584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
571042 tn?1271447141 Though lately we are back to the every 3 hour feedings no matter how much he eats. He will go longer if I have to sneak in a 4oz formula bottle every once in a while. I got a 6 hour stretch from him last night with only a 4oz bottle of breast milk.
Avatar m tn Yes I agree with psat I think at his age he could see a speech therapist ..he seems like a smart child , so your doctor didnt think much was wrong ,maybe somewhat delayed ?
Avatar m tn There are many kids with low eye contact at this age. Her speech is not too much of a problem at this age. Have you had a hearing test done recently. Does she swim a lot as this can cause ear infections and in turn hearing loss.
Avatar f tn He has not been diagnosed, although they think he has something which is in the spectrum of autism disorder. But does have a speech and language disorder. He ahs the understanding of a 2.5year old! Its very frustrating, he finds it very difficult to understand what im sayin. Its the same for me when i try to understand what he's trying to say. He's slowly getting better since he started school last september.
2098262 tn?1333322736 He also used to stick out his tongue and that stopped. He has been under the care of a doctor and a speech therapist and they never noticed any abnormalities with his mouth. This morning, he had his mouth open and I noticed (NEVER saw it before today) a webbing that went from the tip of his tongue to the floor of his mouth. Is it possible to develop a tongue tie later in childhood or was it always there and has just gotten worse? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Speech problems may include slurring, long pauses between words, nasal speech, tremor in voice etc. You could ask the hospital to send across a speech therapist. This will help improve her speech even while the inflammation is there. Once the relapse is under control, speech therapy will speed up the speech recovery. If she is feeling well enough to write and does not have shakiness or tremors in hand, you both could communicate by writing.
Avatar f tn you have to get him in speech but my son is the same age and he does the same thing he cant say anything he brings me a cup if he wants water and he is alone most of the time i had to stop workin so i can find out what is wrong with him so far they didnt tell me much but they know he needs help.

Avatar n tn I have a 25 month old girl who is significantly delayed in speech. She can say about 5 words but that is about it. She seems to understand some but not all of what we say. She will sometimes point to objects in a book if you ask her to, more likely she will point to something and want you to name it. She doesn't answer yes or no questions.
Avatar f tn I bet that if you go down to 1, maybe 2, languages you will see a lot of improvement. Just to be safe I would also take her to see a speech therapist. I met many parents at the clinic who took their children to see an SLP (speech language pathologist) because the child was confused after being only exposed to 2 languages. It's certainly something to think about.
Avatar n tn If the person has any difficulties swallowing, they will be seen by a speech and language therapist, who can assess the problem and work out a diet that is easy to eat. Some people will need puréed solid food and thickened drinks. A dietician will make sure the diet has all the right nutrients. I recommend that you discuss this with your father's neurologist. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I think your daughter will be talking a lot soon. Just because she is in Speech does not mean that she has autism. My friend's soon did not talk much when he was 2 he had speech for a year and he had a home program. He is four now and talks so much his mom says sometimes he talks too much. Does your daughter watch Baby Einstein? There was a news report that children who were watching it developed speech delays. My son watched it alot and had the speech delay.
676912 tn?1332812551 Receptive and expressive are just as important as articulation and they do speech therapy for it. All three parts of speech is how a child communicates which makes up the specialty of speech. How do you know he has receptive language issues? Who diagnosed this?
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn This really is down to mum and dad to discuss with help from professionals about how they can teach him appropriate language. A Speech and Language Therapist (SALT)should really be involved because they also affects social interaction skills. Does he repeat words/phrases from TV? If he does that is delayed echolalia and a SALT should be made aware of this and should assess his speech as echolalia is a speech disorder. He may rely on TV/film phrases to make up his speech.
Avatar n tn You should also call this doctor and ask for a referral to an OT therapist and speech therapist to schedule these evaluations. You so not want to end up in 6 months waiting another 6 months for these OT and speech specialists to evaluate him. Six months to 12 months is too long in the life of a 3 year old. Early interventions and therapies are key to getting these children up to speed. You do not want to waste time.
Avatar m tn well when it comes to you talking her therapist, you know that the therapist wont tell you much cause of the privacy of therapy sessions. Unless your girlfriend is treatening to kill herself or hurt others, the therapist is not suppose to reveal what they talk about.
Avatar f tn It is all exercises for the mouth. But a speech therapist can help you the best with this. My son had trouble chewing and speech therapists and occupational therapists can help with that as well. So, I can't say for sure what is going on with your son. You've seen a specialist that says possible autism. I'm just a mom on the internet so I don't want to discount that. I'd take any steps that they've recommended.
Avatar m tn t have early intervention under age 3, but at age 3 1/2, she started going to a speech therapist and then continued to get a therapist at elementary school, though she was in a regular classroom for most of the day, just 1 hour a day with the speech therapist who also aided her in reading and writing. She spoke late, and when she did speak everything was pronounced wrong or she'd say the wrong word.
Avatar n tn I did that and my psychiatrist found after her complete evaluation that she has Expressive Speech Delay and motor coordination is not fully developed. So she referred us to a speech therapist and suggested us few exercises. Do you think that this recommendation is Ok for my daughter........... Pls guide..........
11218124 tn?1416289399 He may qualify for the birth to three early intervention program that would provide a speech therapist to assess him and work with him to help speed up the process of his being able to articulate words.
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
7577959 tn?1392179122 This therapist might be instrumental in drawing your husband into therapy by phoning or talking to him. As a therapist, I did this quite frequently.
Avatar f tn Could be. Could also be a speech delay or disorder. I would ask for a referral to a speech language pathologist.
Avatar n tn Their pediatrician referred him to a speech therapist and that was the best thing! He has so improved in the communication department and is one of the most social and friendly 6 year olds I know. It's like he was released from his prison. And as far as the school system suggesting autism, well, I will say that a non professional giving that kind of diagnosis possibility is out of line.
4619045 tn?1361132610 hehe My neuro was supposed to send me to a speech therapist but I never did hear from him after so I guess I will mention it in my next appointment. If anyone figures this one out you will deserve a medal I think!
