Avatar n tn As a result our cardiologist put her on Metoprol 75 mg. Her blood pressure has returned to normal He also performed a stress test and echo on her. The echo showed that she has excess water around the heart and it is squeezing on the heart. He prescribed hydrochlorothiazide. My questions are: 1. Is this something serious? 2. Can this medicine help her control this? 3. Does she need to be taking this medicine for a long time? 4. How did this issue started to begin with?
Avatar n tn Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide and calcium channel blockers such as verapamil are acceptable to use with a horseshoe kidney. This information is provided for general medical information purposes only. Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition. 1243333 tn?1296446902 High blood pressure is not good for the heart and can lead to decreased function and an increase in angina. Your blood pressure should really be less than 140/90 and if you have diabetes or chronic kidney disease it should be less than 130/80. If you aren't on the maximal dose of Norvasc which is 10mg and the highest dose of Valturna then your physicians should probably start another bp agent such as Hydrochlorothiazide or increase the cattapress patch. Why are you on spironolactone?
1165078 tn?1338655745 I've been on Keppra for over 3 yrs now, other than gain weight as soon as I was put on the drug, I've had numerous UTI's and kidney infec. as well as Kidney stones, I reduced my dosage by half (1000mg/day down to 500mg/day) over a period of 4 months last yr, still szr free, and blood levels come back with in therapeutic range (something my Neuro can't quite explain yet isn't making me go back up to the 1000mg/day). But I'm having more kidney issues.. am I alone on this?
1398693 tn?1343684738 Thank you so much for the information I knew that there are medications that didn't deplete potassium but I couldn't find which ones. right now I'm taking hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril and when I started to take the hydrochlorothiazide I kept ending up in the hospital because my potassium level kept dropping mainly because I have had some problems with diarrhea so no matter how much potassium rich foods I hate I couldn't keep my potassium level any higher than 3.
Avatar n tn I wanted to add that she has been on the atenolol for about six years for palpitations and high blood pressure attributed to lyme disease. She has chronic lyme disease so the beta blocker does not help with the crushing fatigue. Atenolol has also caused her psorasis to get VERY BAD. What has anyone been able to taper to, a calcium channel blocker. Or does one need to stay on a beta blocker for life since the heart has become dependent on it?

Avatar m tn these tablets are not for bp any way there for water balance, she must take ace inhibtors in kidney disease, ramipril is a good one, renal diet is essential, low salt low spice low potassium low fat, LOW PROTEIN, less oil, currys must be watery not spicy, i would limit protein to 40 grm a day or less, go and see a nephrologist, search the net for a good one,
1668318 tn?1306416764 OK my Dr put me on these medications Hydrochlorothiazide/Spironolactone and having me weigh my self daily and i am wondering whats going on... I know i should ask more questions but Dr.s kind of intimidate me!!!! I know my creatinine is 1.33 and my gfr is 53 what ever that means grrrrrrr.........
Avatar m tn I'm so glad to find an online community of others with MSK! I'm a 34 year old female, and have had kidney stones since I was 16. At 19, they repaired a ureter defect and said that I wouldn't have stones again. During pregnancy a few years later, I had stones again, so badly they had to perform a cystoscopy and place a stent when I was 5 months along- that was one miserable pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I had a rather large staghorn kidney stone about 2 years ago and I was tested and placed on these two medications. I started having very low B12 levels and I asked my Urologist if the Allopurinol could be causing this? I was having to take two B12 shots a month just to stay feeling well and cognitive. He said, it was rare but he didn't have a problem trying to get off of it.
Avatar f tn I have severe amounts of kidney stones and my disease is bilateral. I was diagnosed at 17 when I almost died. Now at 48 I have acute high calcium levels in blood and urine. My 24 urine came back with a note from the lab that the test had to have been done improperly because my levels were impossibly high. I had my submandibular gland removed last May and it was calcified and full of sarcoidosis. So now I have sarcoidosis hypercalcicuria along with fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn So far the fiber has not helped. I have diabetes, type 2 and take Metformin and Glyburide. I also take Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure. I was drinking a soy powder drink for a year and stopped around the time I had the colonoscopy so my diet has changed. I no longer have the soy in my diet. I have heard the colonscopy prep liquid (I had ot drink a gallon of this) in some cases causes kidney disease.
Avatar n tn All of my blood work came back normal, but my calcium level in a 24 hour urine test showed 366. He put me on Forteo and hydrochlorothiazide. 4 months later, my calcium level is still high at 353. He thinks I've stopped taking the hctz, but I haven't missed a dose. I'd like to talk to him, but he's out on med leave. He said at my initial visit that I most likely have some sort of kidney defect and I've never properly absorbed calcium.
Avatar m tn I filled the prescription and then came home and phoned my oldest friend in the world, a 59 yr old Internal Medicine specialist to talk to him about it. His initial reaction was, and I quote, "I wouldn't take that stuff!". He told me that I should tell the first doctor that, after researching the hydrochlorothiazide, I am fearful of taking what he prescribed and that what I would like is for him to prescribe an ace inhibitor.
Avatar n tn im on hydrochlorothiazide for edema....but i still swell very bad. why would this be?
Avatar f tn It turns out that the likely cause of my bp is chronic kidney disease. I have been treating the symptoms with a nephrologist; however he just recently voiced my diagnosis of CKD. My creatinine over the last five years has consistently been in a range of 1.3 to 1.9, my 24hr urine is prt of 170'smg/24 hr, and creatinine Ur 24 of 700-800 mg/24 hr. In the last 6 months my GFR has been in the low 30's ml/min.
Avatar f tn I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
Avatar f tn Looking for good new...found out I am pregnant and am taking Lisinopril 10mg. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar f tn i also have a stent in the kidney and an addominal anuerysm. the drs want to me have the kidney removed if she how painful is the surgery and how long is the recovery?
Avatar m tn Hi All, I have been suffering form Hypertension for Past 3 months .I feel giddiness . I went to cardiologist and When I was diagnosed , I had BP around 160/110 and Pulse rate 93 BPM. I took ECG and reading was normal. I gave all the blood test which Includes Kidney profile, Glucose & LDL & HDL. Everything is normal. My doctor prescribed me telmisartan 40 Mg . I took that for one month and later revisited same doctor. Pressure was around 150/100 again.
Avatar n tn Did any doctors ever diagnose you with any particular disease? Are you still having this problem? My symptoms are exactly the same as yours. I take Altace and Hydrochlorothiazide. Dr.'s don't really know whats wrong. Test after test and they still have no answers. Can you give me any info?
Avatar n tn However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
Avatar m tn This has lead me to start eating a heavily non-protein rich vegetable and fruit based diet, and has helped my side effects and blood pressure significantly, but this means I have to avoid almost all “normal” food. Does anybody have any clue what might be wrong? I have asked my kidney doctor, but he doesn’t even make an attempt at explaining to me what might be the problem. I have listed a bunch of medical information and history below in case it is helpful. Any ideas at all are appreciated.
278016 tn?1220191104 I have been having multiple health problems for four years shortly after having mono, and kidney stones which were a year and a half apart. Focusing on the kidneys they are constantly sore. When I eat certain foods, especially salty foods, i urinate even more frequently, and leak urine. I have been to a urologist and my bladder is perfectly healthy.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coreg, Enapril and Hydrochlorothiazide, for the past three years. During this time my legs have started tingling and feet are so sensitive, I can hardly wear shoes. My legs feel cold all the time and pains in my toes when walking sometimes. My knees hurt really bad also. I have been reading about side effects of the Three medications I take, they all mention side effects of pain like the ones I have experienced.
