Common Questions and Answers about Hrt after hysterectomy for endometriosis

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn I have had uterus and cervix removed 11 years ago and my ovaries and fallopian tubes plus 1 pelvic cyst removed 7 years ago.I was put on hrt 8 years ago before my ovaries and fallopian tubes were removed. 6 mo after everything was out a new pelvic cyst grew on my cuff. Because of how many surgeries I have had down their the dr was worried about scar tissue and chose to remove fluid from the cyst instead of removing the cyst. At 5 years later they found a second cyst right next to the 1st one.
Avatar f tn I'm 41 and after 18 yrs of female problems including endometriosis, and 3 kids....my doctor has recommended laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had the uterine ablation procedure done 3 1/2 yrs ago but the irregular cycles and severe pain have returned. My doctor stated he would removed my right ovary for sure, as it is covered in scar tissue and causes a lot of pain. The question is should I keep my left ovary or not?
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have been "fast forwarded" into perimenopause. Hysterectomy can caused reduced ovarian function or failure. And removal of one ovary can make it more likely and quicker to happen. Reduced or absent ovarian function is associated with a number of increased health risks as well as reduced quality of life. Although HRT is not a true "substitute" for our ovaries, it can help with many of the symptoms and mitigates some of the increased health risks.
Avatar f tn I want to recommend, crwstar, if you have any endometriosis, ask them to excise, not laser burn. I did this for my hysterectomy, but was burned when I didn't know it with the first laporotomy. I later learned that it is better to cut than to burn, because the body treats the burns like foreign bodies and more scarring can happen. Adhesions are no fun.
Avatar m tn My surgeon believed that the pelvic adhesions were the cause of the horrific pain I was experiencing. I was fine for approx 3 years after my hysterectomy when the cramping and back pain returned with a vengeance. I was refereed to a surgeon who specializes in removing pelvic adhesion via key hole surgery. Had this op in 2010 and felt like a new woman after a 3 week recovery period...no cramping or back pain and a fantastic quality of life!!! Fast forward 18 months later and the pain was back.
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar f tn s lose their effectiveness and we have to increase the dose or switch to some other HRT. Endometriosis can complicate matters because all of the endo is seldom removed at the time of hysterectomy and can itself produce estrogen. So it is possible that it was helping to keep you supplied with estrogen but is no longer. Have you checked your estrogen levels periodically since your surgery? However, unfortunately, we cannot always go by levels.
8693404 tn?1399380569 He was adamant that he removed all my ovary and said that all my problems would be solved if I agreed to take HRT. I had refused to take HRT because my endometriosis was severe and I didn't want to risk any estrogen. I requested my GP run the FSH/estrogen blood test because I hadn't experienced any menopause symptoms. My consultant insisted that I must have just dealt with them well but I wasn't convinced. Thanks again.
659607 tn?1247116266 ve written to each other before, so if I may, I will say that as I recall, you had perhaps tingling and/or pain in your arms, right? I had the same problem about three years after my hysterectomy and in retrospect, it was when the doctor reduced the amount of Estradiol (the only type of estrogen I will use) and added Estriol to the mix. I am glad you got relief and keep researching this information just in case the pain returns. It may mean that you will have to adjust the hormone dose again.
1046985 tn?1305117048 t have been on any HRT for the past 6 months, bit late to tell me now. They have now switched me to a oestrogen/progesterone mix HRT in case any endo remains. I just don't know what or who to believe anymore. I am on 150mg pristiq (AD), 2.5mg Livial plus BP meds, oh and I also now have high cholestrol. I'm just about ready to give up AGAIN. Does this ever get better?????????
1074733 tn?1256231619 Over the past 10 years I have had numerous doctors tell me they thought I should be on HRT for symptoms I was having, and just because of the hysterectomy. This past summer our family doctor tried to put me on estrogen cream due to symptoms he believed are caused by low estrogen. I refused the prescription and told him I wanted a hormone panel done first. If the hormone panel came back saying I was low estrogen, then I would use the cream.
Avatar n tn I had a full open Hysterectomy about 12 years ago, when I was 36. I was on HRT for 9 years. I couldn't start for 18 months after the surgery due to severe endometriosis. I went off HRT for no particular reaosn other than I felt OK w/o it. Now I am having what I think are hot flashes at night. My thyroid (which I have had trouble with since I was 18) is all off, I have swollen lymph nodes for 2 years. Can you go through menopuase symptoms anyway??
1253584 tn?1332877954 Last Thursday i had a partial hysterectomy for the severe endometriosis i got diagnosed with a few months ago. Other than the post surgery pain i feel better. But, what im noticing is that i get these bouts of depression. It hit me last night when i was sitting on the porch looking up at the stars and suddenly felt this overwhelming feeling of a loss. I feel alone in this and was just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this.
477837 tn?1457461992 Has anyone had the endometriosis so bad that they had to have a hysterectomy because none of the medications to treat it would work? I am having one performed on Dec. 12th and wanted to know what things to expect right after surgery and then a month or 2 after. My dr. insists on me keeping 1 ovary because I'm 31 so I will have a bit of estrogen and I'm not sure if I will be taking any hormonal supplements. Main thing I would like to know is there really a loss of sexual drive.

Avatar f tn So what do you suggest I do? Live with my symptoms awhile longer? Have a total or partial hysterectomy? Go onto HRT.? I need advice, I'm way past miserable and so is my family, something's just gotta give here. Please help.
967168 tn?1477584489 I'm waiting on my regular gyn to confirm everything but the Dr doing my sono today said nothing looks "suspicious" for cancer; just worsening Endometriosis & Adenomyosis from my surgery in 2005 and last tests in 2007. I have to wait until Monday to talk to my regular Gyn he's not in the office on Friday's even though they set up my appt with him.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a hysterectomy in October 2007 due to very heavy bleeding. Prior to that, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and I have history of blood clots. I have just started the menopause but because of my history, I cannot take HRT or anything with oestrogen in it. Can anyone suggest anything I can take?
