Avatar m tn Unfortunately my Crohn's disease has been flaring for the last several months. A sigmoidoscopy confirmed it several weeks ago. It appears to be localized to my rectum so I have been having proctitis with lots of urgency and mucous. My gastroenterologist prescribed Entocort and Rowasa enemas to be used on alternate evenings before bed. I have been doing this for almost 3 weeks and am seeing little improvement.
Avatar n tn I just read something the other day, but I don't remember what site, about crohn's disease patients also having celiac disease together with the crohn's more often than not. So maybe try a gluten free diet and see if that is contributing to your symptoms. Who knows! It might make things alot better. It can't hurt to try the diet. Just make sure you are 100% gluten free - the smallest amount can trigger an autoimmune response. Give it a few months and see if it helps.

Avatar m tn My Crohn's disease was in remition until recently. I noticed that when I have a flare-up my face, scalp, back, trunk, ect breaks out and the sores are EXTREMELY painful. Is there anything I can do for this? HELP!!!!!!! My GI doc is going to have me go on Humira. Thank you!!!!
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and was prescribed Entocort. I have been on the drug for a week and a half and I am still having symptoms. Has anyone else tried this drug? How do you control the diarrhea? I keep taking Immodium but I still keep having issues and I still keep losing weight. I am having a hard time staying about 100 ibs and I'm 35 yrs old! All foods in the grocery stores are designed to help people lose weight.
Avatar n tn (Because I have had to take so many steroids in the past I also have osteoporosis as well.) The Humira seems to be preventing the stomach problems but I have been getting terrible sores in my mouth, which makes it difficult to eat, brush my teeth, etc. Crohn's can affect everything from the rectum to the mouth, but not everybody is affected the same way. It's an autoimmune disease, like diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. I have also read the article maiacita (above) referred to.
Avatar f tn s not an obsruction...everything is working fine in that department since they increased my humira dosage about 2 and a half months ago.
1115182 tn?1258760246 I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs; 30 yrs on steroids, 10 on methotrexate. Originally oral, 25 mg a week, but last 4 yrs weekly injections of 25 mg. I had a hemi-colectomy in March 09, with 15 cm of my small and large intestines removed. Unfortunately, I then had a big flare in late September requiring 2 weeks again in hospital. I was put on remicade: gastro said I would have only 3 infusions: 0, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, but still had faecal incontinence and failure to put on weight.
Avatar m tn Was wondering about Ulcerative Colitis. I've since read the Humira isn't even approved yet for U.C. even though Dr has been talking to us about it for months. He thinks a lot of it. But without approval, insurance won't help pay for it. SO for now it's a mute point I guess. Dr upped prednisone again. Dr doesn't like Remicade at all. How has your experience been with Humira? How long have you been using it, etc? THANK YOU.
686769 tn?1236272131 I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in December 2004. I was ok my first two years then spent a lot of time in the hospital. I tried Remicade and had an allergic reaction. They tried me on it again and I wasn't responding. Then, a new 'miracle' drug came out for Crohn's called Humira. My doctor put me on it and though I had no bad reactions to the medicine my body did not respond to it either. I had surgery in April 2008 and they removed 15 inches of my intestines.
Avatar f tn I am a 46 year old desperate to save my j- pouch!16 years age I was diagonsed with ulcerative colitis. My entire colon was removed . I had a temporary iliostomy then 3 months later experienced a successful reversal. Today I am recovering from a ruptured bowel, I once again have an iliostomy, and have been diagonsed with Crohn's disease. The first line of treatment was 4 weeks on Pentasa and Rowasa.
Avatar f tn You should also try checking your medication side effects. I highly recommend checking your medications to pin point the problem. I have begun taking Humira for my Crohn's Disease and my left arm feels like there are pins and needles in it. This is a side effect of my medication. So before you do anything else, please check your side effects list.
1087766 tn?1256642989 I've had Crohn's all my life but only diagnosed in 2007. I am in the midst of having a flare and have been for the past 4/5 months! i have seen my consultant and he has decided to put me on Humira at home which i am glad as i don't have a car to go to the hospital every 2 weeks. So i am kind of happy. Basically I was wondering about surgery as I have read many good reviews on re sectioning.
7893116 tn?1395127231 I've been diagnosed with crohn's disease for about two years now. I was vomiting for 5 months straight, needed to go to the emergenecy room every two days to receive an iv cause i could not eat or hold down water. I had a colonoscopy done and my results came back that i had a thickening to my ileum wall. The drs started me immediately on remicade and entocort, I felt as nothing was working. After months of complaining, the doctors did an capsle egd which showed supposably "nothing.
Avatar f tn I took it for about a year a couple years ago. I don't know what your doctors are saying but I wouldn't continue to take it if you are planning on keeping the child. I have been on humira, remicade, multi stem cells transplant/infusion, and tofacinitib and my doctors have told me that any pregnancy will be a risk for the child as I am consider toxic even if I have been off these medications for 20 years.
Avatar m tn Hello, so I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease earlier this year, had my appendix removed (on accident I believe due to the inflammation I had at the ileum in my intestines), shortly after I had my appendix removed my crohns continued to flare up getting worse and landing me in the hospital for a week. I have fistulas and have lost 30-40 lbs I'm only 5'6 and now only weigh 120 lbs.
468830 tn?1246109222 My daughter-in-law has been on Humira for her Crohn's now for about 6 mos., and is doing very well on it. Today she talked to her Dr., as her and my son are wanting to get pregnant, and the Dr. had told her that if she were to get pregnant, she should stay on the Humira during the entire pregnancy. Has anyone else been on Humira while pregnant, and if so, any complications with yourself or the baby? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I have had crohn's for 10 years and been through the treatments. First supplements and probiotics are pretty standard fare for the disease. All crohnies have nutritional problems. If your aunt is in a severe flare, take her to the ER. They will make sure there is nothing really bad going on, get her hydrated and out of pain. For me hydration is the biggest thing, and sometimes the pain free rest. They will also assign her a GI doc if she is admitted, maybe she will like the one she gets.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the Crohn's Community forum, where I hope you can get the support you need. It is entirely possible to have Crohn's without bleeding as I can relate from my own experience. I was dx in 1970, only symptoms severe weight loss and diarrhea. I had a good appetite, no pain and no bleeding. Eventually a laparotomy was done (no scopes in thise days) and some 15 different areas in my small intestine were inflamed. Biopsies confirmed the Crohn's diagnosis.
680313 tn?1249312403 I am in the same boat. I tried imuran, after a week the nausea was so bad I started vomitting and couldn't stop. I then went into a crohns flare up and when it was all said and done within in two days my potassuim levels had dropped to the point where I was lucky not to be in the hospital. I tried Humira and was allerigic (hives), tried Remicade it did nothing.
1349026 tn?1276805457 Hi Hana - first of all, where do you live? I only ask because you mention "going privately" and suspect you live in Britain. In the US the majority of people have private medical insurance, and indigents get Medicaid. I would seriously ascertain if you do indeed have Crohn's as well as colitis. I have Pan Crohn's/colitis - which means I have Crohn's in my small intestine as well as the large colon.
