Avatar m tn As the others have said, you have no risk. If you're unable to do your job as a result of your irrational phobia of HIV, you need to speak to your supervisor about being reassigned to a position in which you won't be around patients or needles because you're likely to make a mistake due to your phobia.
Avatar m tn I am afraid I stepped on a syringe(iI know you are thinking this is crazy but yea damn OCD) I know this fear is ocd but I am trying to think of facts to confront this fear with,it worked with fear of HIV and oral sex.
Avatar f tn Now the situation which created trauma or anxiety to me ,I told the lab assistant that i had a kind of phobia about Hiv kindly took procedure accordingly.she took the needle and i stopped her whether she changed it or not on this she gavr me the entire lot of needle and ask me to choose one and reopen it . I did the same .but still i had a fear wheather the same needle used or by mistake she used the hiv patient needle. Although she inserted it in my vain and receive the blood.
Avatar m tn You seem to have a needle phobia related to HIV, and we strongly suggest you seek counseling for that phobia. NO MATTER WHAT, you aren't going to be infected by a needle unless you are sharing needles that are used to inject people with. Blood draws do not inject into you - they draw out of you. Needlesticks are a very small concern.
Avatar f tn I have had OCD since I can remember. I now have developed a phobia of needles. I work in a health care setting (hospital) where shots are given daily. Although I am not the one giving the shots, I still feel fear everyday that I will come across a needle and accidently get poked by it and get an infectious disease of some sort. I have tried talking to my family and friends about this phobia amongst other mental health issues but they don't seem to understand.
Avatar f tn One last question, by sharing needles, what u meant is only IV needle with a barrel or any kind of needles such like sewing needles?? I know I seem to hav OCD and I sometime worries about being pricked by people with sewing needle with infected blood on. I promise this will be my last question and thank u guys so much for your patience!!
Avatar n tn My question is, is it possible that if he re used the box on me that he had used on one of the positive people could he have given me hiv. Does the needle have to be a hollow needle or can one of these little finger ***** needles pass it on and since the person before me did show positive would the small drops of blood that would have his positive blood mixed in make my test positive. Has anyone ever caught hiv from a finger *****? Please help.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar n tn I am 31 years old and quite heavily tattooed all over my body but yet the thought of needles or getting blood tests still makes me feel faint & squeamish!! I'm almost 9 weeks and just had an appointment with my midwife. She gave me the date for my blood tests next week (which I'll be going to alone) & I warned her I'm terrible around needles. She laughed and assumed I'd be easy cuz of all my ink... unfortunately, they are 2 very different types of needles.
Avatar f tn Team, Goodday to all, today I my office, one customer just came to the back of my shoulder and touched me, but I felt pain like something pocked with needle. Suddenly I turned back I did not see any needle. If he has inserted needle in my shoulder, can I get infected by HIV virus. I heard hiv don’t survive outside.
Avatar m tn The nurse open the new needle in front of me but i refused to use the needle that she open on me. The nurse then put the 1st needle on the table and she ask me to get a new needle and open it.. When i open the needle and fix it the nurse put the 2nd needle again in the same table where the first needle was placed.. Even a single second i did not miss to look away to that needle but when the nurse drawn my blood she inform me not look and i follow her.
Avatar n tn In another followup, would it be easier for somebody to reuse needles if they are for instance... giving somebody a shot opposed to taking blood? I can't recall how the needle worked, if they need to detach something from it in order to take the blood sample out of the needle.
Avatar m tn For the past 5 years I have been dodging doctors to the best of my ability due to a fear of needles / medical procedures. In addition there is a deep fear of simply finding out "somethings wrong". I already know I have high blood pressure which I do my best to control with diet and exercise but I still need help. I had a doctor for 10 years that I called my primary care physician but really only saw him a handful of times.
Avatar m tn You are stuck in the viscious cycle of doubt. Needles are not reused. Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD or Anxiety in general? It is hard to say whether this is OCD or Health Anxiety.
4526747 tn?1356283415 I have sever needle phobia they had to prick my finger to check my blood, like diabetics checking their sugar levels
847195 tn?1296171647 You have a terrible fear for needles or needle phobia called Trypanophobia. Cognitive behavior therapy and systemic desensitization towards the object you fear will have to be carried out by a psychotherapist for curing this. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have a terrible fear/phobia of contracting hiv and hepatitis c. I've had it since I was 15 (now25) but have been able to deal with it. It was only 6 months ago that it has completely taken over my life. I cant look forward to the future and there is at least 5/6 situations a day where I think I am in danger of it. I have seen a psychologist but it just seemed as though I was talking to a kindergarten teacher. I am on 80mg of Prozac but to be honest it hasn't helped one bit!
Avatar f tn I do credit myself for improving, which in the past, I would fear the touch of everyday objects, but now, I have narrowed my phobia down to almost a single concern. I have the fear of coming across a dirty needle, which will stick either my baby, girlfriend, or I. Its a horrible feeling. I fear when my girlfriend wears sandals. Its ridiculous. At times, my mind plays tricks on me, where I see "syringes" on the ground.
Avatar f tn s impossible to get stuck with a needle and not feel it. I happen to have a needle phobia specifically because of how much it hurts whenever I've gotten stuck by a needle. It's really funny to me that there are people who would think it doesn't hurt because I know how much it does hurt every time I've ever gotten stuck for a blood test or an IV or a shot or to get a tattoo or even just when I was sewing an accidentally stuck myself.
Avatar f tn Can you give me advice how to deal with my anxiety?
Avatar f tn I have had my first antinatal appoitment (im 10 weeks) and have been told to book a blood test. I have done this but i have the worst phobia of needles.
1142899 tn?1261154753 I haven't seen a doctor in about 5 years because of some traumatic events which escalated my needle phobia. I know I really should get a physical exam one of these days. I don't want to risk having another doctor who'd traumatize me further. I need to know how to find a doctor who: 1. Cares enough to be patient with me 2. Doesn't tell me to "suck it up" or "stop being a wimp" or "it doesn't hurt" 3.
Avatar f tn Talk this over with your parents so they can get you therapy to learn how to break free of this fear. Good luck and take care!
Avatar f tn t make sense to keep coming back here every time to ask us if the people who give needles all day know how to do their job.
