Avatar n tn There is also increased risk of insulin resistance, hypertension, and abnormalities of cholesterol and triglycerides in women with PCOS. Due to these risks, we advise our patients with PCOS to have the complete metabolic assessment with complete lipid panel testing and a two hour glucose tolerance test. Your daughter should have a complete hormone work up including total testosterone, DHEAS and 17-OH progesterone and also be tested for prediabetes or diabetes.

Avatar n tn One, they regulate the menstrual cycle, protect the endometrium (inside lining of the uterus) from overgrowth due not ovulating, and two they decrease the amount of androgens (testosterone like hormones) in the blood minimizing common symptoms of PCOS including acne, male pattern hair growth, and hair thickening. In the future conceiving may be complicated by irregular ovulation (ovulation is the time of the menstrual cycle when a cyst on the ovary releases an egg to be fertilized by sperm).
Avatar f tn The GYN saw the polycystic ovaries and when I went back to my endo, she said my blood test results are perfect, I have no thyroid problem, no hormonal imbalances, both my free testosterone index and regular testosterone are in normal ranges according to this new result. So she talked to my GYN on the phone and she said she cannot confirm my former diagnosis of PCOS with completely normal testosterone levels and ovulation present. My periods had been completely normal up to the age of 24.
Avatar f tn Hello, These symptoms can be due to a thyroid disease or PCOS. PCOS is a problem in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance. So ovaries develop more follicles than normal every month.Diagnostic tests are 2 hr GTT,serum androgen and testosterone levels,LH-FSH ratio, prolactin levels,TSH levels,17-hydroxyprogesterone levels and 3D ultrasound.
1907238 tn?1340711313 Metformin is also used to treat PCOS and Adrenal Hyperplasia in women suffering from infertility. It works to combat insulin resistance, a common symptom of PCOS. It also helps to decrease DHEA, a hormone made by the adrenal glands, as well as to suppress testosterone production. I have a high level of DHEA and testosterone, but don't fall into any clinical diagnosis. My doctor just started me on Metformin due to this and a recent pregnancy loss.
Avatar n tn You probably should have tests just to make sure - the diagnosis of PCOS is really not that hard to make. But, I always go to an endocrinologist with this, I've noticed that my doc. really does not know much about my condition.
Avatar f tn PCOS usually happens when a hormone called LH (from the pituitary gland) or levels of insulin (from the pancreas) are too high, which then causes the ovaries to make extra amounts of testosterone. This is how pcos is diagnosed. https://www.webmd.com/women/do-i-have-pcos#1 Blood work and checking these levels is part of it. They also do a physical exam, possibly an ultrasound, take a full history, Blood work includes fsh and lh as well as testosterone. Also estrogen.

Avatar m tn Iam looking for any way possible to DECREASE my libido or testosterone. Please don't ask why that is not the matter. I have been on a few anti depressants and also a few ADD med's, I have tried the mental ways too. I am looking for a possible herbal, or medical solution for this mostly, but i am openy suggestions. Please do not criticize or try and explain why i shouldn't try this.
Avatar f tn With PCOS it is best to do what your doctor recommends. I also have PCOS and it took me 30 months to conceive and that was with a ton of fertility drugs and great advice from my doctor. If your testosterone levels are high then most likely you have PCOS and metformin is probably your best bet at this time. I hope you get your positive test soon!
Avatar m tn How to decrease libido? I have a high sex drive and this has been been bothering me for quite a while, as it is hard to concentrate in other things (sometimes impossible). Is there some natural herb to help?
Avatar f tn My dr did not really bother doing blood tests, and i did not know how serious this could be(pcos). I went today for another u/s, b/c of BAD pain in left ovary. Well I saw why! I still have all those cysts, plus a HUGE looking one on left ovary. it hurts tosit even. The lady was nice enough to giver me a view of the screen. She also was very helpful, and said- it's definatly pcos.

Avatar m tn Now how do I explain to my husband what PCOS is and how is affects me physically, mentally and emotionally so that he understands why I feel the way I do? I'm afraid he won't believe me or just figure I'm making excuses for my "laziness". Anyone have a similar experience or have any suggestions?
Avatar n tn 14 and my Testosterone was also elevated at 79. During my research about high Testosterone in woman PCOS is something that came up more often than anything else. If you could please help me with any information available I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much!
Avatar m tn I had been prescribed a supplement for the treatment of acne and the salts in that supplement contain myo -inositol, D-Chiron Inositol, Chromium and Vitamin D3 and I have been taking these for 3 months now. I haven't been diagnosed with any PCOS or hormonal imbalance in my reports. Is it safe to take these supplements without any side effects as i read on internet these supplements are used for PCOS treatment mainly.
374593 tn?1257879950 FSH ratio was consistent with PCOS, anyhow i got the testosterone level today and they said it was 68 (i guess it should be under 75 they said) but that anything over 30 its really too much... They said we won't do anything different this cycle, but we need to get the LH level down.. Does anyone know how that is done?? are there any ways of lowering testosterone either?? Has anyone had similar ? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn An isolated elevated testosterone level also does not rule in or out PCOS. If you are having irregular periods, in addition to infertility, you probably DO have PCOS. The important thing to consider is what medications will help you ovulate regularly so that you can conceive. A combination of Clomid and Metformin was shown to produce the best results in a recent study. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Hi, It is unlikely that a relationship which is other wise healthy and only lacks in sexual realtionships, would lead to a decrease in testesterone. I would ascribe this to the opposite nad would rather say that the low testesterone and hypothyroidism could be reponsible for this condition. You may have to get this sorted from your doctor and get expert advise. Let me know if you may need any more help.
706214 tn?1244523049 metformin, if you are found to be insulin resistant will make your hormones even out. Its the most effective & least costly in treatment of PCOS but you will need to have a fasting insulin and then, insulin tolerance test to determine if you are insulin resistant.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed after having my first baby 8 years ago. After having my last baby in September my thyroid has been really up and down. When I seem to get it under control, it goes up and down again. I also have about 30 pounds to lose. I started dieting and exercising and was not losing any weight. I then had some tests done and found out I have high testosterone. The dr said it could be PCOS, but my insulin came back really low. Are there any other tests I should ask? I feel sick all the time.
Avatar f tn Having PCOS has nothing to do with the fact of not being able to orgasm. Most women cannot orgasm with sex alone, I've only had a handful of orgasms during sex in my life, and I've been active for 10 years now. Most need clitourus stimulation to acheive an orgasm.
Avatar f tn The elevated testosterone is not likely due to the thyroid condition or treatment. Would agree that PCOS should be looked into.....not enough to diagnose with this information alone....
5981477 tn?1396042614 t give up hope there may not be a cure for pcos but there is a high success rate for pregnancy in people with pcos xx
Avatar f tn Hi Redblues This is the thing, the only thing i can think of that's changed recently is that i have started back at the gym earnestly since January. I had a reading of fsh 27 around May of last year, i found this site thereafter and started taking DHEA, Wheatgrass pills, Milk Thistle and Agnus Cactus. I was working in a microbiology dept and was able to get my blood tests done for free on a regular basis, the fsh levels went down to the lowest being 11.
Avatar n tn I also had a ultrasound done last month to look at my ovaries and everything was good and they saw a mature follice in my ovarie so i was getting ready to ovulate. So i dont no if i have pcos or not my Dr. wants me to see a fertilty Dr.Do u think elevated testosterone levels be the reason i cant get pregnant? My husband is getting a sperm checkup next week....he had one 7 yrs ago and it was normal. Im going crazy searching for answers.
