333672 tn?1273792789 Super_sally888 or anybody, I was interested in the discussion on a gluten-free diet on another thread and wonder how long would it take to tell if a gluten-free diet is having any effect on MS symptoms. I was in a situation a couple years ago where I ate a gluten- and dairy-free diet for five weeks (someone else was cooking) and it didn't seem to have any effect on my symptoms. Would that have been long enough to tell?
Avatar n tn He told me according to his tests I had celiac disease. I had been gluten free for a while ( I will have to check my records to see how long) when I had a colonoscopy. The GI doctor said that I didn't have celiac. I still do the gf diet as I feel better on it. I am also doing Great Taste No Pain program Sherry Bresia. That is helping me also. I am still having pain and some gas. The GI doctor said I had severe gastritis and to take a prilosec 2 times a day. I don't do that.
Avatar f tn I cook pretty healthy, eat lots of fruit and veggies, rarely eat red meat, etc My chiropractor has suggested that I try a raw and gluten free diet to see if it might help. Has anyone had any success with a major diet change?
Avatar f tn It's not going to hurt to try the diet, if that's what you want to do. If you do, I'd break it into two parts. First research and eliminate the Casien. It only takes about 72 hours for that to flush out of the system so you should know one way or another with that within a week. Then, if it doesn't make an appreciable difference but you still want to try the Gluten free diet, you can try that but still allow your child any milk products they like.
Avatar f tn I am now thinking about learning some Makaton to help to reinforce some words and for him to learn how to sign at times of stress/anxiety when he is unable to speak. There are alot of special schools in the UK that use the GF/CF diet because they notice differences. They tend to focus on behaviour differences and improvements on the diet. Do you/your family have a history of food intolerances/allergies etc.
Avatar f tn I follow a gluten free diet. I have celiac disease. So far it hasn't been easy. I used to pretty much live on tuna fish and lunch meat and now I can't have either. I'm afraid I won't get the nutrients my baby and myself need but I am trying. Luckily many grocery stores around me carry gluten free foods and there is a strict gluten free/dairy free/vegan bakery close by if I get a sweet tooth.
Avatar f tn Is it possible/ recommended to do a gluten free diet crossed with a calorie controlled diet? I was thinking of cutting carbs also but if I have to have them they have to be gluten free? Is that recommended ? Or is there any other way to do it?
Avatar n tn t have health insurance at this time... consider putting your daughter on a gluten free diet for at LEAST 2 weeks. The diet must be 100% gluten free or it will not work. If this does not work, consider trying an alternative homeopathic formula for parasites. Best of luck and if you can... keep me posted.
1337734 tn?1336234591 Terry Wahls clains to have put her MS to sleep using diet. The keys to her specific diet are typically available for sale on her web site. THis always makes me leary. Our bodies are at war, albeit with themselves. The stronger we can make our bodies, the more able they will be to fight the fight. THis includes a well balanced diet.
Avatar f tn Most people who try this are not disciplined enough to stick with it for 6 months or more, or try it for a couple weeks and feel no benefit and quit. When in fact that was simply not long enough to draw any conclusions. ALL of this is all anecdotal. So take it for what it is worth.
374593 tn?1257879950 Has anyone modified their diet for endo - for fertility or symptoms? and if so what did you do and how did it work? I've heard caffine, alcohol and wheat are big no no's along with soy and any meats that may have hormones in them, just curious to anyone elses experiences! THANKS!
Avatar f tn NOTE from GroupTrack 5/5/11: In conjunction with the Thyroid Disorders Community, and any other interested members or Communities, let's see if going gluten-free can, in fact, help us lose weight and feel better. Some members have chosen to go Gluten & Glucose free. Others prefer just Gluten Free. This group is open to everyone - not just thyroid patients. (* Please check with your physician.
268911 tn?1213744781 he told me that all of the trees and grasses had my allergies going and the food just pushed it over the edge. after being on a gluten free diet for a year and 5 years of allergy shots to lessen the severity of my allergies, i can eat whatever i want and only take zyrtec during the spring and summer when my allergies are the worst (but they don't get very bad now, after i had the shots).
