1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar m tn I dont avoid engaging in public speaking,i try speaking in public the least chance i get but very short statements.I did some few reading about beta blockers and i saw that it help relieve anxiety . i once complained to my Dr but He says is nothing to worry about.I was given vitamin B6 and Magnesium combined for tremors. If Beta blockers help with anxiety why does my heart races, voice and hand still shake in public activities like speaking and suturing infront of my classmates.
Avatar f tn m horribly shy, but I took acting classes and public speaking to learn to manage it. I now speak to people pretty readily, despite breaking out a back sweat every time. Try to figure out what it is you're scared of. It isn't the dark, it's something ABOUT the dark. I'm not scared of speaking in front of people, I'm scared of looking like an idiot. But? Most often, they don't care. And they feel the same. If I calm myself and understand my fear, I can manage my fear.
Avatar m tn Self-help books and Public Speaking classes will teach you how to handle yourself if that does happen...........you will learn to relax, even to make fun of any blunders and how to get back on track. Some people resort to using antianxiety drugs before a public appearance, but I don't agree or endorse that route at all. Far better to learn coping methods naturally, and not rely on a crutch that could backfire in many negative ways.
Avatar m tn If you have a fear of heights, you might drive three hours out of your way to avoid crossing a tall bridge. Or if the prospect of public speaking leaves your stomach in knots, you might skip your best friend’s wedding in order to avoid giving a toast. Aside from the inconvenience factor, the problem with avoiding your fears is that you never have the chance to overcome them. In fact, avoiding your fears often makes them stronger.
1807579 tn?1317173697 It does not survive on fomites of any kind like tables, chairs, door handles, public phones or public toilets etc,so you have nothing to fear.If you can overcome your OCD condition you won,t be afraid anymore.Beat the OCD fear and you will overcome the hiv fear. All the best.
Avatar f tn Maybe your kids will have to go to public school, you may have to downsize your living arrangements etc. I know this is easier said than done but to rely on your husband right now is only going to get you further in the hole. You said you love the stability you have but i dont see it. I hope you continue with alanon.
Avatar m tn I try to control my attacks before they start because I know what types of situations trigger them....work.....driving....speaking in public....large groups.....interviews....foreign situations.....etc.... Anybody has any advice on ways to deal with anxiety, panic and fear without medicines? I really want to get it under control because it's hindering me from finding a job. Thanks in advance!!
590280 tn?1310087366 i stay away from anyone or anyplace that is likely to be using, buying or selling. i try to stay close to people who are serious about recovery. i remember how bad it can get, and i haven't forgotten how to pray. oxycontin was my best friend to the tune of 600-800 mg a day as was alcohol. my best friend almost killed me and i saw it kill others, only after it took away their dreams, relationships and dignity and reduced them to empty shells of what they once were.
Avatar m tn Mine was a little nicer :)
Avatar n tn We had a plan for me to take it temporarily until I could engage in some exposure therapy to overcome my fears. What to do?? My doc said to keep taking it, that my symptoms were probably just anxiety, but I assured her that I really thought it was the medicine, so she said to stop taking it for peace of mind. Problem is that without it, I have no peace of mind.
Avatar n tn I feel happy and comforted to know that I'm not alone having this problem.I have been searching the solution to this problem but till now I can't find it.I too can smile when I am near to family members and relatives or someone I know well but whenever I am near to people i am not familiar with,I just can't smile no matter how hard I try.It makes me feel miserable and depressed.I can't fight it.When I forced myself to smile,I look like I'm going to cry. This is really weird.
Avatar f tn If your problem is you are "too" shy when dealing with one or more people, I suggest is isn't a drug that you need. Rather you need help in facing this shyness and beating it down. This can/must be started in small steps. Pick something simple, like one situation that doesn't involve lots of people like public speaking, and condition yourself to deal with it. A good one would be talking with one other person who makes you nervous or otherwise troubled.
Avatar m tn If you want to investigate medication, it's completely up to you. Public speaking anxiety is said to respond well to beta blockers, so if that's your one problem -- and it is said to be the most common phobia of all -- you might investigate them. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Talk this over with your parents so they can get you therapy to learn how to break free of this fear. Good luck and take care!
Avatar m tn their is no chance of HIV without condom breakage...to overcome your fears ...take a test....taking a test can come out of fear 99% than googing...
Avatar m tn I am afraid I stepped on a syringe(iI know you are thinking this is crazy but yea damn OCD) I know this fear is ocd but I am trying to think of facts to confront this fear with,it worked with fear of HIV and oral sex.
Avatar f tn I really keep those who suffer this in my heart because I know how hard it is. Have you been able to talk to anyone about it or work on this at all? I think summer (if you are in the US) is one of the hardest times.
Avatar f tn First, don't take this if you're on medication targeting serotonin receptors, such as an ssri or snri. Assuming you're not on medication, the answer is, maybe, maybe not. The same answer you'd get if you went on medication. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. Second, 5-HTP isn't a vitamin -- it's an amino acid, a metabolite of L-tryptophan, which along with co-factors such as B6 (which is a vitamin) us used by the body to manufacture serotonin.
Avatar n tn I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night. My question is how did anyone overcome their fear of going to the dentist and is there some kind of home remedy I can take for this toothache any input would be appreciated Thanks!!
Avatar f tn reading about it dont help it will just heighten your anxiety, the recorded deaths are tragic, but in comparrison to the success rate of themit do put it in to a prospective, just tell your fears to the person who is going to give you the needle ask any questions you need to ask and remember they cannot force you to have anything done that you dont wish to have done.
Avatar f tn m someone that does believe medicine can greatly help but if you are not wanting that type of intervention, then you at least need to go the route of working with a professional to learn how to handle your anxiety in other ways.
