Avatar n tn Is it possible for a fasting blood sugar to elevate from anxiety in the doctors office. My blood pressure can. It has gone from 140/70 to 110/58 in just five minutes at the clinic. I hate the doctors office. Even though my best friend is my internist, I get torqued out big time.

Avatar f tn I guess this will happen unless I can bring down my blood sugar level within the next month - (Is this possible to do such a thing)? This is all new to me and I am trying to educate myself. I am a cigarette smoker as well and I believe this is the first problem I should work on, but I'm not sure where to start. I would welcome any advise offered.
Avatar n tn egg with mayonaise, some cheese and nuts, etc). By eating at night you may be able to help your morning blood sugar be a bit lower. When you have extended fasting your liver can put out glucose. By eating a small snack you may be able to prevent your liver doing this. hope this helps. Please come back and let us know how you're going. Often diabetes in preganncy will get worse as the pregnancy progresses (insulin resistance increases as the pregnancy progresses and the placenta grows).
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
Avatar m tn Using the eAG [estimated Average Glucose] formula to convert the A1c to an daily glucose average equates to 148.46 mg/dl, well into diabetes land. And, having postprandial [after meal 2-3 hrs] readings over 400 mg/dl is dangerous.
Avatar f tn Withania somnifera, aka ashwagandha, has been used in India for thousands of years to treat multiple ailments. No human clinical trial and/or study has been performed to verify its glucose lowering properties except on lab rats - "Effect of Withania somnifera on insulin sensitivity in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus rats. Anwer T, Sharma M, Pillai KK, Iqbal M.".
Avatar n tn Drug-induced hypoglycemia is seen with the inadvertent or intentional overdose of insulin or oral medications used to lower blood glucose. Blood glucose-lowering pills and insulin are medications used to lower the abnormally high blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Examples of blood glucose-lowering pills are glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, and Glynase) and glipizide (Glucotrol).
Avatar n tn Her blood sugar probably really IS that high, and this is extremely dangerous -- could be life-threatening. It really is imperative that she have a true lab test done to see if there really is a blood sugar problem. She could do a glucose test in the lab to compare the number with the number that the lab gets if she thinks that her machine is in error. Which doesn't seem likely to me since your husband's result was normal and significantly lower than hers.
Avatar n tn if he is a little bit low, give him a little bit of juice (it doesn't take very much -- say about a half cup or maybe 3/4 cup) and then give him about a half hour to digest the juice and feel better before trying to get him to eat or do anything. It may take that long for his glucose levels to rise to normal and for him to feel OK. Do get him to a doctor to see if you can find out why he is having the seizures.
798555 tn?1292791151 That's partly because the proper cholesterol manufactures our hormones, and sugar metabolism must be somewhat balanced for that to happen properly. As for how much cinnamon to take, I can't tell you, because I can't measure your blood sugar -- it depends on how much you need to lower it or whether it needs lowering at all. So I'm deferring to the professionals here. Just know you have picked a very useful herb for the purpose you're researching and one very well researched.
Avatar f tn Hi, During pregnancy normal blood sugar can be a bit lower and I was given a normal range of 60 - 100 (approx). The meal you ate sounds to be low carb and would be digested quite slowly. If you feel perfectly fine your sugar levels in the 60s may not be a problem (though definitely keep an eye on it). Howver you may have seen something very different (and high) had you eaten a high carb meal (pancakes, pasta, or rice).
Avatar m tn Exercise daily will also help with blood sugar control. Use oral or injectable meds to control sugar levels. Best practice for diabetes is to start even persons with Type 2 on insulin early. Starting insulin while your pancreas is still working means lower doses of injected insulin - enough to support your pancreas rather than replace it, which is safer than having to depend totally on insulin. Please research and read up on diabetes.
Avatar n tn Yes I'm not going to lie its hard if you are used to eating sweets. I had to be put in meds to lower my sugar level. I hope everything goes good for you. From the bottom of my heart I do hope you don't have gestational diabetes. Let me know how everything goes :) good luck!!
