1398693 tn?1343684738 m taking hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril and when I started to take the hydrochlorothiazide I kept ending up in the hospital because my potassium level kept dropping mainly because I have had some problems with diarrhea so no matter how much potassium rich foods I hate I couldn't keep my potassium level any higher than 3.5 so when I got diarrhea my potassium level would tank.
Avatar f tn That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium. I starting concentrating on foods with potassium such as bananas and also increased my supplement to two a day instead of one. Now, lately, on top of the fatigue I was already having (from other issues?) I have been feeling swimmy-headed and having a lot of headaches as well as increased feeling of exhaustion. I am wondering if I am taking in too much potassium now.
Avatar m tn Blood pressure is 180 mmHg (high pressure) / 100 mmHg(low pressure). The doctor gave Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets. The blood pressure is then controlled to 107~135 mmHg(high pressure) / 65~80 mmHg(low pressure). In 2015: My mother suddenly felt dizzy and she was found that her blood pressure jumped to 80~90 mmHg(high pressure) / 50 mmHg(low pressure). Then the doctor asked her to stop taking any blood pressure control medicine. Her heart is examined OK.
Avatar f tn In general, lisinopril should not be taken with potassium supplements or diuretics that conserve potassium [for example, hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene (Dyazide)], since blood potassium levels may rise to dangerous levels. PREGNANCY: Lisinopril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and neonates have died when lisinopril was administered during pregnancy. NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known whether lisinopril is excreted in breast milk.
471949 tn?1236904026 I have been on a potassium-sparing medication called hydrochlorothiazide/triamterine. that is the only one I have knowledge of. This is suppose to be the whole package, diuretic and blood pressure medication.
1243333 tn?1296446902 t on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone? Do you have heart failure?
481256 tn?1208392293 5 mg is a lower dose for triamterene. hydrochlorothiazide will cause you to lose potassium so essentially your levels should not drop. 25 mg is the normal dose for hctz. There are stronger diuretics out there so these are not "too high." If you are worried about lowering your BP, just watch for signs of dizziness, especially with prolonged standing or when you change from a sitting/lying position quickly up to a standing one.
Avatar n tn Hi, hydrochlorothiazide can sometimes cause nausea and vomiting and also abdominal pain. Check to see if you are having acid reflux which is causing your chest pain. If your symptoms worsen with bending down, it could be acid reflux. Also, have your blood pressures checked, hypotension can cause symptoms of chest pain. Regards.
Avatar f tn I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
1398693 tn?1343684738 When I was hospitalized last week I was told that my body wasn’t absorbing the potassium they were giving me because of the diarrhea the colon makes potassium and it seems that the ER doctors are forgetting what a low potassium level can do because the doctors I saw when I was admitted didn’t know why I was sick. Today I got my blood work back from my clinic and it still shows a GFR of 60 and that means that there is some kidney damage ( 2ND stage ) that also may also be a factor.
Avatar n tn There are several circumstances that may contribute to the cause of PVCs. One is the use of decongestants, particularly Sudafed. Another is the use of diuretics such as Hydrochlorothiazide. Most blood pressure medications contain diuretics. Your electrolytes, particularly magnesium/potassium levels, may be out of balance. See if your mineral levels are low. Get copies of blood tests and read them yourself.
Avatar f tn I do take hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg/day. My Vitamin D was 32 in June 2013 and was 29.5 in December 2013. She told me to take supplements to increase it after 29.5 reading. Is 9..9 too high? No parathyroid or thyroid test done. Doctor thinks this is perfectly normal. I am an anxious person and have read on internet that this is a little too high. Should I be concerned? Very anxious about it. Thanks for any response.
Avatar f tn I take another half tablet of potassium (I regularly take 10 meq per day because I am on hydrochlorothiazide, a potassium depleter) and within the hour everything is back to normal. Also, take CoQ10 - at least 200 mg daily. Expensive, but good for you. Can't hurt you, doesn't interact with anything, and helps with electron chain activity including of course in the heart.
Avatar n tn Another is the use of diuretics such as Hydrochlorothiazide. Also, your electrolytes, particularly magnesium/potassium levels, can be out of balance. Have your blood checked for these two minerals and others while you're at it. Go to the Website for World's Healthiest Foods at http://www.whfoods.com and locate the lists of food sources for potassium and magnesium. In my case, all of these factors contributed to my PVCs.
Avatar m tn I take it you are not diabetic, your medication can raise glucose levels in the blood. It also affects the level of potassium in your blood which can affect heart function.
369861 tn?1306275686 This all started with my potassium being low and being hypoglycemic. The endo doctor took me off all diuretics so that i could take the renin and aldesterone tests. Does the potassium have anything to do with the thyroid and why did the endo take me off all diuretics to take the two tests. Doesn't he realise that my body would retaing the water and the result of edema? Just wondering?
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar m tn I AM TAKING HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE 25MG. I HAVE BEEN TAKEN THEM FOR 3 YRS NOW. THIS MEDICATION JUST STOP WORKING. MY DOCTOR WANTS TO ADD ANOTHER MEDICATION FOR ME TO TAKE. Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Goodness, hope you are consulting MD before tapering or stoppping AD and AA meds. Hydrochlorathiazide is a diuretic. Should have labs to make sure potassium doesn't get too low. Just asking, but did you tell them at the weight loss clinic about the antidepressants and anxiety meds you were taking?. Discuss with MD that prescribed anti-depress/anxiety meds. I guess I am afraid of diet pills after the ruckus with Phen-phen.