139792 tn?1498585650 Imagine a life in which your favorite comfort foods, such as pasta, bread, cereal and cookies, could cause you to become violently ill. This is reality for an estimated 3 million Americans who have been diagnosed with celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that involves a severe reaction to foods containing gluten. Growing awareness of the condition, combined with consumer demand, has brought an increasing number of gluten-free products to store shelves in recent years.
Avatar n tn When he moved schools to start grade one we saw some significant regression, after one pretty bad weekend we decided again to try the diet, this time he was completely gluten and casein free for six months. This time we did not notice any big changes in him and as he settled into school things got better.
Avatar f tn s and have been on a gluten free diet for many years. While I honestly can not say it made any difference to my thyroid condition, it certainly helped in other ways. It does seem that many with Hashi's will have an intolerance to wheat/gluten product. More than likely due to the antibodies produced from the Hashimoto's. I think the body gets a little confused and thinks it needs to attack pretty much everything! Being on a gluten free diet is actually a sensible thing.
Avatar m tn t go carb free long term, as it is bad on the kidneys. You do need to eat carbs. But, you need to eat gluten free carbs. There are other types of carbs that are not grain based carbs. Again, going completely carb free needs to only be SHORT TERM. Once you kill the Candidas, you can add a little bit of carb in your diet again.
Avatar f tn I was recently told by someone that works with fibromyalgia patients that a gluten free diet could lessen my symptoms. Just trying to figure out what has or not has gluten has been confusing and a bit discouraging. But I am willing to try it if it works. Has anyone tried it? What were your results?
1369218 tn?1282423884 The diet I did was a candida, lactose, gluten free diet for 4 days. It is the hardest thing I have ever done. I am trying to eliminate foods that might be causing stomach issues. Like I sadi before though, I have never had this before the last month. Overall, I eat pretty good and avoid gluten. I already have an autoimmune disorder, so who knows maybe it could be another one. I will ask for further testing on Friday...Thanks!
Avatar f tn Many people with Lyme follow a gluten free, dairy free and sugar free diet. I follow a sugar free diet because sugar bothers me, it gives me a headache. I eat dairy and some gluten because it doesn't have an affect.
280418 tn?1306325910 I have read a lot of very strict dietary suggestions for Lyme patients. I think Dr. B's popular guidelines also include gluten-free. I never did it. (Perhaps I should hedge myself and say "not yet?") In response to yeast, I at times greatly reduced (but never quite eliminated) all sugar and carbs. (No fruit, no white foods, no sweets, but still some brown rice and whole grains.) But when my yeast cleared up, I eased the restrictions.
Avatar f tn I was on gluten-free diet for 10 months last year thinking I was gluten intolerance. When I got my allergy tests, I was not allergic to any food so I have started to eat everything. I am allergic to dust mites and cats and dogs. Unfortunately, I have 4 cats so I have to deal with certain skin problems and runny noses and sneezes but other than that I am mostly okay. I did have some back/neck problems so I see a chiropractor time to time.
Avatar f tn To start the healing In addition to the gluten free diet I also took on a high alkalize (low acidic) diet and stopped the PPI's to start the healing process. It worked! It became intermittent instead of constant. When I changed thyroid meds, reflux disappeared (cross my fingers). Before this I ate pizza once per week. Now its about three times a year. My diet is boring, but I feel better.
Avatar m tn He did a blood test again neg for celiac but again low iron. I have been trying to do gluten free but i think i keep get glutened some how. I almost dont feel any better and its been 2 months. I think it may be time for another colonscopy but I am in nursing school and can not do one until july. I sometimes wonder if maybe it is chrons i have. Any input would be greatly appricated!
Avatar m tn Even your vitamins have to be gluten free. Give the diet a few months and see if you get any improvement. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats. Research the diet thoroughly before starting it. Make sure you have all the food you need on hand to substitute for the missing foods, otherwise you'll cheat on the diet. The diet seems so hard at the beginning, but when you get used to what you can eat, it gets much easier.
