laryngitis

Avatar f tn Laryngitis. Laryngitis is one of the most common causes of hoarseness. It can be due to temporary swelling of the vocal folds from a cold, an upper respiratory infection, or allergies. " http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/voice/pages/vocalabuse.aspx A few days, could even be some thing as simple as temporary strained vocal cords.
Avatar f tn I had a bad cold and then got laryngitis. That lasted 3 weeks and then the 4th week my voice came back but still hoarse. I have pain on my left side of my neck and tenderness on that side when I swallow. Dr checked me out and said throat is not red and gave me pills for acid reflux. It's been 4 days and don't think its acid reflux....voice and neck still the same. Anyone know what it could be ??
Avatar f tn t want to even speculate. He really needs to go to a medical facility to have this properly looked at.
Avatar m tn Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn Flexeril or cyclobenzaprine or baclofen are not associated with hoarseness of voice. More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference.
Avatar n tn is it safe to use spiriva and advair together my sister has had laryngitis for 4 weeks
396332 tn?1320003615 Chronic acid reflux leads to uncomplicated GERD, but not everyone with GERD has heartburn. The primary symptoms of GERD are heartburn, regurgitation, and nausea. Heartburn usually is described as a burning pain in the middle of the chest. It may start high in the abdomen or may extend up into the neck. Sometimes the pain may be sharp or pressure-like, rather than burning. Such pain can mimic heart pain (angina). In other patients, the pain may extend to the back.
139126 tn?1255036991 3 weeks post op for thyroidectomy. Had virtually no voice issues until about 4 days ago when I started to get a little hoarse. It almost feels as if I'm starting to get laryngitis. I am talking more than I was post op but I'm wondering if this is normal and if it's happened to any others? Hot tea seems to help but my voice is definately weaker than it was right after the surgery.
Avatar f tn I have been having trouble for almost a year now with breathing problems and hoarseness and just general fatigue. I am a very active person and this has really started to take a toll on me. All of my blood work came back fine, so I am being sent to an ENT. With having the complications, do you think I will be looking at them wanting to remove these nodules or is there a way to drain them? What do you think I can expect?
Avatar m tn I have researched this subject and found out that every time we clear our throats our vocal cords bang together. When we do that, our bodies respond to the clearing by producing mucous to coat/protect the cords. Which then causes the lump feeling and the need to clear our throats again. Thus causing our voices to get hoarse and raspy. You had asked if the fluids could irritate your throat, I would think that even if your stomach is not acidic, it still could irritate your vocal cords.
Avatar n tn Hello, In some patients, acid can reflux into the throat causing inflammation of the back of the throat which can lead to pharyngitis, or into the vocal cords, which can lead to laryngitis and hoarseness. Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found.

1090601 tn?1257512779 Did anyone else experience hoarseness prior to pituitary surgery? I was hoarse for 4 months prior to the surgery and told it wasn't likely going to be the reason. I had 2 surgeries in 4 days. The first left my voice worse but after the 2nd my family noticed in the recovery room it was normal.
Avatar f tn I have had laryngitis and hoarseness, which is getting worse now. In my 6th wk of treatment and wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Have had in the past, never this bad. Any thoughts would be appreiciated. Other then normal allergies, and some fatigue, no other changes. Could my liver have an effect on my vocal cords, throat,, etc.?
Avatar f tn There is increasing evidence that GERD causes laryngeal signs and symptoms. Symptoms of reflux laryngitis include hoarseness, throat clearing, dysphagia, increased phlegm, and globus (feeling of lump in one’s throat) sensation. Despite suspected epidemiologic reports, there is still controversy about the prevalence of GERD-related laryngeal signs and symptoms. Studies have shown that 24-hour pH monitoring may not be the perfect test for diagnosing atypical GERD.
Avatar f tn I have been having problems with gerd and gastritis! I recently had an endoscopy and the results showed that I have very mild esophogitis and normal stiomach although the biopsies showed minimal gastritis! This started two months ago. I was first put on omeprazole 20mg twice a day because I started off with nausea! It helped but then came back with a vengeance. My doc then put me on Protonix 40 mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn After FNA biopsy, they still could not tell if they were cancerous or not, so I chose to roll the dice and have the right side removed, hoping to cure the hoarseness and keep the other 1/2. Surgery went fine, felt great, could sing better right after surgery. Then the path report said I had cancer, so that meant the other side had to go. I had five tumors, biggest was 1.5 cm.
Avatar f tn I need advise on the tests that I need to do that I can suggest to my doctor, what medicines I need to take, and what I can do to take care of my throat. Please help me. Thanks!
1127040 tn?1289718662 Thanks for your reply.. but would you be kind enough to tell me more that WHEN the symptoms have started (in thoratic aortic aneurysm) are they long lasting until they are treated? or do the symptoms resolve on their own on the passage of time without any medical treatment ? Furthermore can you tell me what is the likelihood of a 25 years old guy (who has no history of smoking) can have thoratic aortic aneurysm ?
Avatar m tn This past Tuesday, I had a mishap with a very hot piece of food that went straight to my throat for a few seconds, and I drank some cold water real fast. What's strange is that there was hardly any pain then nor until now, four days later (Saturday), however, my voice has been affected (hoarseness). My voice has not come back to normal since, and now I'm starting to get concerned.
567489 tn?1297250714 Hoarseness can be related to MS and several MS mimics and other conditions. Hoarseness can be a less common symptom according to the National MS Society. The name for this is dysphonia. Dysphonia is the term used for changes in voice quality, including hoarseness, breathiness, nasality, poor control of pitch.
Avatar f tn First of off, how big is this nodule? While Manmom makes a valid point, please also remember that many of us have benign nodules as well. If it is under 2,0 cm to about 8mm, then a biopsy is recommended. My biopsy was less painful than a trip to the dentist. They novacane your neck. If it is over 2.0 cm then some docs recommend removal of the nodule. While the solitary nodule has a slightly higher chance of malignancy, this does not mean you have cancer. My mom had a 7.0 cm nodule.
Avatar f tn s edema but i do not smoke meds given had no effect as well. what could be causing my hoarseness of voice please help? my doctor does not know what to do anymore to cure me. thanks.
369861 tn?1306275686 Although this is not 100% effective I am at least now able to get through a most of a meal without choking. I also have permanent hoarseness due to a paralysed vocal cord - no cure for this unfortunately. Hang tough.
Avatar f tn If it is related to being hypo then I would expect you to have other symptoms shown in this listing of typical hypo symptoms. http://endocrine-system.emedtv.com/hypothyroidism/hypothyroidism-symptoms-and-signs.html Have you ever been tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones, which are Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and Total T4). If not, those tests would go a long way in helping diagnose your thyroid status.
Avatar m tn Hoping some folks on here might have an idea or two for me. I'm an actor/singer in NYC - I was finishing the run of a show back in October, and towards the end got a bad upper respiratory infection. I had to muscle through it and finish the run (3 more shows) with the help of steroids and all those wonderful actor secrets. Needless to say, my voice was wiped by the time I got through it. But it got mostly better.
Avatar f tn Huh, that's "interesting" I just got diagnosed about a week ago so some of this is so new, I've been reading about how we shouldn't attribute everything to MS so I wasn't sure about this. I have an appointment next week so I'll mention it too. I'd love to hear what your doctor says too though.
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
