Avatar m tn I suspect it was out-of-control hypertension which caused her kidney function to deteriorate. I measured her BP at 200/110 several occasions over the weekend. She says she was stressed out on weekends. But her resting BP on weekdays was still around 160/100. I don't know what her internist has been doing but they apparently thought her hypertension was under control. She stopped taking Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, something she was on, a while ago.
1243333 tn?1296446902 High blood pressure is not good for the heart and can lead to decreased function and an increase in angina. Your blood pressure should really be less than 140/90 and if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease it should be less than 130/80. If you aren't on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone?
Avatar f tn I am on hydrochlorothiazide (water pill) and Zocor for high cholestoral. Also take Humalog and Lantas insulin (4 shots per day). Take Prilosec for GERD and a potasium pill. Also on Peri-Colace for stomach problems. Spoke with the Dr. and discontinued all pills for a few days to see if it had any effect and it did not. Still swelling. Right now about 5 pounds of water, by tonight it will be 10 pounds.
Avatar f tn Hi Thankfully your father is above the end stage renal failure stage, theoretically. Dialysis or renal transplant is generally not necessary until 10% of kidney function is left. However these percentages are only subjective. The course of action depends on the patient’s condition, other associated problems etc. So your father’s doctor can judge this best and advice you on the course of action. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn Dear Logan, welcome to the medhelp forum. Creatinine is an indicator of the renal function to filter fluid. It reflects the damage to the kidney’s filtration mechanism, which gets affected by longstanding hypertension or diabetes. Raised value may also indicate dehydration, increased muscle mass causing increased protein breakdown. Normal levels of creatinine in the blood are 0.6 to 1.2 mg per dl in adult males and 0.5 to 1.1 mg/dl in adult females. These are subject to laboratory variations.
Avatar n tn s current kidney function and renal parenchyma of 8 mm, it would be a good decision to go for conservative surgery. Though there is a small chance that he may require Nephrectomy at a later stage, Pyeloplasty would be the best treatment at this stage. Nephrectomy is typically indicated when renal parenchyma is less than 3-4 mm. So if you understand and agree that there is a small possibility that your father may require a second surgery later, you can go for a pyeloplasty now.
Avatar m tn My question is, How is the Thyroid affected by Renal Failure or impaired renal function. my friend and I are both in Nuclear Medicine, we have some understanding of the basics but would like a more technical yet clearer understanding. I apologize if this should have been posted in the kidney forum.
Avatar n tn Chronic kidney disease (CKD), also known as chronic renal disease, is a progressive loss in renal function over a period of months or years. The symptoms of worsening kidney function are unspecific, and might include feeling generally unwell and experiencing a reduced appetite.
Avatar n tn The goals of pretransplantation HCV therapy are to decrease the risk for progression of HCV-associated liver disease, stabilize renal function in patients with HCV-related glomerulopathy, and prevent development of HCV-associated renal disease after transplantation.
Avatar f tn In general, lisinopril should not be taken with potassium supplements or diuretics that conserve potassium [for example, hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene (Dyazide)], since blood potassium levels may rise to dangerous levels. PREGNANCY: Lisinopril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and neonates have died when lisinopril was administered during pregnancy. NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known whether lisinopril is excreted in breast milk.
Avatar m tn By "AGE" I'm assuming you mean a persons age in years. I don't believe age has anything to do with Janumet's "effectiveness" but age has a larger role with renal function. To make it clear for other readers, Janumet is combination of two drugs; Sitagiptin and Metformin. This a brief from the Merck web site - makers of Janumet - Section 8.5 - Geriatric Use JANUMET.
Avatar n tn What is Grade 1 renal medical disease? Is there a cure through medicines and dieting?
Avatar m tn Actually, is Diovan belongs to a class of blood pressure medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It is a combination of Valsartan and the same diuretic as Hyzaar. It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.
Avatar n tn Therapy with trazodone should be administered cautiously in patients with significantly impaired renal or hepatic function. Dosage adjustments may be necessary.
Avatar m tn Methods We performed a meta-analysis of pooled data to determine the effect of LDT vs LAM treatment on renal function of CHB pts. MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease) was used to measure renal function from four LDT clinical trials: LDT vs LAM (n=1370); LDT for 4-years (n=1869); 2 years LDT vs LAM in decompensated patients (n=232); prospective LDT roadmap study with tenofovir (TDF) add-on (n=105). Renal function was assessed at baseline (BL), Week 52 (W52), W104 and W208.
Avatar f tn Any way, after being released from the hospital I was put on cytoxan from July 2007-January 2008. And regain normal kidney function. My question is this, if my kidney disease was so drastic, why was I not put on dialysis which is the seemingly normal treatment to types 4 and five? And Also I am now wondering do I really have type 4 or 5 kidney disease. When I got the normal function test results, I was not even taking the meds!!!
Avatar n tn m trying to get pregnant and after a week and a half I had elevated liver enzymes and fever so I went off that drug. I have now been on Hydrochlorothiazide for about a week and it is controlling my bp very well. However, I have noticed that my resting pulse has been steadily getting higher since I have been testing my bp at home with a monitor cuff. Going back through all my readings I am usually around 75-85 bpm but since I got on the diuretic I am never lower than 90 and frequently 100-106.
Avatar f tn I take cholesterol medication and need to have blood work done every six months to check for proper liver function. My cholesterol (and liver) are doing great and kidney function came out fine too when my last tests were done on 12/05/2013. She also did a urinalysis in Jun 2013 which came out fine. The only thing I saw (doctor did not think it was a problem) was my blood calcium had crept up from 9.7 in December of 2012 to 9.9 in December of 2013.
Avatar f tn i just never know, whats gonna happen next. anyone having trouble with renal function and MS?
Avatar m tn 80% bilateral stenosis and stenosis in a solitary functioning kidney. This is correlated with blood creatinine levels to assess the renal function. So, based on the degree of stenosis and the renal functioning surgical therapy is planned and the outcome is good. Please discuss the various possibilities with your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
963889 tn?1359677334 Chronic kidney disease is caused by diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, polycystic kidney disease and some medications like pain killers. Medications are given to reduce the blood pressure and to correct the anemia. When the renal function is below the optimal level then dialysis is initiated. At the end stage of renal failure renal transplant from a competent donor would be the therapy of choice. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Dosing interval adjustment of VIREAD and close monitoring of renal function are recommended in all patients with creatinine clearance below 50 mL/min [See Dosage and Administration (2.3)]. No safety or efficacy data are available in patients with renal impairment who received VIREAD using these dosing guidelines, so the potential benefit of VIREAD therapy should be assessed against the potential risk of renal toxicity.
Avatar n tn Normally it is the function of the kidney to eliminate excess creatinine from our body and maintain the normal levels. Normal value for creatinine is upto 1.2mg/dl. When renal function is hampered by infections, stones and renal failure these parameters raise. As your history suggests that you were suffering from ureteric colic, due to which there might have been urinary tract obstruction and mild renal functional derangement.
Avatar n tn By comparison, Acute Renal Failure (ARF) is characterized by an abrupt shutdown of kidney function, most often accompanied by reduced urine production, pri urinary obstructions, infectious diseases, trauma, and the ingestion of toxins. CRF is one of the leading causes of illness and death in older cats. If your cat is age seven or older, it's a good idea to check for CRF during each annual exam, with a blood test, urinalysis and blood pressure measurement.
