Common Questions and Answers about How long is effexor in your system

effexor

Avatar m tn Effexor is fat soluable and stays in your system for a long time in clings to fat and muscle, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, only being honest.
Avatar m tn t make you more anxious. Three days is just not long enough to know what is going on. Let your doc know how you feel. Post/vent whenever you feel like it. We are here 24/7. Your virtual support group.
Avatar f tn Well as said above you are on a starter dose of Effexor. Usually it is increased as your body gets used to it. If you really want to stop taking the Effexor, tell your doctor, and then taper, VERY SLOWLY. I mean SLOWLY. It took me months to withdraw, but I had no withdrawals. If you do it too fast you will get withdrawals, however as you are on a very low dose, it will not take you too long to withdraw. Yes even it you miss one dose of Effexor, you will feel bad.
Avatar n tn If you are experiencing mood swings, changes in your personality, you should contact your doctor right away. Effexor works by affecting chemicals in your brain that control mood among other things. If you are having negative thoughts or feelings, or just not feeling like yourself you should also speak with your doctor right away. There may be a problem with the dosage, or you may need to change to a different medication.
Avatar f tn Is it just me or does this look for all intents and purposes like medication slavery. You have a physical addiction to something that feels awful at some point during the process even if it felt a little better for a moment. Then when you want to get off it the WDs make it almost impossible, but taking them makes the discomfort worse? And how many people actually find this beneficial I wonder, I mean for moe than a year mabey? But you have to keep taking the stuff or feel worse?
Avatar n tn If you are getting brain zaps it is withdrawal, so being panicky to the point of forgetting how to concentrate is natural. Did you taper and discuss what to do with your doc? What is your plan once you have these meds out of your system? I don't know anything about going off these 2 but maybe someone else can help if you provide more info too.
Avatar f tn The above post doesn't appear accurate to me -- Pristiq is not usually prescribed as an adjunct to another antidepressant. It is the newer version of Effexor, is very strong, is a very stimulating antidepressant so isn't usually used if anxiety is the primary problem unless all other meds have failed to work, and can be very difficult to stop taking.
603543 tn?1255294450 When I took Wellbutrin, the effect wore off in 8 hours. Although the drug builds in your system over time, I was told the strongest daily effect was from the pill that I took that day. I needed something that my system could get benefit from all day, so my meds were switched. What I am trying to say is if WB was for me, the wear off would be longer than 8 hours. You need to take it at the same time each day, to fight wear-off.
Avatar n tn i have quit smoking cold turkey in the past after smoking for 7 yrs. but effexor is harder to quit, in my view its like some street drug when it comes to withdrawals, no offense pharma ppl but pharmaceutical companies are playing with our lives. effexor has severe side effects specially on the liver, and if you are a female and ever plan of having babies, its the the drug to take. i've also read that women have a harder time trying to come off effexor for some reason.
603543 tn?1255294450 Its been almost 2 weeks and Imy depression is worse now and I feel sedated and fatigued all day...Is this bad? I know Im suppose to give the meds a chance to work, but how long should I feel like this for before feeling better? This is why Im afraid to try any meds these days, I always get neasty sode effects.......How long should I give it before I should call the dr?
Avatar m tn My doc recently started me on Effexor ive been on it 3 days How long does it take to start feeling the good effect from this med?
Avatar n tn Fish oil might help with the brain zaps. As for how long withdrawal lasts, it depends on the person. So does the taper. If you feel you need to, you can go back on the drug at the last dose at which you didn't have withdrawal and taper more slowly. Effexor is known for tough withdrawals, so what you're feeling isn't at all unusual. I'm not sure what the problem would be taking the klonopin.
Avatar m tn Well, you already know this by experience, but Effexor is one of the most difficult meds out there to stop taking. Because you weren't on it all that long, hopefully you'll be okay, but nobody can tell you how long the window is because it varies much more than you think -- some people have no problems, most have moderate problems, some have long-term problems. Which is why you can still go back on it and taper off slowly if it doesn't stop soon -- that option isn't gone.
532848 tn?1214345168 I had the same effects and came off of effexor XR becuase of it. There lies another problem. Coming off of effexor XR is pretty rough. I have posted on it in the forums. Effexor is one drug that I would really look into before staying on it. I am not a Dr and not telling you what to do but if it were me and I were feeling like you are I would goto my DR. immediately and tell him how it was making me feel.
Avatar f tn ) Do you feel confident that your physician has your best interest at heart? It is alarming that your doctor is prescribing two drugs in the same class. That will always draw a red flag. Think it over, discuss this issue with your doctor. It really sounds to me like you are over-medicated. Also, without knowing what, if any, other medications you are taking, it is difficult to give a definitive answer. Best of luck to you. Feel free to send me an email anytime.
Avatar m tn Have a read of the comments above where there are over 800 experiences of withdrawing from Effexor. I am slowly weaning off. Before I went cold turkey, and was fine after 2 weeks, but had to go on to it again. This time, with my doctor's help, I am withdrawing from 150mg daily over a year, as I am told, the slower the better. Hope you feel better soon. I am told what you are feeling could be withdrawal.
1494436 tn?1288720658 Ths drug is fat soluable so stays in your system along time thats why withdrawals take so long depending how long you were on it, everyone is different. I was on 75 mg's for 2 years and 150 mg's 6 years. Going cold turkey is really hard you feel like your dying palpitations, agitation, nausea, the runs every morning. You just can not function in the morning put then it gets abit better you do your not ill all day symptoms will die down.
Avatar f tn Good luck and stay calm and breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth, it will help your crying and anger to calm. Talk to your Doc ASAP about your blood pressure though.
Avatar m tn s been out of your system for a long time -- it only stays in your system for a matter of hours. Withdrawal is your brain trying to adapt back to working without the artificial changes drugs bring. Some people have no problems, some have big problems, some medium. Nobody can predict how long it will last, but hopefully it will go away sooner than later.
Avatar n tn Do you know roughly how long it takes for the wellbutrin to get in your system and whether or not side effects eventually decrease or go away.
190673 tn?1259203266 You need to do this through the advice of your doctor. Not only is it foolish and will put you through more trouble than it is worth in my opinion, it can be down right dangerous to do this after taking these medications for that long. That is why there are multiple warnings not to just up and quit these types of meds.
Avatar n tn You don't say how long you've been on the Effexor, but you've only been on the Klonopin for two months at the lowest possible dose. You must taper off Klonopin slowly after long term use, which I don't think 2 months at your dose would qualify as. BUT.........since you are apparently under the care of a doctor, I would advise you to contact him/her and let them know how you are feeling. Maybe cutting your Klonopin in half IS too fast for you.
Avatar f tn Or, better even, tell them you are already experiencing withdrawals. Sometimes, it takes a while before this actually happens as the drug stays in your system for a while, usually. Depends on if it's short acting or not. It's good that you have a few xanax left, take half the dose now until you can speak to a doctor or nurse about the situation.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed by a mental health professional (a general doc is not a mental health professional). Your dose of Effexor is getting very high. You are right now on two of the strongest and most difficult of all antidepressants to take and stop taking, paroxetine and effexor, and both target serotonin in ways that is very strong and is why they are so hard to stop taking. You need a different doctor ASAP, in my opinion, and a psychiatrist at that.
Avatar f tn It should take about 6 weeks for the meds to get into your system and for you to start feeling the results. Good luck, i know how frustrating the process of finding the right meds are. But once you find out what works for you, you will be very thankful!
