Common Questions and Answers about How long is an epi pen good for

epipen

Avatar f tn Yes, you definietly should be carrying and epi-pen. You also need to see an allergist and start with some allergy testing ASAP. Needless to say, stay away from all the things you know will cause a reaction.
Avatar f tn Hello Khalidws, Welcome to the Allergies - Food Community. I see you joined Med help recently. You say both you and your brother have allergies to nuts. I think you mentioned that your brother has allergies to peanuts and that both you and your brother have allergies to almonds. Nut allergies are particularly worrisome. If I were you, I would tell your brother not to eat any amount of peanuts or peanut butter. The problem with allergic reactions is that the reactions can and do get worse.
410801 tn?1220119445 I get them bad and ended up in the hospital, I take benadryl the liquid {Dr said that works faster then the tablets.} If I start to get one or two then I start taking the liquid and usually take another dose about 2hrs. from the first dose. I notice its worst right before the time of mo. something linked to the hormones, also get if I have gone into hyperthyroid. If I don't wait too long after the first couple come out I can get control over it if I start the benadryl.
580734 tn?1217937235 Paramedic Jacksonville FL, co worker had a call recently where a patient claimed to have been perscribed an epi pen for anxiety induced sycope. Patient says she is supposed to auto inject when she feels an episode coming. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
Avatar n tn So sorry to be late in responding- how are the bumps doing today? I wouldn't take an epi-pen for that, as long as you are freely breathing and it's just the rash you are seeing. It's very difficult to say for sure if this is an allergic reaction without a doctor being able to look at the issue and have a bit more of your medical history. If you have an epi-pen, I'd imagine you do have a known allergy issue with something?
Avatar n tn I waited about 10 min and the symptoms did not change they stayed the same. So I went to the doctor and he gave me a dose of epi pen and some benedral (mis sp?). I waited and it seems that the symptoms did not change at all. I never had shortness of breath just kinda hard to swallow. Then the doctor came back in and looked in my ear and said that I have a lot of wax in it, and i am talking about A LOT.
Avatar n tn Furthermore, depending on his age - trying to stick an epi pen into someone who is agitated is difficult and possibly dangerous for all (including you) involved. If you can answer some of the questions we asked, perhaps we can suggest alternate methods to help you.

Avatar f tn He has RAD Reactive Airway Disease which is Asthma when an allergen is present. So, it is not officially called Asthma, but we have all the same items at home that an Asthma patient would require. Mostly on an "as needed" basis. And yes, after exposure, we can be on our nebulizer for days! Worst part of this is he goes from zero to sixty (accelerates fast) with his RAD. His attacks have been pretty bad when he gets them. We carry ORAPRED in a tablet now.
Avatar m tn An anaphylactic reaction can kill you. Skip the fried bees. Have the Poodle Gumbo instead. If you do not have an Epi-Pen, ask your doctor for one when you go for your pre-trip recommended immunizations, and keep it with you. Remember, should you need the Epi-Pen, it is only a temporary solution. You will still need to go to a hospital for definitive treatment.
Avatar n tn maybe it will help you too. Take an alka-seltzer to stop an attack. I keep a packet in my purse now along with benedryl and an epi-pen. You ask how and why....I have spent hours reading and researching and learned that many people become sensitive after a toxic exposure. In my case....I repeatedly cleaned up the dog mess in my basement with bleach. I had no idea I was breathing chlorine gas or that it was dangerous. I should have payed more attention in chemistry class!!! Good Luck....
188508 tn?1210548106 They didn't give me an epi-pen. My symptoms are always there. I been eating almonds every day for over 10 years.
Avatar n tn s well being are all hard to understand. My son knows how serious the epi pen is and knows that someone injected has to get to the hospital within 20 minutes. Neither child has historically been a discipline problem and they generally treat each other well as brothers. Struggling to understand if this is an instance where my eight year old is just a concrete thinker and didn't have the abstract reasoning to grasp the consequences of his actions (i.e.
168348 tn?1379357075 Im sorry to hear that but ....happy that everything is ok. My son at the age of two had a near death experience ( they are not sure how he is still here) but anyway when your child is endanger of lossing their life, your not in the state of mind to think "normal". You dont want to hurt them any more than they are already hurting and in a way are worried that "you" might kill them if you do ....do something.
Avatar f tn It certainly beats running around with an epi pen an ingesting all sorts of medicines. (Kinesiology is something allergists don't talk about. Allergy means steady business. Cured patients don't return.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with angioedema about 2 months ago. It started with lip swelling (like someone punched her), and whelps. My pediatrician told me that everytime her lips swelled that she was eating something that she was allergic to. She is such a picky eater that I knew when she ate the same things over and over that this couldn't be it. We took her to an allergy doctor and he did an allergy test. It basically came back normal.
1021174 tn?1251635887 Hi and WELCOME!! What the Dr's usually recommend (especially with nut & insect allergy) is to carry Two Epi Pens with you. Most of the Epi Pen holder kits have an area for two pens along with an inhaler since many are asthmatic, too.
Avatar m tn They did a skin prick test that showed a severe (based on the size of the hive) allergu to pistachios, hazelnuts and almonds and a light allergy to peanuts. I was prescribed an epi pen and was told to stay away from all nuts to be safe...but peanuts should be ok in moderation. I was shocked! I have eaten peanut butter and nuttella my entire life, I've had almonds and pistachio is my favorite ice cream flavor. Needles to say I went to get a second opinion.
Avatar f tn O. We have very VERY few decent Drs over here (it seems), It was just primary care i went to, and he didn't refer me apart from the blood test.....watch this space :).
Avatar n tn I would think the benefit of the epi-pen by stopping airway constriction would outweigh the risks of the epi-pen causing problems from the PVC's. I am certainly no medical expert and just happened upon your post and thought I would chime in, but I would definitely see my dr. ASAP to get this all straightened out..you could even call a pharmacist on the weekend and get in touch with your doctor's nurse if it's too difficult to get in right away...
Avatar f tn Depending on the type of reaction you have, an Epi-Pen may be necesary. This is required if you experience any kind of respiratory system symptom including sweeling tongue, swelling throat, and shortness of breath as these are life threatening. It is always best to strictly avoice food allergens. Carefully read ingredient lists. Many people with food allergens also need to avoid eating at restraunts or at least certain types of restraunts God bless.
230262 tn?1316645934 See if he need some steroids, and also if he will need an epi pen for future use in case his reaction gets systemic next time or if he gets stung in the throat/mouth/airway region. Man, this suckks! no one on either side of the family is allergic to bees, so i thought he would be OK too, especially since about 2 summers ago he got stung by a whole nest of yellow jackets and he had no reaction.
