding to your immune systems instructions to produce the needed amount of insulin. There are easy treatments but if you prolong getting your problem under control it will only worsen. The foremost thought in your mind today should be to get an doctors appointment .
1773104 tn?1314155711 Certainly hypoglycemia can trigger anxiety and panic, but rarely would it be the sole cause behind it. It is common for someone new to anxiety to do serious soul searching to try and find a logical "reason" behind the new emergence of anxiety and panic. We turn into detectives and try to find a sensible reason why it showed up (most times seemingly "out of the blue").
Avatar n tn well this could be the hypoglycemia, i too have it but dont often have symptoms because i eat constantly and eat candy often. but i am no doctor so you should definately ask your doctor about it. hypoglycemia seems to be thought of as not serious, but in fact its just as serious as diabetes, and also can progress like diabetes. you may have been told this 5 years ago but it may have progressed to a higher level. it could be worse. you need to have your doctor check your blood sugar levels.

Avatar n tn Another big one is the effectiveness and tolerability of the anti-rejection drug regimen that the patient has to be on for the rest of her life. It is a wait-and-see situation. The healthier the patient is and the more compliant with medications, the better the prospects for the heart to last a long time.
Avatar n tn Is she on insulin injections or pills or nothing? Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia can both be bad. Too low of a reading can put her in a coma and cause death or too high can do the same. She definitely should see a nutritionist and maybe a free clinic would be able to provide that to her also. Good luck, you are definitely going to be her guardian angel.
Avatar n tn On this forum, we have heard from a number of moms whose kids have shown signs of hypoglycemia, and I offer my sympathy, for it is a frustrating problem and frightening to watch your child have these episodes. It sounds to me like you are doing exactly the right things... just keep an eye out on him, for you will notice the changes in behavior maybe even before he notices that he feels bad.
