82861 tn?1333457511 If there is no infection than your dog has kidney damage or kidney failure, and you will have to treat agressively to save the kidneys by using Sub Q fluid therapy, phosphate binders if the phosphate is also elevated, kidney saving herbs such as Rehmannia 8 and more. Please write back once you have additional test results. Thanks.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Processed manufactured dog foods usually have the appropriate ratio of these minerals, but when an owner decides to produce home cooked food (for all the right reasons and with the best of intentions), the ratio is harder to achieve. In younger dogs, kidney stones and the resulting blocked urinary tract, inherited genetic defects affecting the kidneys, kidney infections and ingested poisons (notably anti-freeze and rodent-control poisons) can all cause phosphorus levels to rise.
1832268 tn?1326819610 The amount of phosphorus content is important too - try to maintain a diet that is low in phosphorus. Here's another article of mine on how diet affects kidney failure dogs: There are lots of other articles by me on canine kidney disease at: Hope some of this helps. If you join our group, please start a new thread with the name of your dog and a brief history (like your first post above).
Avatar f tn I would also urge you to try some rice bran, again if you can find it, as it is useful to bulk simple food and has several advantages to dogs in renal failure. Small meals more often is the way to go, if he'll have anything. You could also try making a broth with the meat, rice bran, boiled white rice, a spoonful of chopped boiled or steamed cabbage - just chop finely and boil up, let go cold and see if he'll lap it up. Broth is useful because it gets additional fluids in him.
Avatar m tn But, before teeth were removed, I had to have an expensive blood test to check all was ok. It surprising revealed Kidney failure. The vet discussed ways to treat it but said, even if it was treated, Rocky would only live about 3 to 6 months. He was peeing all night and I was up all night with him wanted to go outside. I thought, this is great because my baby is still asking to go outside. But, I never realize it was because of kidney failure that he was drinking so much.
1358341 tn?1282213443 Where to start, since you are familair with this disease and have some knowledge, I guess you know that dry food is the worst thing we are suppose to give to any cat who has kidney issues. My cat was a dry food junkie and it took awhile to convert her over to strictly canned food. She does not, and will not eat any kind of prescription kidney diet food..
661200 tn?1225486613 200 ccs a day. (100cc in the morning and at night). After a lot of vet visits and money we figured the signs out. He wouldn't urinate much, would stop eating, couldn't walk straight. So I watch for that. I also give him 50cc to 100 cc every few days (I do this at home. ASK your vet for the liquids and they will let you have it. My vet charges $15 for it.) It helps to keep his kidney functioning right.
2361255 tn?1339611918 I want to thank all of you so much for helping me through this and giving me all the advice on how to deal with kidney failure. All of you have said how horrible this disease is, and now I see why. I am so heartbroken that his warm little body won't be sleeping up against me anymore, that I won't be woken up to him rolling his face all over mine or that I won't get to laugh at all the funny things he does.
429209 tn?1224170189 I am trying, trying, trying to stay so very positive keeping myself up beat, I am just soo afraid of getting more kidney stones (which is how this all began) and having horific pain and then what do I do? I am scared of being in pain I guess and now not being able to take anything I guess I need to find out what doctors give patients who are allergic to like Oxycodone, hydrocodone any narcotics?
Avatar f tn But I know it occurs more so in older dogs. When Gucci was first diagnosed with this disease, we contacted the breeder to find out if any of the other pups in the litter were having same problems. They denied anything an pretty much blamed him having it on me because of treats I was giving him. Which could not of been true for the simple fact that our Gucci was to small for any treats that would of caused him renal kidney disease. So that was a dead end.
Avatar m tn One of the problems of high calcium is kidney stones and bladder stones can develop, so this is a matter not to be ignored. Your vet is suggesting euthanasia. I appreciate he is thinking old dog and kidney failure, so better to call it a day. There is some rational consideration to be thought about there. Personally, I can also understand you wanting to do everything you can to prolong life and improve quality of life.
Avatar f tn If it's been quite a while since the last round of x-rays, you might ask for another one to see if your girl has developed bladder or kidney stones. They may have been present previously but not large enough to see. Since UTIs have been a life-long problem for her, I think it's worthwhile to do some more in-depth testing to figure out why it keeps coming back. Have you paid much attention to how much water your dog drinks?
790669 tn?1465192699 We've had so many things happen, so many losses and I don't understand how I have yet to break. In March of 2014 we had to say goodbye to our furbaby of 13 years. The diagnosis was out of my control, we tried to treat him the best we could, keep him comfortable until it was time. I've said it many of times, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do..EVER and I still cry to this day for my sweet boy.
