Avatar n tn I found a website that stated it was okay to give dogs certain human medicines, like Benedryol for doggy allergies or Peptol Bismol for doggy stomach aches etc. Is this true?
Avatar f tn I would suggest giving her benadryl (1 mg per lb of body weight) or trying a thunder shirt. Your vet can give you a sedative that you can try if you know about a thunderstorm beforehand.
Avatar n tn PLEASE don't give your dogs anything at all like this before checking with your vet!
Avatar f tn Yes you can give dogs soma. My vet has actually told me to. Just be careful the amount you give.
6669309 tn?1462648142 There are indeed some human medications that dogs can take (usually in much lower doses) ... BUT many human medications are not safe for dogs! The reason why some canine medications are more expensive is because they are prepared in a completely different way, even though the actual medication content may be no different.
Avatar f tn My reason for posting is on the other matter you mention in your question, that you share your food with your best friend. There are many human foods that are completely unsuitable for dogs, and one of the many reasons why dogs become ill is because of scraps of human food that is given to dogs. While we are not susceptible to these toxins, dogs are, as they have completely different digestive systems.
Avatar f tn Would it be okay to give a human Laxitive to a dog, if they were having trouble using the bathroom.
1360237 tn?1351816181 That would be really helpful if you could post a list of foods both that dogs CAN eat, and those that are toxic. Thank you. I'm sure it will make things a lot clearer for everyone. That's a very good idea.
Avatar n tn No, you should not use a human prescription for dogs. Quite simply, we have vastly different bodies - and some human medicines can be extremely damaging to a dog. Added to this, the strength of the human vigamox will be far too concentrated to use on a dog, and you cannot dilute it down to the correct and theraputic formulation. Finally, how do you know it is conjunctivitis and even if it is, it is more important to treat the cause of it rather than the symptoms produced by it. In short ...
Avatar n tn Human grade fish oil supplements are made from exactly the same ingredients (usually!) as the ones for dogs. But check ingredients to make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be, and can harm dogs....such as xylitol etc. Pure fish oil is okay. But keep the capsules or bottle of oil out of the light, preferably in the refrigerator to prevent rancidity/free radicals, etc. There is some information, and information about dosages here: http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.
82861 tn?1333453911 People take pets into their homes for every reason under the sun. You might be prompted by impulse when you see that cute little pup gazing at you through the bars of a crate. Your children may have been begging you for months for a dog and you finally gave in with the stiuplation that the child take responsibility for its care. Maybe you are a Good Samaritan who decides to keep an abandonded dog.
9214378 tn?1408881584 You may even want to consider liquid CoQ10 so you can customize your dogs dosage exactly. I know a couple people who opt for liquid CoQ10 for that reason." I will check out the liquid form and give recommended dose! This sounds perfect for Darbie's needs Thank You!!
Avatar m tn is it possible for dogs/cats to contract human stds in anyway shape or form? like hpv for instance. can a dog /cat catch that disease at all? reason why i ask this is because some diseases originated from other animals, so is this possible? this just got me thinking.
Avatar f tn Is anyone in the household taking any medicines - and if yes, are they in a secure place out of reach of your dogs? I am going to assume there is no sign of your dog having got human medicines ... which leaves us with an "unknown cause". It maybe you will never find an answer, sadly. I am very sorry for your loss. I would certainly ask your vet about it and see if he has any ideas.
Avatar f tn Yes, you can give both together...You actually can buy one pill that includes both the Denamarin AND the milk thistle combined....I buy mine from Entirely Pets.... Rimadyl is toxic to many dogs & I would suspect (As ginger did) that this may be leading to the problems....Also, a low quality dogfood is to blame for many Liver issues.... You need to get your dog on an excellent joint supplement which is know to help tremendously.....
914336 tn?1243105303 This will be helpful not only in being a good way for you to get to know your puppy before it comes home to live with you, but it will also acquaint you with the breeder, which is an invaluable thing. Getting to know your breeder will give you a mentor that you can call if you have a question or a problem. You can call for help with training. You can call for help with health issues.

Avatar n tn I sometimes give my dogs chicken. I have notice that if I give my boxer any red meat, she'll have gas and diarhea the next day. I just think it depends on the dog. My dog's all have sensitive tummies. So I usually avoid it, they do fine on dry food and occasional dog cookies.
