You just print out a coupon good for a free Huma Pen Luxora HD or the newer Huma Pen Memoir this is the one that remembers your dose and the time you took it). I started controlling my blood sugar using Regular insulin About 3 years ago, my doctor moved me to humalog. Using humalog was not easy. I looked at the study that was done and it never reacted as expected when I used it. It was taking 2 hours to start working and in by the third hour my glucose level would drop 200 to 250. It was also hard for me to sense when my blood sugar is low. That was very frustrating. After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog.
I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.

I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
My 9 year old son was changed to Humalog in October. Within 24 hours we noticed a complete change of personality. He became moody, violent to his siblings, abusive and completely unpleasant nearly all of the time. We stuck it out for a week and then changed him back to his normal insulin. His behaviour went back to normal very quickly.
We then put him back on the humalog and left him on it.

Type 1 for 40 years, good control but disagree with the constant increase in Lantus she adds every visit) Too many lows, not associated with Humalog, then too many rebounds after eating. I have almost perfect days when I slightly reduce the Lantus she prescribes. It's very frustrating, and she thinks this would be a good thing.
i where an minimed insulin pump and i get infections in the insertion site. humalog is not very stabe so maby try novolog or apidra. one reson for this is humalog has a active insulin time of more of 3 but novlog and apidra is 4. also you might want to try a tape kit it is where you put a tegaderm on your stomach and then insert the infusion set over that. usual that will help for some one like your child. i am not advised in the medical feild but i am a user of a pump.

My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
and weights well over 230 pounds only takes 34 units of lantus at night and up to 16 units of humalog if he eats pizza. I have told him that the lantus dose is governed by weight and since I weigh 220 and take 33 units a day, he isn't taking nearly enough. I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night.

I am on Humalog and Lantas. The doctor just changed me to taking Lantas at night. However I took it this morning and not sure if I should take it tonight also.
It seems to straighten out by my next meal, and I am wondering if this med is really needed. I have a coupon to get a free bottle, and then I need to order more syringes, and it seems like the road I just left to go on the pump.
I'd like to make my diabetes less of a focus, and I am concerned this additional step or steps will make meals and eating out more of a hassle than it already is.