Avatar n tn I'm up to 10 to 15 a day now and take five just to get me moving in the morning. This is no way to live. How long and how hard are the with drawals from it? I don't want to live my life around this drug anymore. Just a word of encouragment some times is what I think I need and to know that I am not alone.
Avatar f tn Yes, the slide downward is small, but it's heading in the right direction. Things are improving!!! It is very common for dogs with CKF to develop anaemia. It means the bone marrow is unable to produce enough red blood cells. And in turn, this is caused by an inability to produce erythropoietin, one of the hormones involved in red cell production. Your vet needs to undertake a blood test for levels of erythropoietin.
685623 tn?1283485207 First, let me state that I am not affiliated with any pet food manufacturer, I receive no money from anyone who makes pet food and I don’t sell pet food. Basically, I don’t have a dog in the hunt (to use a phrase common to us back home in West Virginia). The poster at our other forum wanted to know why veterinarians recommend Science Diet when “they have inferior ingredients and no meat in the diets”.
82861 tn?1333457511 Chica's latest results were faxed to us, and in 4 days, her BUN went from 84 to 148; Creatinine from 5.5 to 7.2. Since Reglan is processed in the kidneys, and her kidneys are so much worse, I'm assuming she built up toxic levels of reglan and experienced an extrapyramidal result. I gave her one benadryl last night, and that helped calm down the trembling. By this morning, it was all gone and her breathing is normal.
Avatar f tn I felt so bad leaving her outside so much and the other dogs got to come in. By the way, Lady also had recurrent bladder infections, for some reason, she hasn't had one since we started this regimen 2 years ago. Hope OP has as good of luck as we had. As far as the nodules or growths, if they cause no pain don't treat it. So for two meds a night we enjoy her again as part of our family. No stress of her barking begging to come in and join us, which was really sad, therefore no stress on us.
Avatar f tn Just checking in to see how things are going. I hope you've had some kind of "sign" to help you with your decision.
162948 tn?1205256292 I had the mirena in for about 13 months & had it removed end of august to try to get pregnant. I had thought it was more immediate. I found out it can take 3-6 months for your cycle to return. my husband and I are pretty bummed because we would have removed it earlier (or never had it put in). Anyway, I bled a few days after removal (probably due to the removal) & then nothing until a couple days of brown spotting at the beginning of this month.
Avatar n tn I am sick and tired of being all consumed as to how many I have, where I am going to find more when I run out, etc. I had to cancel a trip to see my first grandchild and that is just pathetic..
Avatar n tn for the past few years ive had persistent pain, and have been to a urologist. I have a large stone in the left kidney. They suggested i have a PERC done, but since the pain has been somewhat manageable, i havent done anything. especially since they told me that the stone in the kidney doesnt usually cause pain and there were no guarantees this would even solve my problem. So this morning, the pain was a little more aggravating than usual.
Avatar f tn I was so full of cancer they had me in cancer in days. I had cancer in a dozen places Statistically I should not be here. I am about to go to Europe. I ride horses, swim and hour and train dogs. I have had over two years of chemo. I only lost my hair once with my first treatment. Most of my treatments have been fine. If it were not been for hospital visits I would not think I have cancer. It is not something I want but it is not the worst thing that could happen to me either.
Avatar f tn i was medicated heavily but at least safe from the self harm. Once i had stabilized and was doing well in therapy i decided to go back to school and become a veterinry technician. Having classes to focus on helped the disorders started to diminish. i eventually weaned myself off all the meds and after i graduated school i worked in a specialty hopital.. i fell in love with the work.. it gave me such a good feeling everyday. Having to give up my carreer after 16 yrs was very hard.
Avatar n tn I am ok, but if I wake up in the morning hours; I am in severe pain - in the lower back (kidney area, right and left hip (on the sides) and upper back in the middle. After about 30 min to 1 hr; it goes away. I have a sedentary job and if I sit too long, my hips will ache again and makes it slightly painful to get out of chair, but nothing like the morning.
541150 tn?1306037443 a better option to nasty pain pills that can cause your cat emotional distress. Just be sure to administer it orally, as the in water dosage is really to difficult to monitor for any real success. I would suggest going on one of the pure meat diets that are out there with a vitamin supplement. that way Abby won't get the stress to her digestive system that comes from trying to cope with grains, fillers, and ash by products. Otherwise, we'll be thinking fondly of Abbey.
Avatar m tn I will continue to keep you and Dasi in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know how your little Dasi is doing.
Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
1035252 tn?1427231433 THank you Sudie and Sara - you guys are a great part of my cheerleading team! Vicki - your righteous indignation on my part warms my heart....hehe. I'm doing alright. I started the taper today...I know we can't do specifics but I am taking a slightly smaller amount (I have a pill cutter) a slightly longer time apart. I'm going to take 1/4 of a .
