cytomel

744962 tn?1270942038 who is a great doc for listening to how I feel and not just going on blood test results, would increase my T4 to try and help me lose weight. This would send me into overdrive (I would be nervous, tearful, shaky etc) but I would still gain weight. We noticed this a year ago and I started on a T3/T4 combination. I felt better within days. Better than I had felt in three years. And for the first time, I can slowly work on weight loss. My recommendation is that you go on how you feel.
Avatar n tn Cytomel is not a weight loss script - That is mis understood by many. It has nothing to do with metobolism if your hormones are not balanced. Some may lose weight while on it becuase of the direct T3 and increase in energy - but it shoudl never be Rx's for weight loss I can't believe your doctor gave it to you. DId your labs support the need for T3?
Avatar f tn I'd like to clarify something here, please. If I remember correctly, Luvlaughlin has Hashi's; she's not wanting to use cytomel JUST for weight loss. I believe her question is whether or not it does help with weight loss, most likely gained while hypo. Everyone is different, so whereas it might help some lose the weight they gained from being hypo, it won't help us all. Cytomel should only be taken if blood work and symptoms indicate that it's needed.
Avatar n tn The Thyroid Disorders Community is a great place to be as you work through stabilizing your medication regimen. I have the priviledge of knowing several of the members in this community and have found them to be most knowledgeable, caring, helpful and supportive. There is also an excellent Thyroid Tracker available as well! I see you are struggling with some weight issues, which can be common with various thyroid disorders.
Avatar f tn If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn You need to know those test results and then supplement as needed to optimize. D should be targeted for 55, B12 in the upper end of the range and ferritin should be about 70. Ferritin is very important to having good hair.
Avatar f tn Cytomel is therefore added to Synthroid to effect weight reduction. The effect of Cytomel takes a couple of weeks to set in. Cytomel can be given upto 100 mcg/day. So if you are on10 mcg/d and unable to lose weight it makes sense to increase to 25 mcg/d. Simultaneously Synthroid dose may need to be reduced slightly. Regarding any other laboratory tests besides thyroid profile at this point in time, I feel nothing else is necessary.
Avatar f tn This question I posted about the use of Cytomel breaking off my hair was for Hypothyroid not hyperthyroid. I had no symptoms of Hypo but was told I needed medication.
Avatar f tn Not saying that everyone will have the same result, but at least getting your metabolism to a level that is normal for your height, weight and age at least gives you the opportunity to lose and maintain, that you don't have when hypo.
Avatar n tn You might slip on over to Weight Loss and Dieting for a little extra help. There are some people over there that have great ideas and lots of support, along with games, challenges, to make the whole process fun. I will be going to a new endo at the end of Jan and I was wondering if adding cytomel to my synthroid might be an option too.
894666 tn?1274097896 Has anyone ever had a similar problem. If it is the cytomel, I think I need to stop taking it. I was hoping it would help with weight loss, which is has not.
1882966 tn?1320745459 I have thyroiditis been taking T3 Cytomel 25mcg x 2 and half my tsh go back to normal from 5.6 to 0.
Avatar f tn My doctor took my dose from 75 to 88 to 100 and 15 of cytomel. I asked to switch to naturethroid due to so much hair loss and sudden weight gains Doctor put my on 2 grains. I’ve been on it for 3 days. Any idea why i have no energy and headaches? I really want to switch back. I’m an educator and need energy for my kids at school. Should I give the naturehtroid more time since it has only been three days?
Avatar n tn that is my issue, I love working out and exercising and tend to be a chronic dieter to stay lean year around and I think I have screwed up my metabolism, for me to loose weight or bodyfat I literally have to drop my food intake to about 700 calories and have it consist of just protein and fat?? And Dr.
Avatar n tn Rule of thumb for FT4 is about mid range; your FT4 is only at 27% of its range, so you have a long way to go. FT4 should be brought up to mid range, as you need adequate FT4 to be converted to FT3 for cellular use; if FT3 doesn't track on up with it, then you increase T3 med. Your symptoms are what prompted me to ask about Lyme Disease. Many have it and don't know they've been exposed. Have you been tested for RA?
Avatar m tn When you were on 100 mcg Cytomel for weight loss, did it make you feel hyper at all? Did you lose weight while on it?
Avatar f tn only issue is that absorption can sometimes be altered if the medication is taken with food. Weight loss boils down to calories in and calories out -- cytomel will not likely help with weight.
Avatar f tn I am on 150mcg now and am still fat, tired and short of breath. Can adding cytomel help and can I use it even if I had thyroid ca?
705042 tn?1228721787 thank you that's how it went with the first heart med he gave me he started me out on a 50 mg dose and my grandmother is on the same dose after slowly going up over 5 years and i had the worst reaction to it that i took myself off because i could not take it, thank you for your advice
Avatar f tn NDT and Cytomel will work for some people. T4 meds work for some people. T4 and Cytomel will work for some. NDT only works for some. The bottom line is that it is not the type of med that matters most. The important thing is getting your biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 up to a level that relieve symptoms. That can be accomplished with adequate doses of T4 meds, if your body adequately converts T4 to T3.
927140 tn?1244210051 Phentermine is for weight loss and not many Doctors prescribe it which is why I am wondering why yours has. Either way...dont take the Celexa and Synthroid together at the same time. Synthroid must be taken on its own with water and then the other meds at least an hour later. I take a heart med first thing in the morning then my T4 med an hour later as sill me decided one morning to take them together and I felt as if I was walking on the moon!
Avatar f tn Cytomel really shouldn't be taken for weight loss. It's okay to take some, along with some T4, but you really should try for a balance between the two. Also, you are on a pretty high dose. The increase from 25 to 50 was huge. After two years on Cytomel, do you have any more weight to lose? Do you have peaks and valleys in your energy level throughout the day? How do you take your Cytomel? Do you split it into more than one dose?
Avatar f tn s fairly rare for somone to be on Cytomel only. Usually a small dose of Cytomel is added to the Synthroid, which may have to be reduced to accomodate the Cytomel. Cytomel (T3) is very fast-acting, so it has to be taken several times throughout the day if taken by itself. This leads to intra-day ups and downs in hormone levels. Do you have the results of your latest lab tests (FT3, FT4 and TSH) and their reference ranges?
