Humulin n insulin for dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Humulin n insulin for dogs

humulin

Avatar n tn If your blood sugar is high enough to need insulin, then you do need insulin. But there are other types of insulin available. Maybe you are reacting to Humulin N.
Avatar m tn For an insulin dependent diabetic the most effective dosing has been found to be a basal (long-acting)/bolus (short-acting before meals) regimen. But I agree with Sally. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy. 7. There are many diets you can use. You are not limited to w/d, which the vets seem to push! I don't know if your dog vomited because he didn't like the w/d, but maybe you have an idea about why that happened. It may have been because his sugar was high.
Avatar f tn You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
Avatar f tn I have been using Novolog insulin for a month now and will run out before I can get my next supply. I do have some Humulin R on hand. Can I substitute that for 2 days?
Avatar m tn Zoe - I think Windchimes meant humulin insulin not huminsulin. Humulin is considered an intermediate acting insulin as its duration is 24 hours, but this can vary per individual. LANTUS, on the other hand, is considered long lasting as its duration is up to 36 hours. Windchimes - You kept your Humulin dose a secret so one can only assume you're at max and why your doctor is considering moving to the pump. This link will give an inside on pumps http://tinyurl.com/lvs7o6 .
Avatar n tn If you are in US I understand you can buy the old insulins (Humulin N and R over the counter in wallmart quite cheaply). This will be better than none. You can also get cheaper meter and strips the same way. I assume you do know how to use insulin properly. You need to check how you can get assistance. Do you have a Dr? Can you get access to any assistance. Sounds like you might be in trouble with really high blood sugars. Juice can make your sugars very high.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar n tn Very discouraging...I am thinking of insisting on going back on Humulin N for my nigthtime shot. I take Humalog with each meal but that is fine.
Avatar m tn You have done an amazing job with your nine year old and I can fully appreciate how difficult things must be, but clearly if you can get the diabetes under control life could still be good for both of you (at least for a few more years possibly). I would encourage you to keep trying for as long as you can. The injections are more a nuisance than painful (as a diabetic I can actually say that), and if he is otherwise contented, then it must be worth persisting.

Avatar n tn I've been a type 1 diabetic for 12 1/2 years. My doctor took me of Humulin N because A1c was 5.5 and I would experience lows through out the day. With diet and exercise, my blood sugars were pretty good. When my gynecologist put me on Birth Control Pills, seems as if my blood sugars got worse. The next prescriptions would be Glucophage twice daily. Things didn't get better. This medication was discontinued and I was prescribed Glucovance. Oh my God.
Avatar m tn I use long 24 hour insulin with a rapid insulin last 4 hours. the long insulin is for my fating and the rapid is for high BG and food. easy to adjust and easy to get good numbers.

Avatar f tn org I think they will have what you are looking for. They have good home made recipes for dogs. Your vet is right with what he is telling you. Maybe this website will offer more variety for your dog.

Avatar f tn Insulin analogues start working within 15 minutes and last for up to five hours. Examples are insulin aspart, insulin lispro and insulin glulisine. * Intermediate-acting insulin: isophane insulin starts working after one to two hours and lasts 10 to 14 hours. Examples are Humulin I and Insulatard. * Long-acting insulin: these start working after one to two hours and last for up to 24 hours.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been on Lantus for over two years having switched from Humulin N at bedtime. Not only have I gained 30 pounds, I started having mood swings and irritability since starting Lantus and lately now in the past month I had two severe lows right after taking the Lantus (within 30 minutes of taking my shot).
Avatar f tn Both my husband and myself have type 2 diabetes we have no health insurance so we have to buy otc insulin . I need to know how many units should be the initial starting dose of Humulin 70/30 until we can adjust according to daily bs readings.
Avatar f tn For those who take mealtime insulin, blood sugars have a tendency to rise in 1-2 hours and then drop over the next couple of hours. This is because the insulins we inject are much slower than the insulin the body makes, and also because people with diabetes lack hormones that slow the rate of digestion. The answer, as you alluded to, is not usually to take MORE insulin. Rather, we need to either make the insulin work earlier or make the food work later. This can be accopmlished by: A.
Avatar n tn I use humulin n as a long acting insulin , generally about 45 units a day , and humulog to keep my sugars down , lately I have been checking my sugars every half hour to try and get a grip on them , my pharmasist told me that humulog lasts up to 2 hours , I have checked my sugars after injecting it , and it generally takes 1/2 an hour to come down 6 points ( 13 to 7 ) but I have become very brittle , a bowl of porage , no milk , can send me up 6 points , should I be using my humulin R as well as
Avatar n tn I decided to try giving my shots in my rear and I have had a lot of success...and the insulin is absorbed better there for me because I do a lot of walking and bending to pick things up. I also remember this happening when I was younger to my arms and that's why my doctors had me move to my stomach...too much built up in my arms and the needle just wasn't long enough to get the insulin through. I know sometimes the butt is hard to reach, but the thighs are a good place to try as well.
Avatar f tn hi, I always have problems with my blood sugar level. I m using humulin. even though I eat a normal portion of meal, my blood sugar goes up after each meal. but it goes down to normal level after 4-5 hours. it makes me confused because I cant inject more because I will get low, what should I do?
Avatar n tn The concern with the metformin is if they have to put you under for a csection. I did insulin (humulin for long acting and Humalog with meals) as well. I think they prefer the insulin tho.
Avatar n tn but we had already done 12 by the time that I spoke with her, and she said if that is doing good, then I should keep it there for now. Now, they are changing his mealtime insulin to Novalog and it is in pens...so, now we get to figure this out too. LOL I am so sympathetic towards diabetics. Especially type one. My aunt was diagnosed at age 7 and died at 32, b/c she didn't take care of herself. I love being involved and able to help. It gives me a great feeling.
Avatar n tn MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED LANTUS INSULIN TO REPLACE THE HUMULIN L INSULIN THAT I HAD TAKEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I TAKE THE LANTUS INSULIN PRESCRIBED DOSAGE(S) THAT APPROXIMATELY 15-30 MINUTES LATER I START TO SWEAT PROFUSELY. IS THIS A NORMAL REACTION TO THE LANTUS INSULIN? I VOICED MY CONCERNS TO MY DOCTOR AND HE HAD NO COMMENT. I AM ALSO TAKING SEVERAL DOSES OF HUMULIN R AND HAVE GAINED WEIGHT SINCE I STARTED TAKING THE LANTUS. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.
