Avatar m tn Human iPSCs can be generated from various tissues, including skin, blood and liver cells. For the study, Prof Jang and colleagues generated human iPSCs from a variety of adult human cells, including liver cells, bone marrow stem cells and skin cells. Next, they chemically induced the iPSCs to differentiate first into immature and then more mature liver cell types.
Avatar n tn genital warts, hand warts and verrucas on the feet. The different types prefer different types of skin (e.g the harder skin on the foot for verrucas and softer skin in the mouth for mouth warts). HPV is usually transmitted through skin to skin contact. Therefore if you were to catch a HPV type from an infected person, the same part of your body would have come in direct contact with the same part as the other person's body.

Avatar n tn A few days ago, I noticed a dark patch of skin on my foot. It is dry and feels harder than the rest of the skin on my foot. It doesn't itch or hurt. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Would it be best to see a doctor or wait a few more days to see if it clears up? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I also have a dime sized spot in the same location on my other foot. Same symptoms. The spot on each foot is darker in color. This problem showed up about a year and a half ago. I haven't worried about it much because a doctor gave me a cream (it didn't work) and didn't seemed concerned about it. I didn't trust her opinion because it has to be something. It just wouldn't show up. Recently someone said those sypmtoms could be a sign of cancer. Is this true?

The term "athlete's foot" refers to the disease and not the organism (fungus) that causes it. Several different fungi, called dermatophytes, can cause tinea pedis. The fungal infection is often treated with topical antifungal agents, which can take the form of a spray, powder, cream, or gel.
Avatar f tn I was reading some of the leg rash skin problems. Seems that people are mostly on treatment when it happens. I am not on treatment yet but I have had a reddish purplish discoloration on my lower legs for a couple years. Doesn't itch, sometimes warm to touch, sometimes swollen. I also have a splotchy red looking rash on my upper arms. Doesn't have any symptoms. When I get overheated (several times a day) the redness on my legs and arms get worse. I have consulted a dermatologist.

Avatar m tn DO NOT tell doctors what you think may be wrong with you. I was told it was a skin infection because my left foot was turning bright red. It was ice cold to the touch (first clue). After months of pain and terrible sores (second clue), I demand to see a vascular doctor. After a Doppler Ultrasound, they found multiple blockages. I have had 6 or 7 angioplasties and going in again next month for more ballooning. Because it was not caught right away, I have 24/7 chronic pain.

Plantar warts are generally harmless and self-limiting, but should be treated to lessen symptoms (which may become painful)." Does that mean that anyone who has had a plantar wart has HPV and is contagious? Is this the same as genital HPV?

Avatar f tn What foot diseases can I possibly have? My symptoms are peeling in the toes, a little only on the soles with no itch. The peeling is not in any shape (like crater form), it's just peeling. What could this be? Could it be pitted keratolysis? I've been researching about foot skin ailments and I've seen pictures actually but I don't think it's pitted keratolysis since the peeling isn't craterlike.
428506 tn?1296557399 It makes me mad, too. But note that an MD wrote this, and I think several of the comments are also made my MD's. I think it's important for us to be aware of how this topic is viewed by the people who we trust to help us. Personally, I'm not convinced by the "other side." To me, saying that there is no proof is a poor argument. Research is lacking, and testing methods are still capable of evolving.