Avatar n tn While you are waiting to see your doctor, try excercising (it is a natural way to lower your blood sugar). Even a walk will help. If you don't feel up to it, make sure you stay away from sugary, white foods (things high in carbohydrates). 276 is a fairly high reading, the range should be 80-120. Mine is typically 110-170, although after a meal it has been in the 200's. My husband just found out he has diabetes also, and his was 479 when he found out!
Avatar n tn Long term high blood sugars can lead to complications like he tingling feeling you have, as the extra glucose in your system. The first thing you need to do is figure out how to lower your blood sugars. Changing your diet, increasing your exercise, adjusting your carb ratios, these are all things you can do to lower your blood sugars. Lowering them will do more to prevent complications than anything else. 150 is not a low blood sugar for anyone, it's on the high side of normal.

Avatar f tn If your doctors don't explain things to you such as how the prednisone influences the blood sugar and what you should be doing to treatyour diabetes, you may need to see an endo. Also, if you want, send me a private message and I will give you the name of a couple websites where there are a lot of diabetics and I'm sure someone will be able to explain the role of prednisone.
325405 tn?1262293778 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar n tn Hi Pael. Your average number of 115 is reasonable, though it is slightly higher than would be considered non-diabetic. If you can keep your numbers around this level or slightly better is great. Keep working with your dr as well. For reference non-diabetic numbers are in the following ranges:- 1. Fasting and before eating: 70 - 95 (in the 80s is considered perfect). 2. Post eating (2 hours or when blood sugar peaks): 90 - 140, but ideally < 120).
Avatar n tn when you eat carbohydrates your body turns them to sugar, your pancreas releases insulin to lower BG (Blood Sugar) but makes too much insulin and causes your BG to drop too much. Eat less carbs have less BG swings. You say you have hypos after eating, what are your BG numbers or are you just calling them hypos because of your symptoms.
Avatar n tn 9 is definitely a diabetic level, but not extremely high. What is important is to have your Type diagnosed and to learn how to manage your diabetes to keep it under control. There is a lot you can do towards that end but you will have to learn about it after your Type is clarified. Let us know how your appointment goes with your doctor Monday.
Avatar m tn You may want to discuss this with your doctor, especially if you notice changes in how your glucose tests read since you began taking this medication. I would advise you to perhaps do more frequent glucose tests than usual (perhaps every 3 hours or so), write down the readings and then if you notice abnormalities, call your doctor and discuss this with him or her.
Avatar n tn if you have a particularly harrowing thing to do, the dentist, a blood draw, make sure you eat beforehand and after...those excitement hormones tend to lower blood sugar as well...hope this helps...
Avatar n tn Testing will include testing insulin levels, glucose levels, c-peptide and antibody tests. To help control blood sugars you also need to eat low carb, moderate protein, higher (healthy) fats diet. Paleo style or modified atkins are 2 ways of eating that follow lower carb eating. Exercise will also help, however, it is not recommended to exercise when levels are 300 - 400.
Avatar n tn You feel low at relatively lower value just becuase you are not used to it. Also rapid changes in blood sugar can make you feel bad. 2. Humalog should be taken before meals - 15 - 20 minutes before. If you are going high at 40 minutes it is becuase rice is easily digestible and the sugar from the rice is hitting before the humalog can cover it. Do not take the humalog after (only before).
Avatar f tn Exercise, as a general rule, will lower the blood sugar and regular exercise will help a diabetic lower or maintain a blood sugar level close to normal.
863754 tn?1239148355 I'm not a doctor, but was thinking that if she had pancreatic cancer in the islets of langerhans region of her pancreas, that it's possible that it's continuously over-producing insulin, which is causing her cells to burn away all the glucose, because the insulin keeps letting more glucose into the cells. That's just one idea and I really don't know what's going on. If their's anyone out there that would help me save her life, I'd be forever greatful. She's a great woman.
